Tyler turns 23 w/Grant attending - aka Loyola Chicago Game Thread

Thank God for Tyler Burton, he overcomes Grace’s turnovers and Mooney’s ineptitude to beat a very poor bottom of the barrel A-10 team.

Now I can go watch a YouTube video on fixing messy landscapes to slowly lower my heart rate.

We sure didn’t miss anything by not getting Golden Jr for 5 years.

Look at it this way, this win saved us from a 20 loss season. We will finish 13-19

Was hoping moon would put dji back in at the end for Randolph. He did, and good things happened. Couple games in a row now clutch play by Dji down the stretch.

Now I did see his man back off 5 feet at one time, but like Goose we need to work on that.

Maybe Goos and Dji will both be aggressive in Brooklyn.
Dji made two big free throws and a steal down the stretch.

Too many TOs but clutch foul shooting going 16-19 iced the game. IMO Spiders had to work too hard late to get the W when they appeared in control most the game.
My thoughts exactly.

In a home game against the worst team in the league where we shoot 54% and 84% from the line, and win the rebounding battle, it should not come down to the last possession. Grace played well toward the end but was way too careless with the ball earlier in the game.

Good to see Roche and Goose in double figures, stepping up the scoring with Grace struggling and Bigelow out. I also thought Dji played one of his best games as a Spider, very active on D and a little more assertive on O. And a couple real good assists from Walz, loved seeing him get a longer, uninterrupted stretch of playing time.

All in all though good to get a win and see different guys stepping up. Hopefully we get good news on these injuries in the coming days.

I did not think the refs had a particularly strong game.

Liked the more aggressive Goose. He isn't a great ballhandler against pressure, but I do think he is a good straight-line driver to the rim. I'd like to see him keep doing that--it brings a different dimension.

Liked Roche actually dribbling and cutting himself to open shots. Thought he got back to rushing threes later in the game. I liked the 1st half Roche better. But, will also allow that maybe it's because this was by far his longest stretch of consecutive minutes so he may have fatigued a little.

Liked last 10 minutes of Grace, disliked the first 30. Hit a couple big shots and free throws to help keep us on top down the stretch, and had a big, big offensive rebound follow.

Burton was good--the main recipient of bad reffing as well. But the whining about calls is starting to approach Golden levels. Don't like that part.

I thought Nelson played well enough in the first half to get more minutes in the second half (in place of Randolph for me), but he seems to have switched places with Dji. I think Dji has earned his time, but I would much prefer to see both have the opportunity to play through it.

Quinn was looking strong today--stinks he got hurt.

A good win for the Spiders albeit a game that was closer than it should have been. The ability to not get a field goal in almost 7 minutes will do that to a game though. The good news is that the free throw shooting recently has been outstanding (~80% last 3 games) and making a needed difference of course.

Going to go all positive on the highlights:

Quinn dunked the ball with authority on his “bunnies” this game. I missed his injury and hope he can return soon.

Walz got into the game bc of Quinn’s misfortune and did an admirable job especially since he has gotten no time of late.

Bailey continued with strong D and made his 3 point shot (redemption).

Goose was aggressive on offense especially in the first half.

Roche came unglued from the 3 pt line and showed his midrange game.

Burton was Burton and hit his late FTs

Hope the positive pieces can continue and the Spiders can muster up a win versus an improving Lasalle team.

Go Spiders!

Another game in which we gave up a lot more threes than the opponent was averaging (10 of 26, compared with 7 of 21). Just really frustrating and a reason these games are way closer than they should be, or losses.

Walz hitting cutters was the closest thing we’ve seen to our traditional Princeton offense that we’ve seen in awhile. Nice to see he has that passing ability - kid was screening hard too. Great effort coming in to a game he had no idea he was going to have to play in.

I enjoyed being at the game yesterday. Very productive offensive effort especially with 2 of our guys out.

I agree wit EL on us giving up numbers on opposing teams’ 3 pointers beyond those teams’ norms. I’d have to look at season stats, but the eye test of recent games (example - GW and Loy Chi) portend a pattern that isn’t good. I know 2 games don’t make a trend, but I believe there have been more than a few other games that were similar.

Thought that was Goose’s best game in a long time. Seemed to be looking to score more, we need more of that.
Absolutely…now if we can get Roche & Dji to make that same jump, which I thought Roche looked more aggressive yesterday as well and Dji took a few baby steps forward in that regard too. Was it me or was that most back door cuts we’ve hit in a while or at least this season?

I noticed that on the back door cuts too - a staple of our game. I believe Walz had two really nice passes on 2 of them.
