Transfer Portal

make ssense. while I personally would love to be a coach with both Wheeler and Reid figuring out how to play them together, there is overlap there that could be problematic in today's game.
plus it's the ACC and I bet there's more nil money for Reid there.

So how many players are on Wake’s upcoming roster that are taller than Grace? 6?

Who knows, could go the route of the Bama baseball coach.

Forbes actually off to a great start at Wake. Just read an article about how good he is at developing guards. Probably more likely he moves on, but Wake is nit a bad spot imo.

Only 16-62 from 3 his 3 years at BC, but a lot of positives with Langford:

Good size at 6'5 and athletic.

Looks like he gets after it on defense. Good instincts and can get steals and use his speed and athleticism to turn the steals into layups or dunks.

Has a real good 2 point game. Good finisher at the rim, can post up guys and shoot over them, and also has some Nick Sherod type fadeway jumpers in his game.

Has proved he can get it done against top competition, with 30 career double digit scoring games at BC.

He seems like one of those "decent" ACC players who could be really really good at our non P6 level. I think he would be a perfect fit on the floor together with King and Roche. Let's get this guy!!!!

it's the same process in every program. we do a great job when we get a player on campus. always have.
UVA doesn't land every prospect they go after. nobody does.

Interesting potential transfer in Langford. Looks like has played 3 seasons at BC. So two left with covid year?

If he is a really good defensive player, I like this. And if Boyden is able to continue his efforts to emphasize that side of the ball. Big, strong guard - listed at 220 but from highlights pretty quick and athletic. Interesting 4700 - I know you put some justification - but usually you would not be happy at all to go after such a low 3PT guy? I agree that it does look like he brings some other benefits.

Not really a playmaker per his stats either. That is one reason I liked Brown, great A/TO ratio and number of assists. King, while PG sized, seems more like a scorer.

Langford did have some really good games this past season - so there is a lot to like about him. Especially if we can continue to emphasize D. It gives us another guy that would seem to have the potential to be a real contributor on that side.

Well, we actually don't do a great job. We have had a number of guys visit and then leave and go somewhere else. Seems like CM could probably learn a thing or two from Bennett and how UVA handles their business.

I mean he has a Natty to his credit.
Yep, I'm not a UVA fan in general - but the guy came in and won the ACC , what 3, 4 years in a row with K having top 10 HS recruits. He came in and ran the league.

Agree, on the portal work. Im sure Mooney rolls out some type of semi red color carpet. But obviously with Brown, we did not do enough. Instead we have .500 players clamping him down, probably did not feel the love. Oh well.

Agree with Brooklyn that Langford may provide some similarities to Dji, but very solid, heavy minutes guy with production in the ACC.

Yes he does, thanks in a big, big way to an obvious but uncalled double-dribble.

He's a good coach, who has turned Virginia into a just-below-elite program. He's also had an inordinate number of head-scratching losses in big games, especially in the NCAA tournament, with this year's gag job against the Paladins being the most recent example.

I can't stand UVA but you have to respect what Bennett has done to that program. UVA was a listless middling program before he arrives and then boom, Top 10 team nearly ever year, multiple ACC titles, National Championship. Very impressive.

Our ceiling will never be has high as UVA's is, playing in the ACC, but Bennett does show you what a top flight coach can do to change the trajectory of a program. Maybe one day, it will happen here.

Great article about how Bennett and his entire staff woo potential transfers. How real programs get it done.

I follow UVA a lot, but I am not a huge fan of their transfers this year. I don't think they make them a lot better., and they seem like BC or GT type gets instead of a top ACC program who recently won a national title.

And, I think Bennett made a huge mistake redshirting Traudt last year, and now he is at Creighton. With all these bad tournament losses, I think Bennett, as good as he is, better start adjusting to the times, and stop redshirting guys, and taking so long to get talented freshman in the rotation.

On last year's team, I would be more concerned with his 3 point shooting, but I think King and Roche could make it much better to have a guy like Langford out there. Nelson, Goose, Langford......no. King, Roche, Langford....yes.

???? Roche, Bigs, Quinn, and King in the past 2 springs and this spring is not done yet. Bennett has his title, but maybe since that title in 2019, he could learn a thing or two from Mooney and other coaches on how to win a tourney game, since he has 2 terrible 1st round losses and an NIT the past 3 chances.

It is still super annoying that we don't seem to be involved with any impact transfers or recruits at the moment with so many spots open. Meanwhile, after losing out on Reid, our city rival is battling with another A10 foe for this guy:

We can't make the case that we don't have needs. If not this guy, someone else. It is really depressing to see the effort and activity level that Odom has brought to VCU, while seem to be muddling along after the King commit.

Since losing Miller, UR athletics has been small potatoes. No vision or desire to be anything other than a school with nice facilities memorializing some out of touch, @$$hole billionaire telling the rank and file to "temper their expectations" from his ivory tower.

I am curious is that the same League that Solly Stansbury played in And averaged about half the stats?

Is anyone surprised? Of course not. Get ready to read Hardt's next email gushing about both lax teams making the NCAAs (which should be celebrated) and ignoring all things basketball.

Thompson was on my radar because we expressed interest at one point, but then seemingly never offered.

one is hungry, looking to prove himself and move up

the other is fat, content, and comfortable

We're down to 12 uncommitted transfers that we're known to have expressed interest in. Of those 12, Langford is the only confirmed visit we know about, and obviously our hottest lead. If we can land Langford and bring TB back, I think that's a solid B/B+ transfer window.

There is no other known progress with any of the names below, but hopefully some stuff is happening behind the scenes. This is just me speculating, but I'd guess we're pushing for Hensley/O'Connell/Pal over the others.

Temple just picked up Georgetown transfer Jordan Riley. Not a big scorer or good shooter, but I choose to be optimistic and hope it helps our chances of getting Langford. They're also after Settle and he's coming for a visit on Wednesday. He's a forward, so not in direct competition, but I don't know how many slots Temple has left overall.

Hensley is a very intriguing player. I have not seen or heard about visits, etc since he entered the portal. Anyone find anything on him? MD - not sure I would be as optimistic on the grading factor specific to transfers. Burton is his own entity. And if he does not come back, it would seem his decision may have impacted our ability or willingness to go after forward transfers.

If we were to land Langford and either PayPal or Hensley, I would say a very solid portal work for Mooney.

sman - my sources say we locked down Langford, and Langford locked down our guards. So much so that on one run, after about 8 minutes neither team had scored.

Yeah - fair point on seperating TB from the portal activity. For me, I think it's acceptable to bring in only 2 impact transfers if TB does come back. If he doesn't, then we absolutely need 3 IMO, which is why I was grouping those two things together.

Wait, I thought Burton mentioned at graduation that Langford held him scoreless for 40 minutes one on one?

Surprised. Not in the least. This is more an expectation than a surprise. The reasons are evident. Nothing changes if nothing changes, and we don’t change.
