I don’t see anyone posting billboards regarding Huesman? Where are you boys and girls?
I remember how upset when they started forcing Frank Jones out- oh yea - that was a million
years ago.

don't take the bait, don't make that stupid mistake again

You don't need a billboard if you attend the games. The empty seats and apathy speak for themselves. I actually had JMU fans, for the first time ever, express feeling sorry for me and other spider fans on Saturday. Glad we have that sparkling PQ Athletic Center and new Jumbotron (that already has developed a "hole" in the pixelation...at least it's probably still under warranty). As an alum and former player I've given up on our Athletic Department. I still go to the games as a means to catch up with dear friends but we are nothing more than a minor league baseball game or other entertainment option...we aren't trying to win championships.

Seems like our product on the field is affecting the billboard. We can't even move the football let allow score. The billboard was brand new and was the latest and best. Then the billboard saw how we couldn't adapt. Making very little change to the offense. Everyone saw we weren't committed to winning anymore. Why support or donate to a losing program? Cause we feel sorry for them? Seeing zero changes with coaching staff or athletic department continue promoting the future is bright. We can always find new alumni! The issue is you can't keep people happy when you constantly find excuses. Own up to your losing. And get some new people that actually care about winning. Clearly, no one shows any resolve to fix the situation. Baseball, football and soon to be basketball will be in free fall. Big dreams sold for empty seats.

Are you referring to the new scoreboard? Are you referring to buying space on a billboard off campus? Or are you referring to something even more high tech, when you said "the billboard saw how we couldn't adapt." To err is human, but to confuse is sublime.

Re empty seats. I know it has been a problem for several years but this season can easily be explained by the pandemic. I know many people of all ages who are not yet ready to be in a (potentially) crowded environment yet, even outside.

This is fair but it doesn't explain the full stadiums we are seeing all over the country.

True, but based on family, friends, anecdotal reports from friends with family in other states and regions, etc. it seems to me that people in the Richmond area have generally been more "cautious" than residents of other states or other parts of Virginia. Given our traditional fan base (red sweater types and young families) we might be more affected than other schools.

I don’t think we can blame Covid for this death at all. The Robin’s Center will be packed with those same people on November 9th.

Robins Center won't be packed. Tickets will be sold but those people won't show up.

Looking for excuses why we don’t have any fans in the stands is a waste of time.
We’re a losing program, we’re not out in the community encouraging fan support, our marketing sucks,
and when you get to a game you don’t feel any excitement of tailgating, and student participation.

Yes they will
November 9th we are playing Towson. Dont see anyone gets excited about that? Yes its homecoming but students and people in general will lose interest. Basically our events are just social events at this point. Or just something to do. Who wants to watch this anymore? The season is basically over after today. Sitting at 0-4 in the conference picked to be in the top half of the conference. Commited 6 turnovers today had to be a record.

How does Hardt survive this? Robins Stadium is basically Ghost Town Stadium at this point.

Post #13 says Center not Stadium. That would be NC Central. I don’t think we play Towson on Tuesday 11/9.

I didn't realize we were talking about basketball. Playing NC Central I still don't see how we have a sellout for basketball.

I think he is saying, we can’t blame small football crowds on the pandemic, if large basketball crowds show up.

The school (and athletic department) lives in their own world operate within a bubble. If they didn't they would certainly have more self awareness of how the program/school is viewed outside of campus. Most the students at school there have no concept of all the things to do around the city and its by design the way the school operates. There is a disconnect between the school and the community.

I think this is a foundationally inaccurate statement. UR makes significant efforts to connect students to the local community. Tons of internships and co-op cases to be found plus they have things like the Endeavor program which are in part designed to get first year students socialized including introduced to activities off campus.

We will never be VCU where location has that university woven into the fabric of the city, we are physically ensconced which isn’t materially changeable. But if you are a student interested in exploring Richmond or engaging in the things it has to offer, there are plenty of opportunities to do that.

For example, here in Annapolis, the Naval Academy’s Memorial Stadium is used for occasional
high school games. Has there ever been a metropolitan high school game played at Robins
Stadium? I don’t think so.
Mr T, having things off of the campus just keeps the void between the community and the school.
It helps, but not like inviting them to your home.

The comment was that students have no idea what’s going on outside the UR “bubble”. That’s just not accurate.

If you want to talk about engaging more of Richmond to come TO the “bubble” then have at it. That’s not what the original supposition was to which I responded.

I think we’re talking about to different groups of students.
My comment on post #16 was that we’re not out in the community to get fan support. I was talking about
local fan support of non- UR students.
Yes, we send out our students for different community/charitable endeavors. But my point, and you said it correctly,
was we need to encourage more of Richmond to come to the “bubble“, as you call it.
As far as D-1 football, we’re the only game in town.

In the saddest of sad articles…URI mentioned here. Yes…URI as a one of the better CAA teams. Richmond left in the dark.

Here’s the exact reference
“…Currently there are three CAA programs ranked in the FCS top 25 that aren’t James Madison. Delaware, Villanova (who upset the Dukes earlier this season) and Rhode Island all currently seem poised to take the torch if necessary…”

Delaware and Rhode Island will be out of the Top 25 beginning tomorrow.William and Mary will likely make the Top 25.Only CAA reps in playoffs will be JMU and Nova.

Apathy rules the day. Don't think billboard would accomplish anything. Don't think enough people care about our football program to be motivated to put up a billboard. Mediocrity is so entrenched that its continuation is expected and sadly accepted.

Virginia Union, Division II, is currently 4 and 4, and although in a smaller venue, has as much enthusiasm, if not more, at its football games than we do,

Debating going to the VUU-VSU game instead of watching us struggle against Delaware for the exact reason you mentioned. I hear Hovey field is quite the atmosphere for that game.

You would enjoy it. Richmond marathon course goes down the street by Hovey Field and on several occasions a game was going on as I plodded by. The enthusiasm was so contagious it gave me motivation!

Ironically, probably the last time that our fanbase got somewhat fired up was the basketball billboard. That issue has been litigated enough on this board but at least it showed some passion on both sides of the aisle.

Fair enough (programs are offered/ somewhat encouraged) I should of just mention too many students fail to take advantage of those offers from my time working on campus with the students (5+ years ago). Many are shocked to find the city has electricity and running water the way they describe first time encounters with it.
