Umass Game: Wed 1/10 Morning Game

UMass hopefully will be a little less of a challenge, but let's not take the foot off the gas!

UMass was very good last year, but their coach left for Pitt after the season. Graduated a bunch and quite a few others left even though they promoted from within, so they only have a handful of holdovers from last year's squad.

Exactly. Hopefully, this is mostly a glorified practice.

I'm a WBB season ticket holder and got this email from the athletic department a couple of days ago:

Next Wednesday's basketball game against the Minutewomen of UMass at 11:00am will serve as Education Day. We are going to have more than 1,200 students (kindergarten to 8th grade) in attendance and we are designating sections for them in the Robins Center to ensure that each school is staying together.

While we understand seating is general admission, this will be the only game that we assign seats, but we didn't forget about you! As a season ticket holder, we wanted to make sure you had some of the best seats in the house! So for this game, we ask that you please sit in the risers and courtside seats located in sections 16-18. Please reference this image to see the season ticket holder area highlighted in yellow.

We would also like to note that it may get very loud in the arena. Should you have any further questions about this event, please do not hesitate to contact us at athleticsmarketing@richmond.edu.

It will definitely get loud with the high pitch squeals. As mentioned, we've done this for some men's games in the RC. I went to the A10 Women's Tourny last year in Delaware. They did the same thing there as well.

Yeah, pretty common in the women's game due partly to the much lower demand for tickets most places. Spiders played one of these games at Elon last season, think they played one at GW the year before too.

Well Done!

"...it may get very loud in the arena." 🤣

Who's going to a basketball game expecting total silence??

It's a different kind of loud. It's a bunch of voices that haven't changed yet, and way too much energy to let out. I can't make it because of work, but if you go, consider earplugs.

Forgot that we also played one of these games already this season, at Gardner–Webb. They had over 2K in attendance for their education day game where the Spiders rolled to victory.

So the team should be ready for the experience, although the kids should be cheering for the right team this time.

Edit: The season opener at Duke was also an education day!

If the Spiders could cut down on the bad turnovers, they'd be running away with this. Still, starting to build a lead.

UMass now matching the Spiders in turnovers, but not a great end to the half for UR other than forcing a shot clock violation. Spiders only up 6 when it easily could have been double digits.

I haven't watched but a couple of women's games. Seems like fairly sloppy play from the Spiders. Lots of traveling calls. Is that usually the case? We appear to be clearly the better team if we just clean it up a bit.

Spiders have a history of travels and turnovers in general. It's been improving over the course of Roussell's tenure, but sloppiness still rears its head once in a while. I guarantee it's a point of emphasis for him in the locker room right now.

Uh, can we roll things back to halftime and get a mulligan?

why is there an ad for vcu in a game bt Richmond and UMass?

Still way too many turnovers, but nice to get a bit of separation finishing out the third.

Richmond turnovers are keeping UMass in the game. Can't distance ourselves.

There we go, that's what I'm talking about. Taking care of the ball this quarter, good passes for layups, and Ullstrom bombing from outside.

Couple of huge games for the Spiders coming up next against URI and Davidson.

Spiders slipped three spots to 53 in the NET.

Couple of big moves in the neighborhood after Mason absolutely destroyed Davidson yesterday. Patriots snuck ahead of us by moving from 68 to 52, while the Wildcats fell behind us in going from 45 to 59.
