Rocco mentioned in connection with UD job

IMHO, they are sacrificing everything this team has worked so hard to accomplish this year. I do not see how Coach Rocco stays at this point.

How about his commitment to the players he has recruited over the past several years.
Given his character, can't imagine he would leave for a lateral opportunity.

Nonsense.All conjecture.No substantiation.
And how do you substantiate this. Do you think they will tell us what's going on? conjecture yes, based on what appears to be going on, what's left when you don't get any information about a very odd circumstance.

Having traveled all over the the state of Delaware, I can tell you it is a dump, even the beaches are sketchy. Only positive about going there for a coach is the ability to get a ham sandwich admitted.

I would pay no attention to this article except that our administration is asleep at the wheel. As Moliva said, we deserve whatever we get. As Fan 1 said, someone needs to make the trustees aware of this situation. Lets hope its all about nothing.

remember where DR came from, another fcs program where they all could not figure out why he was leaving to go to UR. he has shown he will move within fcs and would guess besides the size and academics, would receive a sizable raise as well as being able to shoot the bird on the way up boatwright.

How can a coach work for a school that will throw his team under the bus at the first sign of political correctness?

Coach Rocco does not want to go anywhere. He has the goal of winning a National Championship and he believes that he can obtain such goal at UR. He and his family are happy with Richmond. If we treat him right, he will retire here and be probably be given due credit with an appropriate permanent mark or acknowledgment at the stadium for his contribution to the school.

If he doesn't already have a long-term contract rewarding him appropriately for his success, he needs one soon. If you want to help with this, set out your thoughts and feelings in an email and/or a letter and send them the President, the AD, and to each member of the Board of Trustees. While I am not suggesting that complaining about the problem on this board is useless, writing to those whose addresses and/or emails are linked or set out below will be vastly more influential than what is said here.

To encourage and make it easier for all to write letters or emails, I encourage those posters who are interested in writing such letters to post a draft of what they will be writing to help others in the compilation of their letters or emails. I will be posting my draft in the next day or two.

The addresses of the parties mentioned above are as follows:

Link: Board of Trustees Membership - write to each of them with their name followed by
,Member, Board of Trustees
University of Richmond
28 Westhampton Way
University of Richmond, Virginia 23173
(It would also be helpful to write to the Trustees Emeriti who are listed below the Trustees at the above site. I do not have the email addresses for any of the Trustees, Active or Emeriti. Perhaps someone else on this board has access to them and will post them in this thread)

Ronald A. Crutcher

Rocco is one of the best football coaches Richmond has ever had and I hope he has a long tenure as a Spider. Don't like to see his name mentioned for another position because no matter how it turns out that implies there is a possibility it could happen. No option other than to wait this out. Totally agree our admin should get in gear and extend Rocco's contract.

You don't expect we old folk to formulate a coherent,on point letter/note/memo which would put forth an undeniable viewpoint
that the UR admin would be unable to refute.

We need a template with your writing skills having contributed
with your insightfulness and proper syntax.

I am fully occupied now trying to strategically decide what live Turkey to select for tomorrow's feast as well as leaving no traces of my sampling of the already baked pumpkin and pecan pies. These are very trying times where it's extremely challenging to multitask.

I heard from someone this week that Rocco's contract may have more than 1 year left and possibly as many as 4 years because of the way it is structured. It extends when the team is successful. I wish this would be publicized if it is true.

That said, i still find his name being mentioned with the vacancy of a conference opponent to be alarming.

My point all along has been , If he does have more than one year then say so. Its got to be a problem in recruiting. I definitely think its 2 years at least. All of us have big egos and its got to be in DR's mind. Our administration doesn't seem to understand the power of PR. It helps DR and his ego and a big issue in recruiting. I had a coach at one of our CAA opponents ask me about it. He just looked at me and said WHY? You know that he is using that against us. DR is well paid and probably has more years than we realize but why keep it secret. The university has not said one word that I know of since his sucessful year last year and into this year. Not very smart move in todays athletic world.

why does anyone on here feel that he does not have multiple years left on his contract? also, he is a successful coach and he will be approached, we should get used to that but, yes, another league school? NO

Well, he signed a 5 year extension after 1 year into working at UR. Fairly simple why one would think he has 1 year left.

but then you said it may be a fluid contract with automatic extensions, which probably would not be announced. could see why delaware would be in touch with his agent, they need a coach but not confident that the contract is a prob.

The only identified ally of football on the Board is Leland Melvin. Queally would rather have Robins Stadium become the premier Men's Lacrosse facility in the country. I would be afraid of this whole situation.

Queally is a dick but I do believe he is an ally of Spider football.

What do you mean by "identified?" S.D. Roberts is a huge ally of Spider football. So are Tim Finchem and Robert King, Sr. Most likely many others. There are names I do not recognize but have no reason to believe that they do not support FB. I know that many Trustees Emeriti are huge supporters and though not active have a substantial voice.
Claiborne Robins, Jr. is a big ally as well. So is his sister, Ann Carol Marchant who was a member of the BoT in 2012. I am not sure about the other sister, Betty Robins Porter. Claiborne, Jr may not be on the BoT, but I am sure that is by choice. Regardless, he has more clout than about anyone on the board. His father provided the funds for the Robins Center and Claiborne, Jr. and his family provided the bulk of the money for Robins Stadium.

Your post doesn't fit the narrative of "Our school hates all sports and is trying to ruin them through any and all means possible." Therefore, please remove it from this thread.

