Keyes, four Rams suspended by CAA

VCU baseball coach Paul Keyes and four players were tagged with CAA suspensions in the aftermath of a bench-clearing melee and a series of lesser in­cidents in Sunday’s game between VCU and Hofstra.

Hofstra coach John Russo and three of his players also were suspended.

Keyes was ejected in the seventh inning for argu­ing with an umpire. He will not participate in today’s game against Richmond.

Rams senior Kyle Pelchy and junior Blake Hauser

received four-game suspensions. VCU junior Brent Mikionis was suspended for three games. Junior Ryan Farrar will miss one game.

The VCU suspensions will be served today and during VCU’s three-game series against UNCW on Friday-Sunday

Ole Brent has been a passionate baseball player from the time his mom had him picking up trash at his older brother's games at Huguenot LL before he was old enough to play. Nice fellow and family. He's their starting first baseman and a solid baseball hitter.

i cannot recall having seen or heard of a college baseball brawl. guess it has happened but just don't remember reading about it. maybe like in BALL FOUR, the guys are just asking about how the statistics class is going or how things are on campus.

cheap state school, don't worry about classes. with so few baseball scholies, easier to take many kids, even vmi has a ton. our biggest prob, gettting it affordable with partial scholies, tough job.

From postgame interviews, sounds like we're starting to get injured pitchers back in rotation. Even if it's just the one back for this game, it's a start. Our record would be a lot better if we had a full pitching lineup and bullpen. No doubt we can put the runs across. Just got to keep opponent from doing the same, particularly in upcoming conf play.
