This week's Fire Mooney Thread

Even a blind man can see that we would have beat Saint Bonaventure if Wood played more minutes and started.

Even though we let the other team score 51 points, we still should have focused more on offense and less on defense. If we score over 100 points a game we would still win!

I agree, should have stared Moran at the point too, the way he came in and ignited the team.

2012: Finished 10th in A10, lost at La Salle in first round of A10
2013: Finished 8th in A10, lost to Charlotte in first round of A10 (in fairness, we had that one won before it all went to pieces)
2014: Finished 7th in A10, beat Duquesne in second round, blown out by VCU in quarters
2015: Finished 4th in A10, upset by VCU in quarters

So since 2012, we've finished on average around 7th in the league, and have gone 1-4 in A10 tournament play.

Bottom line: I (and I'm sure Mooney) miss KA and Harp and Gonzo and Geriot and Smitty

So you are saying we are going to finish better than 4th this year?

Second half was 51- 29. Enough blame for that embarrassment to go around to everybody. Very depressing and difficult to have any enthusiasm for the rest of the regular season.
MEDIOCRE.

Got that right, there is crap in everybody's bed after a meltdown like that.

Yes... no, wait, no. No. I wish we were but I don't see it happening.

I think my point was that we've been an average team in the post-KA days but this loss (and season) is bumming me out. It's a lot harder to make coherent arguments after each additional loss

We are impressively consistent at least. We stink on defense nightly, we haven't rebounded any better than awful for the entire Mooney era and we consistently do the same thing offensively and defensively without regard to results, matchups, our talent etc.). We know what we are going to get every night - - its just that some nights we hit shots and some nights we don't. Problem is, you need to hit a LOT (and I do mean a LOT!) of shots to make up for being a bad defensive, bad rebounding, badly coached team each and every night!

I can't imagine anyone would be banging down the door of the Robins Center asking Mooney for an interview at this point, even if we turn it around somehow.

I don't think Gill is equipped to handle a fan revolt if a large amount of STHs don't renew (for the record, I'm not giving up mine). I think he likes the status quo.

The incoming freshman class looks promising. Can't see it improving, and possibly get blown up if Mooney gets canned.

Add all that up, and it looks like Mooney is here to stay good or bad.

I don't know how much of a difference it would have made in the way it looks with the disparity in their scoring in each half but the Bonnies missed a ton of layups in the first half and made a few more in the second half.
I don't know if Terry Allen is wearing down physically but he has played almost no defense in the last several games. As for Taylor and Davis, at least the announcers like them so they must be good. And they did combine for a big four points today so...............
No excuses for Wood he just didn't, what's the expression? "feel it" today. He is an incredibly inconsistent player but scoring big in half or a third of his games seems more of a contribution than no points at all or under five for most of the games. Have at it, stat man!
Oh, stat man, you need a big sarcasm symbol. I don't think most people interpreted your post about Wood starting correctly.
Nice to see Cline finally hit some threes. He has been in a long slump for a guy who is usually a pretty good outside shooter. Great first half for Kwan and overall good game for him.

Where do we sit in ken Pom? Will we hang a banner this year?

Can we switch the #unitedinred to #catchthemediocrity on social media?

I like Mooney, but in a non-rebuilding year, a decently coached team should be able to play credible defense, attack a zone, shoot free throws, and, at least when necessary, rebound. If we didn't have the semi-lifetime contract to take into account, would a coach with Mooney's increasingly lengthy NCAA tournament drought be in danger of dismissal at the end the season?

I'm waiting for the rose-colored glasses crew to tell us how great our kids are, what a wonderful representative of the University CM is, and how much better we'll be next year. We need to lock this thread now before our recruits de-commit and all of our freshman transfer out.

The words you speak:). Wait...don't burst the bubble of the pom pom crew. Coach is doing an outstanding and predictable job. Wouldn't expect any more nor any less. Anyone for one line drive-bys?

We have nice kids, and there must have been travel issues, right Spideroldie?

Just no leadership on the floor to tell the guys what to do and settle them down during an opposing run. I saw the 3 seniors looking to Fore to make things happen. TJ should be the undisputed team captain this year and next.

This is a nice little circular firing squad we got going here. Only a ram troll could get us out of this masochistic punishment we are putting on ourselves, so thank you Spiders Unite.

And what's really frustrating about CM is that VCU's brand new coach is not only likely to win coach of the year in the A10, but he's even being mentioned as a national coach of the year:

Damn it, why is VCU sooooooo much better than us?
You know SU, as frustrated as I am with Mooney and the basketball program right now, I wouldn't trade Mooney for two of that little Willie Wonka twerp you call a coach. And your showing up here is becoming as predictable as the annual clap breakout on the VDU campus. Take a penicillin and go away.

FecesU says we have No Shake, but they have one-eyed Willy. A major league wanker.

Then you prefer mediocrity to success. I like the latter. I just wish spider nation could get it together so we could finally have the best team in Richmond.
Actually I like conversing with my own kind and a show of some humility and sportsmanship. Our time will come around again and if you haven't croaked from some really bad thing please come back and acknowledge. In the meantime you are the better team and I will enjoy your annual year end disappointment.

When you use the ignore feature, you don't even know the person posted

Don't worry, the A10 will make sure your boys win the tourney in Brooklyn this year and make us a 4/5 bid league! Don't worry, things will turn around, it's all good.

Have never been a CM fan but believe most of the problem is in recruiting. He chases, and sadly catches talent that, for the most part, never plays meaningful minutes. Do not know if this is due to lack of coaching once players arrive or misjudging of talent. Next year CM must develop at least 8 who can play substantial minutes and contribute. No more 2 on the floor that allow opponents to double down on 2 UR scoring threats, must have multiple offenses and defenses to make playing UR more difficult to prepare for. IF talent is as advertised next year, it would be the time for a new approach to all phases of game and some new assistants. Have no hope of change but good to dream, again, of "next year".
