My guess is preseason coaches poll will have us at 14th. Barring some miraculous freshmen performance we will probably finish 12th
I think the no guys leaving issue is has a few facets. You hit one - most of our guys have had their value diminished under Mooney this last season. Bad stats, and losing games is not an attractive look. Also, the culture of comfort - if you are not getting a bag somewhere else - at least you have a pretty stress free basketball environment at Richmond. And thirdly, guessing Moon is just not into "forcing" guys out. So every day that passes seems like we may have our roster set.Just truly a terrible roster and for whatever reason, none of our guys seem to wanna leave (perhaps they also have no better options) so we are stuck not being able to turn the roster over.

I would like to add another big time shooter to start with Johnston.Tyne can defend at the point, but he's not a point guard offensively. I know we run a lot through our big men, but a point has to create a little. Tyne doesn't create. He's really a short 2 guard ... despite the shooting percentage.
Johnston is our offensive scoring PG. if Tyne shoots better next year, play him at the 2 offensively. Otherwise he's the backup point ... despite the loyalty.
depends on whose spot we'd be replacing.I would like to add another big time shooter to start with Johnston.
Gonna repeat myself. The Mooney loyalty factor prevails and is consistent. Without naming past players out of respect for them, we’ve seen this play out. Tyne will start and will get lots of minutes. Not saying he is in the class of several of our outstanding small guards thru the years, but he did have a good run to close out the year. Also, all the other possibilities right now such as redshirts, transfers, and freshmen are unproven as Spiders, and we really don’t know how they perform in Mooneyball. Projection and reality don’t always align.Particularly if Tyne is getting the 30-35 minutes of run regardless of who might be better him
I get what u are saying. Hopefully, we can land another shooter and a big if both Soulis and Beagle are gone.depends on whose spot we'd be replacing.
I think it's a different plan if Graham portals vs if Beagle portals.
If both of those guys are gone we are getting at least one other big if not two.I get what u are saying. Hopefully, we can land another shooter and a big if both Soulis and Beagle are gone.
I don’t know the makeup of the portal, but getting 2 bigs or even 1 might be easier said than done. Or if bigs are available then what skill level are they?If both of those guys are gone we are getting at least one other big if not two.
Not at all easy. We typically roster two center types and often a third with at least one of these being developmental. With soulis gone we are in rough shape after next year.I don’t know the makeup of the portal, but getting 2 bigs or even 1 might be easier said than done. I hear Oscar Cluff is ok…I don’t know the makeup of the portal, but getting 2 bigs or even 1 might be easier said than done. Or if bigs are available then what skill level are they?
In this case can we use a term for position less player in our supposed position less scheme? I know in football recruiting some guys are listed as "athlete"Yeah but by the same logic if he can’t rebound or work the paint he’s not a F.
So, he’s a guard, pretty sure of it.
But, we should be pretty attractive to a quality big who wants good minutes. Not at all easy. We typically roster two center types and often a third with at least one of these being developmental. With soulis gone we are in rough shape after next year.
If he visited, could also be a good sign that we had a new portal entry right after his visit. Now with two spots available, I think getting Daughtry is a must, I was a little bored and saw that both Tyne and Collin Tanner both follow Daughtry on Instagram and Will Gipe recently followed him on X, this could mean nothing but i would assume this means he was on campus within the past couple days and this could be a good sign. Again this could mean nothing but we’ll see.
Did some additional sleuthing and saw JOC follows Daughtry on Twitter. Don’t know how many non-UR folks JOC follows but hopefully this is a promising sign. I think will make an instant impact and be a day one starter for us.Now with two spots available, I think getting Daughtry is a must, I was a little bored and saw that both Tyne and Collin Tanner both follow Daughtry on Instagram and Will Gipe recently followed him on X, this could mean nothing but i would assume this means he was on campus within the past couple days and this could be a good sign. I’m perfectly fine with that.In this case can we use a term for position less player in our supposed position less scheme? I know in football recruiting some guys are listed as "athlete"
Sure, but you’re pretty much hoping that whoever you get is going to be serviceable/good. CM doesn’t have a superior track record at talent identification and we’ve seen it typically takes a guy at least until their second year here to get pretty effective in his system. But, we should be pretty attractive to a quality big who wants good minutes.
Next Jo Jon Bryant without the hopsLike bigger guards and Daughtery looks very solid and like fact he is left handed. One thought on lineup
is AP is a good size at 6’8 to play a third center and can rebound.
Agree. He looks like he has good size/length and his shooting stroke looks pretty decent, even though has not put up big numbers. But I think adding him with Daughtry would give us a nice upgrade at forward.Go after guy at Norfolk State in the portal.
I think Richardson is a guard. Not that it matters much because he could see time with 2 other guards out there. The roster looks crowded at guard, but I think we still need to add a proven one who can shoot. Johnston was a great add and should be our best player and lead us in minutes and scoring, but who is our other guy, or in a 3 guard lineup, guys there? Tyne has the experience, but also was 38-140 (27.1%) from 3 last year, and despite playing the most minutes, only had the 4th most assists with only 45 to go along with 51 turnovers. Compare that to Johnston, who was 68-186 (36.6%) from 3, and had a very impressive 101 assists to only 39 turnovers. I would love our backcourt if we could find another Johnston type out there.Guards - Tyne , David Thomas, Will Johnston, Kirby Mooney, Argabright, Harper,
Forwards - Robinson, Daughtry, AP, Tanner, McGlothin, Richardson
Center - Walz , Beagle
Feeling like this is a more competitive roster if stay healthy. Not saying top of the A10, but more competitive. Guards - GW3 never got a chance, White was always gimpy when he played, and Dlo was solid but injured early. I think both Johnston and Thomas can contribute a lot more. Johnston looks pretty decent and very durable - which would be great.
Forwards - Lose Dusan, add Daughtry. Though not as flashy as Dusan, I am very hopeful Daughtry is just a better all around player and can bring a little toughness. No idea from highlights only, but have to be hopeful here. If JRob or McGlothin can bring something I think will be better. And as down on AP, I do think he has potential to take a jump, essentially has not played competitive real games for a few years before last. Hope Tanner realizes he needs to take a step up to stay on floor.
Centers - Hopefully something clicks for Walz and/or Beagle. Walz looked really good at times, but it always seems to be when it doesn't matter. Need him to be a force from day 1. Walk the walk, I no longer care that you sound good in interviews. Period. Or that you take responsibility when your head coach won't. Show it on the court!
Need one more player. I think a Dji clone would be nice.
