Spiders' best wins

playing and beating at homecoming west va to go 7-0 and be ranked on monday #20 of all of football, no 1AA or 1A or fcs, fbs, all of football. if that win is not on there, don't make a list

You would think the WVA game and the Tangerine Bowl would be there, also the App St game to end their streak. But none of those made it. Odd to see UMass 08 on the list

I think the national championship game against Montana, and the game before that at Northern Iowa, were good games. I also believe this win against UVA was a signature win.

2008 overtime game in Williamsburg comes to mind for me. We went to the playoffs and W&M stayed home. That easily could have ended with reverse fortunes. They put UMass in the playoffs that year and W&M was clearly a better team. We could have been the team that got hosed and W&M could have gone on to face Montana and been champs. That would have been unbearable.

The game against W&M we hit the 45-49 yard field goal with no time remaining in
and around 2008.

According to the record book, we won 23-20 in overtime in 2008. I believe you are thinking of the game in Richmond the following year. That was a great game as well and the last one we played in City Stadium I believe.

The Delaware game has to be on that list. That was an all-timer, and so many crazy things happened at the end, too.

Another one that needs to be there is the win at JMU in 1995, I believe it was? 34-33. We were down 33-14 with like 4 minutes to go and scored three touchdowns to win, then survived a Hail Mary down to the goalline as time expired to hang on for the win. Still maybe the most incredible game I've seen in person.

I think I'd bump the '98 W&M game and the Arkansas State game from the list for those two.

This is the one...

Also one of Bob Black's best calls ever, IMO.

My favorite is going to JMU and beating Game Day U's butt. My second is the 2008 UMASS game. They had not lost at home in forever. We had to get it done that day.

A couple more sneaky good ones that aren't in the Top 10 but probably Top 25:

2005: We upset Brian Westbrook / Brian Finneran led Villanova on a dreary day. This was the day that Clawson's efforts began to come together.

2007: We knock off a Ricky Santos led UNH team, led by a pulsating Justin Rogers. JR has a pick 6 and a kick return for TD.

Everyone has their own opinions, but I remember the game you are referring to as one we almost choked away. Spiders were up 20-0 at the half, and were very lucky to win it.

My favorite would be the Appy State game, in which we totally dominated the three times defending champion in their stadium.

That 05 year also had the shootout vs Marques Colston and Hofstra that went to OT that kept it going. Best FCS player I've seen vs UR.

App St. at App St. when it began snowing on the way to the 2008 NC. They were untouchable at the Rock. 33-13.

I agree not only a signature win but unexpected that we beat them that soundly. Made a long trip home very enjoyable.

I was at that game! I forced my friends to stay to the end.
I still think last year's win at Harrisonburg was more impressive. JMU was ranked higher, and all the hype from GameDay just made the atmosphere incredible. Both teams were better than their counterparts in 1995.

The Appy St win should be in included in my opinion. It was a huge playoff win on the road against the reigning kings of the FCS hill. I think that win really gave our guys confidence that carried over throughout that playoff/championship run. App St had beaten us previously under Clawson and it was a huge hurdle to get past them at "the Rock".

agree this game should be on a list...it was that era's equivalent of beating NDSU in the Dome...an amazing atmosphere and accomplishment...

Go Spiders!

That was the "Patrick Weldon game". He had an amazing performance to give Armanti Edwards fits all game
