I think it was Yogi who said when you get to the fork in the road take it...seems like the Spiders may be at that fork...sitting at 2-3 after five games will we take the path of the ill fated 2018 squad which finished 4-7, or the 2021 Spiders who finished 6-5?

so far we've shown no signs of turning the corner towards playing better football...last Saturday's game against Hampton was reminiscent of 2018's game five, a demoralizing 63-10 loss to JMU...2021's game five was in the midst of a skid which grew to five losses in a row before we won our last four...

it won't be easy against the Black Bears...Coach Huesman challenged the offense and defense this week...he called Maine the best 1-4 team in the country and repeated several times that our only chance to win was to rush the ball effectively on offense and stop the Bears rushing game on the defensive side...this will take a complete turnaround from our effort versus Hampton...

I read we are the favorite...if you've watched the same UR games I have this season, that's baffling!

I enjoy The Spider Gang's pregame fellowship and camaraderie as much as anybody, but it sure is better, if the team has a chance to win...maybe the turnaround starts this week, but I've been saying that for a while!

enjoy the relaxing Prologue...

Go Spiders!

Thank God huesman is a defensive specialist.
Apparently we don't study film of our opponents.

177 yards in five plays. Their QB and a WR both currently have passer ratings over 500.

Russ is the biggest scam artist on the east coast. Meanwhile, we have to eat it. We don’t want this scum coaching our kids. Do the right thing and resign.

Come on, Doc. We can conduct an objective and critical analysis of the program without calling Coach "scum" and a "scam artist".

I'd really like some new program leadership but those are some pretty nasty and unnecessary terms.

And why should he resign? The school was dumb enough to extend his contract. It's not his fault they did.

Regardless of today's outcome we have our quarterback going forward. Unless RH decides to go with more "experience".

I love the tricks, what a concept! Who knew these things are even in Russ's playbook.

The UR record for TD passes in a game is six, by Lauletta in a 68–21 win over Howard.

Five has been done half a dozen previous times, most recently Udinski in the 51–7 shellacking of Stony Brook.

Can't help but remembering losing to Maine at home after leading 20-6 going in to the 4th quarter, only to lose. We scored going up 20-6, but Maine blocked the extra point and ran it back for 2 points. We lost by 1.

So we win. Nice job.
I was a nice win. Freshman QB ties the school record for TD passes in a game at 6, and nine different players catching a pass, one of who tied the school record with 3 TDs in same game.
Defense did give up some pass yards with 2 CB having to play the whole game but held their offense to 11 yards rushing with DL back at pretty much full strength.

Gets quite in here when the Spiders win, though.

Didn't get to see any of this one (FloSports will do that), but definitely an exciting outcome that no one could have predicted. Run the table while scoring 30+ points a game with a new QB and we have an outside shot at a bid, I suppose.

Coleman played a really good game and definitely looks like he’s “the guy”. I’m sure there will be some struggles but we need to be a no excuses mode.

I was particularly impressed that we fought back and made in-game improvements.

If Coleman continues to consistently play like he did today, better get him an NIL deal.
P5 have no conscience about cheery picking with their VP of Poaching.

This kid can not only throw but is mobile with quickness and speed.

Yes poise would be first thought that comes to mind with CC. The OL with 2 redshirt frosh playing
tackle did well protecting him but still are not a great run blocking unit. Hate we have to throw so much
on short yardage. Maine had some offensive talent at the skill positions and their starting QB is
the real deal. When he got injured, it made a huge difference.

I agree with you but you have to admit that we are work in progress and the guys are growing by leaps and bounds. Just be passion. The growing pains can be rough but I can see light at the end of the tunnel.#Go Spiders!

GC we were only lacking in QB experience starting the year, which was not a work in progress. Our lines were promoted as deep and experienced on both sides of the ball. We had injuries on the OL, QB and DB which then became a youth movement. I bleed blue and red and do not lack for passion, there are just some things that was discussed by Huesman and staff that have not come to fruition, especially the running attack. The only thing that has lived up to its billing is the punting game.

Gavin Lamp was back on OL at tackle spot yesterday so only one freshman playing now. We have to run the ball better. Interesting that Webb got quite a number of snaps at RB yesterday. I like how he hits holes quickly. Tight ends were prominently utilized in passing game with lots of other receivers catching passes. Biggest concern at this point are defensive backs as we are really thin there. Graves did not dress yesterday and was set to start. Lots of competition at the safety position at this point but still got torched for several big pass plays by Maine. Wickersham looks close to being ready so the next couple weeks should be interesting to see where this offense goes regarding personnel and philosophy. We cant forget he was #1 on depth chart for a reason and his completion rate was over 75% when he got hurt. He also can help the run package especially in short yardage situations. Competition is always good but now it’s up to the coaches to use all the weapons on offense to win games. Coleman is smooth as silk with a big arm and lots of moxie. Hopefully this team is waking up and knows the pieces are in place to win if everyone does their job and the coaches put them in good situations with offensive and defensive schemes. The season has been extremely disappointing to this point but this team didn’t quit at Stony Brook or yesterday when down 14-0 so I’m going to keep believing we can still finish strong.

Great analysis, but why would you consider relegating a guy to the bench who has just tied the school record for touchdown passes in a single game?

So how many games can a freshman play and still have the same number of years of eligibility left?

It will be interesting to see how Coleman’s redshirt plays out; after yesterday’s record performance it’s going to be tough to sit him down at Rhode Island if we are serious about winning the game;

if he plays at Rhody it would be game three;

another consideration is the Transfer Portal world we live in now; if Cam is the real deal it’s possible he’ll graduate in four seasons and then Portal up in the 5th year if redshirted; if you’re good enough in the Portal era and playing in FCS playing sooner rather later could be best; glad I don’t have to decide!

Go Spiders!
