The Andrew White?!?

While I don't really harbor any ill will toward Andrew, but I will certainly not root for him and will probably root for others over him (which I guess is rooting against him).

His complete lack of regard for others from Day one is really off-putting to me. His behaviors when being initially recruited and stringing people along etc. were the first glimpse of the "all about me" attitude that oozes from the White camp. But the deal with Nebraska sealed the deal for me (and I don't even like Nebraska - - I always root for the Sooners to kill 'em). Zero respect for Coaches who invested in him and teammates who lined up with him and zero appreciation for the fact that Nebraska and the staff there resurrected his career etc. It's pretty clear he doesn't think he owes anybody anything for any reason, but that the world seems to owe him a basketball career.

And its not just that he left - - it's how he left and conducted himself as he left and then followed that up with the usual recruiting song and dance again. Its all about Andrew for the Whites and while they have a "right" to be that way, thousands of other D1 athletes (including many better at their sports than Andrew) manage to conduct themselves with a whole lot more class. So I have an equal "right" to root for others I find more deserving to, for example, get spots in the NBA at Andrew's expense. And so I will!

And I'll add this to my reasons for finding him disingenuous. He said he needed to leave Nebraska to better prepare for the NBA. Well, the NBA evaluators told him they were concerned about his quickness to play guard in the NBA and specially about his defense and ability to defend NBA players. So Andrew needs to leave Nebraska to better prepare and showcase himself for the NBA and he chooses to go to Syracuse - - a team whose signature is playing a great 2-3 zone. How exactly will that either help or showcase his defense for NBA scouts???

Who is RVA Game Break? Apparently Sports Illustrated cited them for breaking the AW story. Is that Fat Boy over at VCU running a blog in his in-laws basement? Sweet Baby Jesus!

Bringing the tweet that started this thread full circle...

http://www.syracuse.com/orangebaske...asketball_over_55_schools_rio_phone_call.html

White's list of schools was now down to Syracuse and VCU, located in White's hometown of Richmond. There was speculation that a third school might be involved when a photo of White and his younger brother shooting in the University of Richmond's gym appeared on a blog page and on Twitter.

"That picture was taken three months before I even knew I was leaving Nebraska," White said. "That picture was from March or April. That's what I was dealing with in the middle of making a decision."

While Richmond wasn't part of White's process, VCU was.

Anyway, this whole thing has been terrific. That article only made me dislike him more, and I am glad that he had to "deal with things" during the process. When all is said and done, I ask, "What kind of person are you to screw over Nebraska basketball so late in the game? Who does that?"

After reading that article, he's pretty self-absorbed--especially when it came to that Michigan State quote. Good job parenting dad. He'll struggle really hard with being a borderline D-League/Europe player because you trained him to think he's far more than he is. The next 15 years will be difficult for you Whites. *I realize it's really hard not to come off self-absorbed when you are being interviewed about you and your experiences/thought process but... jeezh the ego is strong on this one. Get a grip kid and my apologies to all the spider fans who realized this months and years ago. Shouldn't have defended him.

Also, funny he rationalizes not making a decision and thus giving up chances at MSU and Miami (actually making decisions) because he was making such a difficult decision and he needed more time. So he's dumb too. Sounds like the Whites picked between the two schools whose calendars afforded him the most time to vacillate for the umpteenth time in his college career to the very last second. If we just delayed the start of the fall semester until December we would have been the only one left.

Not that it would matter definitely a little Richmond directed bitterness in that article too.

Why are we talking about this instead of posting video from our 2pm practice session?

since we weren't involved this time around (in reality as a program, or emotionally invested as a fan) it's easy to step back as see this for what it was.

I don't think he's a bad kid. we used to say he just loved being courted. I don't think that's it at all. he can't make a decision. the level of indecisiveness is almost staggering. and it's been consistent throughout his earliest recruitment. he still didn't really choose a school this time around. he just wore coaches out until they didn't want to be bothered anymore. they had other options. I guess Boehiem didn't have anyone grab the spot, so he had no choice but remain patient.

I get it. these decisions are hard. but life lesson, Andrew ... make decisions. don't go through life putting off making choices until the choices go away.

I have no ill will toward the kid at all. He's free to live his life, make choices, not make choices, etc., however he chooses to do so. Ultimately, the choices he makes literally have zero bearing on any of us. As far as I'm concerned, he made a great choice by opting not to attend VCU, and I wish him all the best at SU.

when did 1st practice start in September??? I thought Midnight Madness was always on 10/15.

Yeah, I guess my take is that if the coaches and players don't have any venom, then it's pretty petty for the rest of us to feel jilted or used or whatever else. I also don't think that either AW or his dad is coming from a mean-spirited place: he has a goal to play in the NBA and his dad is deeply involved in trying to help his son get there. I'm fine with that, even if I disagree with the methods they choose.