Speaking from experience it's not good to have the administration against football at a school. We went through that at my high school several times while I was there and it has left the program in shambles.

How can a coach work for a school that will throw his team under the bus at the first sign of political correctness?

What do you base this statement upon? Two of his players have been accused of something and have played in virtually every game since being accused. Neither was kicked off the team or expelled from the university as the result of those initial accusations. That doesn't sound like a university throwing the football team under a bus to me. Quite the contrary.

One of Mooney's players was kicked off the basketball team last year. Was the administration throwing the basketball team under the program then? Or did the kid actually do what he was accused of doing? Or are we simply suggesting that any time an athlete is accused of something similar, he is automatically innocent -- and therefore any action taken against him by the school should really be viewed as "PC action" by a university that's out to throw its sports teams under the bus?

Admittedly, your points are valid. However, there seems to be a connection between Broadus' removal and the mention of Danny Rocco as a candidate for the Delaware job in the Delaware press. The timing is too coincidental. Why would Rocco consider leaving a team that is stocked with talent at UR for a school that just fired it's coach?

We know that Broadus was kicked off the team as it was making a post season run and right before Senior day. That is too coincidental.

The problem with the terms Innocent and Guilty , no longer mean what we have long thought what they mean, in the world of Title IX. The basic rights you have in a court of law, do not exist in the world of Title IX. Not being allowed to call witnesses, double jeopardy are two of the big ones. The judge/jury? Not judges who are veterans of the legal system--typically professors/administrators whose Training for this is minimal at best. How can you defend your innocence in a system that is stacked against the accused? I'm not taking any individual athletes side, but it doesn't take long to see how many accused/dismissed male students and/or male athletes who have sued the school and won.

Who says Danny is considering to leave UR?The author from the Delaware rag is a 2 bit nothing. Is he suggesting that Danny is going
to leave? No,he isn't.He's throwing names into an article including Mickey Matthews. Is this a serious article. No it isn't.

Are you suggesting that Danny is leaving?

Who is suggesting that Danny is leaving because he supposedly hasn't renewed a contract
with UR which now runs through 12/31/17?

Danny can leave UR anytime he wants, with or without a renewed/updated contract. He can also take his staff members if he wants. So what.

This is all about conjecture with no basis in fact.Typical.

No one on this board has a clue what happened recently to cause Broadus to be suspended. Or, if they do, they have chosen not to share it. Your suggestion about the recent Broadus suspension is a topic about which you do not have one iota of knowledge. To assert such illogicality and tie it to a connection of DR's mention in an article suggesting that he might be a good fit at Delaware is a nothing less that a specious perversion of any rational conclusion and such a discussion of your perceived inconsonance of the events with reality is simply idle gossip.

Like I mentioned in my initial post, I have heard this from other good sources not named Kevin Tresolini with the News Journal.

Our Administration needs a fire lit under its ass. Perhaps this article will do it.
Why would Rocco entertain leaving? How about this- he believes the administration is undermining his team. Give me one good reason Broadus was dismissed from the team on Senior Day and right as UR was making a title run? Here is an idea- the lawyers of the accuser threatened the University with a lawsuit if he was allowed to play. From my vantage point, the administration was pressured by lawyers to remove Broadus from the team. Because of this pressure, Rocco decides he wants to test the water. It is the only theory that fits the facts.

Speaking of water, are you mixing some cheap, homemade moonshine with your water lately?"A theory that fits the facts".Such a statement is devoid of both logic and coherence.Sadly, the theory is a non sequitur. How would an unproven and untested theory fit the facts?Obviously the author never took a UR mathematics or philosophy course. We are all interested readers but such statement is not even tangentially coherent.
I could actually see Danny going to Texas or LSU but not a chicken farm in Newark,Delaware.

Please start that theory,Mr Stonewall.Entitle it"Here's some more nonsense from me-see if you believe more of the same old nonsense crap".

I'm bored. Start the game already. They need to double Rocco's salary. There is no way Rocco goes to the cesspool of Delaware.

Remember the cry- "Don't forget Cooper" ! The schools worst president, and harmful to
the athletic department. Is Crutcher following that path?

If Crutcher wants to destroy athletics, he sure has an odd way of showing it in taking time to meet with high-profile recruits to help sell them on UR.

IMHO, The Administration and BOT need to show more support for our athletic programs. Not just lip service, or a few trinkets, but support to allow them to recruit the players we need, keep the coaches we want, and compete at the level we are at.

One question, how many members of the Board and upper Administration regularly appear at our games?

my personal feeling is that our admin supports our athletics, look at our facilities, etc. are we getting into bidding wars over our assistants, hopefully not. can we get some more thing which might help, probably. R, how many members of the board live in richmond? don't know that answer but would also ask, in the past, has our board shown up in large numbers to games? don't know the answer to that either but a good question to ask. most of us, probably none of us know much about anything yet we are coming up with all these conspiracy theories on things......pure speculation, could be right, might be way off base.

support shows up in money, and everyone can use more, not my point. No theories, just observations and discussions with others in the know

have no idea what President Crutcher's position is on football, or our athletics in general, but I know today he and AD Gill were at the sideline to greet and congratulate Coach Rocco as the Spiders left the field after the victory...

Coach Rocco appeared to be smiling as they spoke...Ha! maybe they straightened out the contract thing?...

Go Spiders!
