Here is a great write up on the game by Noah. The Commodore's Aaron Nesmith, who scored 34 points (7-12 3FG) in last year's game, was taken by the Boston Celtics with the 14th overall pick in the NBA draft. Saben Lee, with 24 points and eight assists against U of R, left school a year early as a second round pick by the Detroit Pistons. That's 57 points from last year not returning. They are also short handed because of Covid. I agree with Noah, If we win our next 2 games and Sunday, if there is another game, we should be back in the AP top 25.

Young team, but they have some dangerous players. Could be closer than people are expecting.

Again, if we "learned" anything from the whipping that West Virginia put us on this weekend, the lessons will be seen today, playing against a depleted, young, and COVID impacted Vanderbilt squad.

If we are a Top 25 team, as many of us claim we are, this is the type of game we steamroll an opponent and win by about 20.

Agree 97. Great win and effort vs Kentucky without shooting well. Shooting struggles continue and we have not really put together a 40 minute effort since, not really even a 32 minute effort. Would like to see Gilyard and Francis start making some threes, get Connor some minutes, Burton keep it up. Hoping we don't come out flat, and chucking bricks. Early game again.

Steamrolling would be nice. Steamrolling being rare even when we are good is frustrating.

But I'm ok with close games if we are consistent.
Winning by 6 to 8 points at Gonzaga and at home vs Mississippi Valley I can get used to...

I'll just take the win, but I do hope we look good getting it. Vandy played 4 ranked teams last year and lost three of them by 4, 9 and 14 points, and won one by 9. Let's just play a good all around game, make some 3s, get out of there with a win, and get ready for Friday.

Does anyone know how to get on TV. Does you have to pay for the whole SEC season or can you just pay for one game?

Your best bet might be to sign up for a free trial with one of the many TV carriers who carries the SEC network.

Yes, I realize we don't "steamroll" many opponents and this is a BCS opponent (albeit one of the worst BCS programs out there right now). But I don't think it is too unreasonable to see us play with an edge and play crisply for 40 minutes (this means Mooney calling timeouts if he sees us getting in rut and individual players not trying to hot dog some stuff out there if we get a little play room). If we do this, I think we keep Vandy at arms length most of the game.

Hot dogging was part of our problem at WVU. They were so enamored with the thought of ESPN highlight reels, that they made too many errant passes. Golden had 6 turnovers, several times he threw it right to the WVU player. I would prefer that Blake drive to the basket and get lay-ups or look for the pass. If he does that, his game will come to him. He needs to be patient.

I just want to see the team come out and play well. Seems like we haven’t seen the same type of smooth offense yet this year as we saw last year. I think we are missing Sherod and the whole team is adjusting, but we need to finish OOC strong and be ready to play better in our A10 games

Feels like Blake, Grant, and Gilyard (to an extent) have been pressing a bit to start the season. If they can loosen up and play like they did last year, we will be good to go

I don't think anyone was hot dogging out there. A lot of our turnovers were more of the sloppy, lazy, unforced ones than any hoping for highlight reel ones. We just need to stay sharp and focused. No lazy passes, no lazy cuts, and no standing around on offense. I agree that we can do this by not forcing things and by letting the game come to us, while still attacking and being aggressive when it's there.

I think the best thing today would be for Jacob, Blake, and Crabtree to make multiple 3s. Jacob and Blake because they need to get rolling and need their confidence back. Crabtree because it is important to have him healthy and be a 3 point threat out there. If we can get those 3 to give us close to what Jacob, Blake, and Nick gave us from outside last year, we will be more than fine. Tyler hitting 3s is great as well, and he is showing he can make them, so that would just make us that much better if the other 3 guys can be threats out there.

I thought you were kidding until I read the rest.
I strongly disagree. I didn't see any hot dogging. we were outplayed. nothing more.
We were outplayed but Gilly tried to nutmeg a guy on a one handed pass to Cayo, I believe, when he could have just thrown an easy entrance pass over the defender. Gilly had another full court pass he attempted early on which missed its mark early on, where both he and the man he was trying to pass it to were in a full sprint. Gilly does at least 3-4 "hotdog" plays a game. Occasionally, these end up on his own personal highlight reel, more often than not though they don't.

I love Gilly and his style of play but he does hotdog pretty regularly.

Let’s see a game with single digit turnovers.

Hoping we build a decent lead so we can get more bench play in this game as well. I don’t see much chance of extended bench play versus Loyola-Chicago.

97, maybe you're watching more closely than I am. I've never thought of him as a hot dogger. I didn't see a nutmeg attempt. behind the back or between the legs dribbling isn't hot dogging. it's effective change of hands. his fancy layups are his way of finishing at 5'8" without getting blocked. I just don't see a hot dog.

I agree, we need to get a nicely polished and thoroughly won game under our belts this season before conference play starts. It will be here before you know it

No his dribbling and finishing is fine. He does hot dog on passes at time though. Sometimes they are great and are on our highlights, he had at least two in the first half at WVU, that were ill advised and resulted in turnovers.

I don't consider him a hot dogger either but sometimes he takes tries to make highlight reel passes when a more deliberate or easy option is in front of him.

Announcers are going to run through all of their game note factoids by the under 8 timeout.

Francis is an enigma. Had some wide open, easy looks earlier and missed them all (except the layups). Then on back to back possessions, he takes a deep 3 and a fade away 3 and nails them both. Hope he can get it going

Francis got off the plane shooting. However, he just hit 2 3s in a row. Uh, oh.

Nice to see Crabtree getting some run. Had that bad entry pass for a turnover, but gotta get him some experience. Can see Gilly trying to get him involved.

We seem to do better when we shot 71% from the field...

I dislike in game prognostications, but it appears the lesson from the WVU loss is currently being given to Vandy.
