Might be a bit early on this but it's a highly critical class with 4 slots to fill.

Im sure there will be at least a couple front court players in our 2106 class, but based on some things I've read and heard, Nick Sherod, a 6-3 SG from Saint Chris appears to be one of our primary targets. I may try to swing over to a game or two of his this winter.

I agree that this is a critical class, will be replacing ANO, Terry Allen, Trey Davis and Deion. A lot of size and athleticism heading out the door. If no turnover or redshirts, they would be joining this roster:

PG: ShawnDre (SR) , Khwan Fore (JR)
CG: Kadeem Smithen (JR)
SG: Josh Jones (SR) , Julius Johnson (Soph)
Wing Forwards: Diekvoss (JR),
Forward: Marshall Wood (SR)
Forward/Center: TJ Cline (SR), Friendshuh (JR)

That's a pretty well balance roster, so yes I think we will be looking for a couple of forward / center types and especially best available. It is nice that 2015 is done, and seemingly could have more recruiting focus on the 2016 guys.

FYI its Julius Johnson, not Jones, don't want to offend the young man before he arrives!

If you look on Scout.com we're listed with offers to Curtis Jones, Sacha Killeya-Jones, De'Monte Buckingham, Clevon Brown, Tracy Burnett and Evan Wiley.

Add to that Sherod, Jeremy Carter Sheppard, Sam Hauser, Kodye Pugh (no offer) & Darryl Gerald (no offer) over from 247sports.com.

Rivals adds Alpha Diallo (no offer), Breein Tyree, Robert Baker, Alex Moore (no offer), Stafford Trueheart, Jermaine Matthews (no offer), Tyler Scanlon (no offer) & Kenny Bunton (no offer).

I know we have offered 3 local players, one of whom is Sherrod. I'm not sure who the other 2 are but maybe someone who follows it more closely can figure it out.

^^Jeremy Carter Sheperd, a PG from John Marshall is one. I believe Damonte Buckingham of Henrico is the other, although i sort of doubt we're going to be a big player in that recruitment.

I feel both of the next 2 four man classes are critical towards approaching a "reload" vs "rebuild" mentality.

Since I can't find any info about Nick's parents, I assume his father didn't play college ball in the city? Otherwise, I would think we would have different competition for his recruitment.

In my opinion we can land those guys, but we need to make the NCAA tournament this year in order to help our chances.

As for Sherod, he is drawing interest from Ohio State, Indiana and UVA. Don't like our chances with him. Hopefully I'm wrong

Nicks dad played at ODU and his grandfather played at VCU. His grandfather and father both have worked on the mens or womens basketball staffs at VCU. Both were treated badly by VCU. Nick is a big time shooter and would be a perfect fit for UR.

Richmond was up here at FUMA the other day. My best guess is that they were looking at PGs just in case Julius decommits. They might have been looking at some 2016 guys though.

Julius decommits? why even say that?!
you always have to keep looking and recruiting. you'd be negligent if you didn't. if anyone transfers, you'd have to fill the spot.

It could happen. You have to be prepared if that does in fact happen. I hope it doesnt.

Also we have a senior this year who is practicing with the Post Grad team right now. All I know is he is a 7 foot center and can play. Can't wait to see him play this season. Based on what I've heard he is going to play on the PG team next year. So maybe that's why we were here.

It's like an extra year of high school for guys who either need to meet academic requirements to play in the NCAA or guys want more exposure. The guys on the team are hand picked every year. Tavarius Shine last year who we offered was on the Post Grad team.

Some people have said that Friendshuh should not redshirt. Look at Spider23's post above with the 2016 roster. Then think about the 2017 and 2018 rosters if Friendshuh does not redshirt this year.

Greg Williams has offers from a lot of good football schools. USC; Auburn, etc. ESPN 4 star and 20ths SG in claas. Rivals 3 star.

According to several recruiting guys, Daquan Bracey, a PG from Baltimore, visiTed today.

Is that a hint that he felt like the school fit like a "T"?

It is good to hear that we are getting some outstanding guys in to visit. The RC and our campus are truly strong recruiting "draws" for us now, so getting the guys to see us, first-hand, is key. Once they see our campus, and meet our players, I do believe we will have a great shot to be their future team (and family). We seem to be on a "roll" right now, and a very good season this year will certainly help our chances in landing some highly rated players. If anyone hears how the guys liked their visits, or has U-tube video links on the guys to share, I would love to take a closer look at the guys we are bringing in.

Article in the RTD about Mooney's recruiting.

This part below about sums it up.

Through that stretch, recruiting analysts seldom have held Richmond signees in high esteem.

"Couldn't care less," Mooney said.

He goes after versatile players who fit his
offensive system, a spread arrangement that prioritizes shooting,
ballhandling and passing, regardless of height. In the switching,
matchup defense Mooney has used almost exclusively, the ability of all
Spiders to defend multiple positions also is valued.

"We recruit the guys we feel are good basketball players, not to oversimplify it," Mooney said.

The most important consideration, according to Mooney, is signing "guys who are equipped to graduate from Richmond."

Spiders hoops handles business without elite...

[/I]Don't exactly agree with this article.

Lets be honest, we havent been too successful since the Sweet 16 year. JJ had offers from big time schools. If JJ was able to play on an AAU team I think he would have landed somewhere else.

Last thing, who is disappointed with Johnson committing?? Crazy he put that in there. Hopefully JJ doesnt see that

I think the bottom line of the article is that U of R isn't going to hold non-existent African American History courses, giving out
grades for non-existent classes.

could have been worded clearer, but he isn't saying anyone is disappointed we got Julius.
he's saying some fans judge a recruit by who's offering them ... which has been said on here many times.
Mooney's point is he doesn't care who's recruiting them. we find the right players.
he understands that we're not going to win recruiting wars often against the highest majors, while many posters here still want to wage those battles. we find good players who are under-recruited for ANY reason. in Kendall's case, his size. in Julius' case, becasue he doesn't play AAU.

Just reviewed some Julius Johnson videos; no doubt he is the real deal. Cannot wait for him to put on a Spider uniform next year!

Forget Duke signee Grayson Allen, Julius has #1 dunk; in your face! Really like Julius getting to his feet after dunk with a bit of attitude. Also, note feed by Julius to Bradley Christian on #4 dunk.

Julius #1 dunk

From 247sports can add two names: Jay Huff (no offer) and Javin Montgomery-DeLaurier (offer)

Not sure I like this idea, but he still has time to shrink 3 inches and then he'd be perfect for us.
