St. Joe's (Early) In Game Thread

The timeout that Mooney called when the lead was cut to 13 might be the best of his career. Perhaps there's something to not saving them for the next game. (Sarcasm)

Well that was just what the doctor ordered. Now we just need to go on the road and beat Rhody. That would buy Mooney a full week without any billboard conversations. :)

1-0 in the A-10. One game at a time...

I will be their for URI. Rhody lost to Brown tonight. Not sure if that helps or hurts us. Definitely a huge game, as there will be a 4 team scrum for for 2nd place.
Hurts unless it totally shook their confidence.

I counted three times in the final 10 minutes or so of the game when a St. Joe’s player went up for a layup and missed everything while in the process directing the ball farther away from the basket than it was when he started his jump. Never seen anything like that before.

This St. Joes team is one of the worst non-Fordham A10 teams I’ve witnessed.

meanwhile, Fresh is starting for Louisville, Jared Bynum is at Providence, two recruits left, including the son of one of the biggest stars in STJ history. This is a minimum 3-4 year turnaround for STJ. I wonder if the new AD will be around to see it happen. I'm not the biggest martelli fan, but when the players have the power, you better make sure of what you're doing when you make a coaching change.

The only question is where will Ryan Daly play as a GT next year.

The lack of basketball knowledge on this board really shows when you don't understand what a great player he is. the Goose really played him hard (which is what he didn't do at Bama). as gilly says "he may not look the part", but anyone who knows anything about hoops would know how good he is.

agreed, LT. kid can play.
some guys look like Tarzan, play like Jane.
this guy looks like Bumper from Pitch Perfect, but he put up 32 against Villanova and 25 against Florida. nice job shutting him down.

To be clear, the man who shut him down last night was Goose. Goose was all over him the second he had the ball, denying dribble penetration, locking him down on the perimeter, using his long arms to alter his shots when he did get one. It was probably one of the best singular defensive efforts I have seen from a Spider player since Tony Dobbins. Goose didn't score a point last night but if there was an MVP in a blowout game like, it would go to Goose for taking the only player St. Joes who could hurt us completely out of the game.

Another observation from last night is that our starting 5 didn't play particular well together. Our runs were fueled by many of our back-ups. The line up of Grace, Woj, Goose, Blake played some really great ball last night.

I really love the intensity that Woj is playing with, amazing what a little confidence could do. His flex after he got the and 1, we need more of that.

Yes, interesting and great to see Woj play so great the last two games after not much before that. I seem to recall a poster on here talking about stopping by practice and Woj playing like this. It is an adjustment in role, and maybe he has adjusted?

Looks uninterested out there. Competition for playing time has brought the best out of Grace and Wojcik. Maybe Sherod has gone the opposite way
He’s a solid player, but he doesn’t look like the same player he was before his injury. Maybe it’s psychological, it’s probably I don’t know what I’m talking about, as 32 loves to say about me, but
if he could get back to where he was before the injury we would really be a deadly team.

It may just be the opponents, but to me he looked good the 1st 5 games, then 2 games where his plant leg was off, then ok for 2 games. Now I don’t see what is wrong anymore but he has been off the last 5 games.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m a big supporter of Sherod, I just want him back to the level he’s
capable of. He deserves it.

A torn ACL is certainly tough to come back from, so maybe he’s feeling some of the effects of that. I think the more likely answer is that he’s not being relied on like he was in the past, and has become more passive due to that. Two years ago, if he wasn’t making his threes, he would back guys down in the post and still score. This year he’s become almost solely a catch and shoot guy.

Agree he started the year off hot, let’s hope he can get back to that.

Yeah if he didn’t start off blazing hot acl would be more of a concern. He has a passive personality so I think that gets attributed to his game too. I’d like us to use him in post too some. He’s got a big lower body and shown some past low post moves plus fadeaway b4. In fact the play call should be Back That Ass Up.

Make sure we fire the strength and conditioning coach also. We are soooooo damn weak inside.

I always question about how muscle coach trains since i saw video about that little computer and saw the little video with bands and whole team working out in room only maybe 10feet wide
