Guards - Tyne , Kirby Mooney, Argabright, Harper,

Forwards - Beagle, Robinson, AP, Tanner, McGlothin, Graham, Richardson

Center - Walz , Soulis

Normally wouldn't count Mooney and Graham so much, but I guess with new rules they are taking up a spot.

Pretty bleak at the moment. Not seeing any All A10 type performers. As a few others have noted, it is probably a good thing if we get a few more into the portal. Only reason we wouldn't is the culture of comfort is just too hard to leave the nest. The guard room is really hurting. I know Tyne showed a little something down the stretch, but in general he didn't improve much on freshman year, and at his size unless he is going to be a huge disrupter or scorer he becomes a liability. Probably be best if two out of three from Beagle, Tanner, and AP were to hit the portal, but we will see. Mooney and Graham, well we are likely stuck with them taking up space. Not too worried about them, if we get some others out, b/c 15 is a lot of players - I know we want to increase Mooney's chances to get a helpful player, but sometimes its OK to have guys on the bench that are fully committed.
Hoping to have Walz and Soulis back. I still think Soulis has a good amount of upside. Hopefully full healthy and can find some type of competitive outlet to play good competition and improve this summer. Walz is Walz, had a good stretch at end of year, but didn't do a lot prior. But he is big and can bang and tries hard mostly. Hope he is back.

Despite the narrative on here that JRob and McGlothin must stink b/c they couldn't beat out the other guys on the roster - I am still high on them and think they could be players. I have this sneaky feeling that Moon and his boy 80s fan over paid to get AP, Beagle, Nesko and crew - and therefore felt committed to playing them. Writing was on the wall early for the freshman, (and as sman points out) why not take a year off and extend your NIL earnings window? Makes sense to me.

But man on man we need guards, two of them. Bad.

still high on JRob and McG too. lot of middle ground btw they stink and all A10. not the former but long way from latter. but likely more developmental than we'd like instead of impactful freshman which is nicer. & I'm convinced it's also a byproduct of our culture of comfort operation. the summer extension made this decision. reset mode. 4-5 year player narrative. try to catch lightning in a bottle in 2027-28. most don't want to or can't operate that way. we do.

I see we r still trying to make 1 of those 3 centers a forward

Right - Spider23 forgot Mooney rule #341 that no 2 players over 6'10 can be on the court at any one time

I don’t think of Beagle as a F and neither does CM.

I think of Tyne as a serviceable backup but he has been inconsistent as the lead guard.

It’s a pretty sketchy roster right now.

On paper this looks like a very lower tier A10 roster again. Of the redshirts and incoming freshmen, we really only have hs video on them and hs stats to project. Hopefully they step up cause they are needed now with current holes to fill. Remains to be seen what quality Moon picks up in portal. Can we flip next year to be a good year compared to this past season, or are we destined to a similar year?

same story we were told last year. feels like what you say to keep a guy from transferring.

I actually do think Beagle is an old school PF in a different system ... moreso than Soulis.
in Mooney's offense I'd play Beagle inside with Walz up top. I (and others) was calling for that all year. but by now I've given up on Mooney doing it. wonder if Beagle has too.

Totally agree, I think Beagles role is as an inside 4-type sort of like Cayo in the sense that he’s probably rarely going to shoot a three.

He seems to have fallen behind Soulis at point-center.

Yes, this is why I think Beagle is a likely transfer candidate. He is more in the mold of the Cayo "4", but was never played there despite the lip service. If he goes, will be interesting to see what level he transfers. Unfortunately for him, this past season probably hurt his stock a bit, but who knows.

It's interesting, based on the feedback here some are saying focus on shooters/offense in the portal. I feel like our defense was even worse, and just having guys with low basketball IQ and not great at sharing the ball. We went after shooters last portal and turns out against A10 comp the could not shoot. As usual it's a mix. But get me two players like Dji and then two guys that are legit scorers would be my wish list.
I think last year we landed a couple of p5 big name school guys late, but think there was a reason they were still available.

I don’t understand how you can be high on players who couldn’t get playing time on one of the worst teams in DI basketball.

high on potential. & high was probably a little strong. I definitely have some pause and uncertainty after the redshirts.

but the I'm in the camp that the redshirts weren't solely about playing time. lot of reasons. 1. Mooney is bad at figuring out who to play & rotations. he thought our other guys were better than they were. heck it took him until the last 8 games of entire season to get that D'Etremont could help us more than others. 2. hard to reverse redshirt season once u r past 1/4 of season or so. 3. as I think section9 has said from players perspective the 5th year can help with rev share & NIL...get paid more when u r at your highest assuming they develop...but unfortunately the odds of that benefitting us the most r quite slim. 4. top reason to me, Moon is playing the long game. said it b4. reset time with a big frosh class next year. the extension gave him carte blanche to do it. I don't like it but it helps him. & maybe he thought last year without those 2 that we'd be decent at worst instead of really bad.

clearly they weren't going to be all rookie a10 guys last season...because if that was the case...I do think they would have played. based on Moon hs recruiting it's likely 1 of the 2 flames out anyway.

but we don't have a lot to hold onto right now so we need them to be good.

A) Mooney clearly talking long game - so he basically was using as a "stash" year to kick the can
B) Moon had to likely pay for (or his NIL buddies) and sell to Nesko and AP and Beagle to come to Richmond and play big minutes -so between those two factors was going with his portal vets no matter what.

Agree, in most worlds its not logical. BUt again, this is the time of year where all these guys are stars at Richmond - the offseason! :)

Mooney long game = liability.

UR long game has gone on for way too long. 20 year results not great payback.
