W&M vs. Tribe in game

Its hard to prep for the possibility that your QB and best player gets knocked out, but it looks like there was no preparation for that scenario. If KL's out for good, this season is over. What a terrible year for injuries.

Can't blame the defense, they've been on the field the whole game.

Go back to Richmond. Pack up football equipment and start prep for 2017 and the opener on Aug, 31st 2017 against Sammy State.

Well our season long second string QB is mysteriously gone.

34 points scored by W&M. Most of the season except for Norfolk State. Anderson with over 200 yards.
No excuse.

At least now it's over. Everything that can go wrong has. Losing 11 starters too much to overcome in 1-AA football.

Never seen the defense play so poorly against the run. Terrible game plan. Ignored Anderson's ability.

Completely disagree. When KL went down we were cooked. No offense. No Broadus. We made some dumb mistakes. Our D
never got any rest because our O folded with Clise and then Chenault at QB.Neither sub showed anything. No ability to get to our receivers.Deontez was our only offense.Pressure on D constantly in 2nd half.Rubin ejection didn't help either.

Rough Day, the Tribe was not going to have us tie the Series. Next man up.

When Schor of JMU went down at Villanova, they replaced him with a freshman. The teams were tied 7-7 at the time.
We were up over W&M 10-6 when Kyle went out. We led 13-6 going into halftime. JMU's defense rose to the occasion and kept Villanova from scoring the rest of the game. JMU scored 2 field goals after Schor went out, both the result of interceptions in or near the red zone, and a TD with about 2 minutes to play also set up by the defense giving them great field position. If their defense got more rest than ours did today, it was negligible.

Schor's freshman replacement played poorly as well. He was 5 for 12 (43 yards) and he had 2 interceptions. Our replacement QBs were 1 for 5 with 1 interception.

Villanova is a much better football team than W&M. JMU's defense rose to the occasion against Villanova. Ours did not against W&M. The reason our defense failed to perform may be debatable, but the lack of rest and Rubin's ejection may have contributed, but were not the main reason. We were unable to stop Anderson all day. Blame it on what you will, but they just looked confused to me. Anderson ran for over 200 yards and Cluley had receivers open all day.
IMO, our defense lacked a quality plan and played without inspiration.

Lauletta was the the only thing holding the smoke and mirrors together. When he went down it was over. Get him and the running backs healed up for next year.

No smoke and mirrors. With Kyle, we are a contender even with the injuries. It sucks he is done for the year.

We started the game with a turnover. Then had a turnover at the beginning of the second half. Both led to scores. Can't blame Clise's interception on him though. Perfectly thrown pass that was juggled by some guy, picked off and run back to about the 10. We were up 13-6 at the time.

Kids didn't give up but the coaches did. I don't care where you are on the field, you don't punt the ball late in the game when you're down two scores. Unless you're giving up.

Also strange that we didn't call any timeouts from that point on, either. We had two left. Not sure of the message there, but honestly I sort of took it as a middle finger from Rocco to the administration over the Broaddus thing. As in, well, I don't have my second-string QB and this is what you've left me with, so F it. We're done.

Are you saying it wasn't a coach's decision?

Even if it was Keith Gill wouldn't have noticed, there were some good jokes being told on the sidelines.

We didn't occupy a lot of time with long drives after Lauletta went out. But the depleted defense has struggled over the last 3 games.

Our d-line has been decimated by injuries...many of the season ending variety. At our level you aren't going to have the depth to overcome a bunch of guys going out at one position group. We just couldn't set the edge on defense on Saturday against the Tribe's running game. The defense is playing hard but they are just beat up and undermanned at this point. Losing a team leader and all conference guy like Jones on the back end hasn't helped either over the last few weeks.

Hopefully Garrett will come up with a creative game plan for Saturday...we are going to need a strong running game with Thompson and some wrinkles (jet sweeps, etc) to help supplement our lack of passing ability. It's going to be a struggle but I hope we put our best foot forward on the final home game of the year.

Ha, well, I won't judge Gill on how he acts during a game. I'm not sure we want an AD who is going to act like a passionate fan all the time, either. That probably would be a bad look. I don't have enough first-hand knowledge of his tenure to comment intelligently on how he's doing.

Not trying to be obtuse. Broadus's disciplinary case was adjudicated in his favor over a year ago, and he served two suspensions last season.

So either

1) There's been a new violation of team rules (which doesn't seem right, they'd just announce that and be done).
2) The administration caved, more than a full year later, to pressure from [redacted].

Must disagree. AD should, and must, be passionate about UR sports. Gill is just collecting a check and hoping to move on. Pray his hope is realized

Door #2 - no new violations assuming there were any to begin with.

Broadus graduated last May.He majored in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in business.Academically,a smart kid.I wish him well
in his postgraduate endeavors.Hopefully,he'll be contributing back to the school as a happy and involved alumnus.

All the other conjecture is nonsense.

Yes, I wish him well. I will keep an eye on him. I'd hire him, though he's probably not interested in a job at my firm.

I doubt he's very happy with the school right now.

Not to start another conversation, but I feel the best leaders are those who keep their cool at all times and can internalize their true emotions. Gill may be a phenomenal AD or he may be the worst one in Division I – I have no idea. But I can't judge the man's work based on the fact that he was laughing for a few seconds during our game.

In my section, there were a lot of UR fans, most of whom hated the way things went down Saturday and who were miserable afterwards. But each of us laughed at various points of the game, too. Does that mean we aren't true fans? Just food for thought.

While I agree you cannot judge the man's work based on a few seconds during a game, I believe that is symbolic of his overall tenure at UR. It is my opinion that one of the main jobs of the AD is to stand up for athletics as a whole (players, coaches, programs, etc.) and be their "voice" to the administration. When the AD sits back and allows the academic administration to dictate athletic issues, there is a problem. The AD should be putting his fist down on certain matters and standing up for athletes. I'm afraid our current AD "sits on the sidelines" far too often.

Well said, United. Feel Gill wants to be unnoticed for future possibilities without rep of controversial.

All of this may be true, or maybe not. Like I said, I have had very limited interactions with the man. I agree that at face value sometimes, I have wondered why certain things were happening, too. But who knows what's going on behind the scenes. Maybe he is arguing like hell to get kids in and he's getting stonewalled by Admissions. If either of you knows this to be false, I'd love to hear details.

At the same time, I'm not sure what we would expect of any AD. No one in that role is going to win regular battles with his or her bosses in the university administration or Admissions. If it were just as easy as saying to those folks "Hey – do stuff differently, dammit, or else!" I'm sure we'd all be happier as fans. But obviously it's not.

I've been critical of Gill's seemingly blind loyalty to Mooney – a coach he didn't even hire – but there again, I have no idea whether he actually loves or hates Mooney. It may be that he wants to fire him but has no way out from the contract Miller left him, for example.

I agree 100% with this. He does not support coaches or student-athletes. And no you can't fight or win every battle but you pick them and fight the important ones. You just don't leave your coaches on an island.

I don't know KG so in no position to judge his work. Interestingly, he was National FCS AD of the Year for 2014-15. Is this just a beauty contest?
