If walkons count toward your total number of allowable players, we can’t have walkons anymore if we are a serious basketball program. End of story.
Which is why I think they are trying to say if you were a walkon last season you don’t count, but if you are a walkon this season for the first time you do.

We will see if that is how it shakes out.

They’ve always counted in the new settlement going forward. U get 15 no matter the breakdown of ships vs no ships.

The theory is there will still be walkons. Because 15 for hoops is enough and teams want to pay for just 12 or 13 so they can spread the available $ around more efficiently to less guys. Plus any new scholarship $ beyond the old 13 counts toward your rev share $ as I understand it. Up to a certain amount can’t recall the threshold reported.

I suggested once on here that it might be better for a UR to go with 15 actual ships. That way we have a team of 15 best players possible & gives Moon a better chance because he needs all the help possible. Larger margin of error. Numbers game. And because I think UR might be more amenable to “paying” out in more ships vs. actual pay to play.

That suggestion was poo poo’d on here but I think has at least some merit. Tho I didn’t see us replacing Kirby Mooney for a ship player. he’s safe as long as he wants it.

you never end up playing 13 guys, much less 15. so the last few guys might as well be walkons. why spend the money if that money can be distributed to better players in your top 10?
Agree, and if you try to have 15 scholarship guys all thinking they deserve minutes, that could lead to chemistry issues. Even when we were at 13, teams always had end of the bench, non rotation guys. Like you said, might as well make those walk ons who will have a team first attitude and work hard for the team everyday in practice.

I do get that strategy. But what I mentioned above. Maybe u get a guy who is a walk on at a p5 but is good enough to play here & decides he wants a full scholarship. It’s like classifications in hs. It doesn’t always mean those teams r better but they have better chance to be because they r pulling from a larger pool of candidates.

I like walkons - Moon didn’t even realize last year 1 of them should have been a full time player had he been on scholarship maybe he would have played much earlier. I’m not anticipating this happening either just a consideration. If UR tells me we r going full tilt in paying high rev share $ it’s probably a different answer. But skeptical of that & this year portal seems to confirm.

why do you think we'd get a guy who could beat out our guards or wings, but we couldn't get a big who could compete for time with Walz or Beagle? are they that unbeatable? and why are you comparing some stud wing we could get vs a Kwesi type post player?

again, my 3rd big doesn't have to be a true center only. a 4/5 combo guy is ideal. a guy who can play both spots. heck, AP is our only 4 right now unless you include Beagle and excluding the unknown freshmen. what the heck did AP do to be locked into 40 mpg?

with 15 guys on the roster it's irrational to me to want a 7th wing or 7th guard and carry only 2 bigs.
S-man. I see your point. Both of our centers are seniors (not that this means much), so it would be nice to have a younger big man to build for when they graduate. Also would be helpful as you note, if one of our big gets injured.

Problem as 4700 states is that the big man market in the portal is not great to begin with and we are basically trying to sell our spot while already have 2 senior big men on the rosters.

I do like the kid from Indiana State though, who could play 4/5 for us. That type of player could potentially kill 2 problems with one stone, shoring up both our lack of quality forwards and back-up minutes at the 5. If I'm Mooney, that is the type of player I am looking for, vs. a traditional center.

Any of these guys could be yours for a mere 2 to 3 million.

Funny how absolutely no discussion of Spider NIL collectives anymore. I am thinking our esteemed Jabba, PQ, 80's fan and minions decided it was more sensible to save that money, instead of come with pea shooters (tens or hundreds of K's) vs the big boys bazookas (1-4 million). Hearing BYU just bought another guard for $2.5 million. They are going to have quite the budget.

I read it was $3.5
that's so crazy. Gilyard would be worth $5M per year today.

as for Stevenson, the "do not contact" transfers are the absolute dirtiest. whereever he goes, they were blatantly contacting him while he was still on another team.

and yes, I'll delete this instantly if it's us! :D

Anna's brother in the portal. This guy can legit shoot it. And I know we like to get tall shooters in the portal, whatever else deficiencies may be. IMO clear upgrade over AP or Dusan. Very decisive on offense, but may have some of same deficiencies on D.

Guessing he may want to get back to p5 and p5 money if available to him.

Well, you and others ran the one guy who would give us some good NIL updates off the board with your constant attacks and criticism. 80s fan probably thought it was more sensible to just stop posting and be done with all the crap he was getting. I liked his updates and miss hearing some inside info.

It was always so special to get the holy words of Queally and his NIL bros and their infinite wisdom of all things college basketball, filtered through the condescending vessel that was UR80's. They used all of the guidance to help their lord and savior, the moonman, secure some dynamic players last year and that led to a thrilling 8 win season. I can't wait to see what this leadership does next year. Maybe he will share some of this wisdom with the proletariat class of Spider basketball fans.

Just please UR80's, use single syllables, because most of us are too ignorant and stupid to understand the big complex world of college basketball, when you give us your insider looks into the brain trust that runs our program.

I know good ol 4700 troll said its my fault (haha) , i drove off those condenscending prickleberries. But I was looking up somenthing and saw some posts whereas 80's was saying how moon and the NIL bros knocked it out of the ballpark bringin in AP and Dusan. Where I saw the drop and stop from posting was once everyone got a look (not us poor posters) but the 80s elites at the scrimmages. Crickets and understandbly so following giving up 78% FG in a preseason scrimmage. I think it was the realization that instead of knocking it out of the ballpark, there guys got picked off 1st base with the hidden ball trick drove those guys away, not big bad ol 23 :). Are there even emails for NIL or any discussion around it this offseason? Or is that not sensible?
