Re: Boy oh boy, maybe a girl fight

It will be interesting to see if the Big 12 refs will let the hacking and fouling that is the essential core of Hack-Voc go on. I also give Mooney credit for coming up with the blue print to beat havoc in 2011, when Kevin Anderson destroyed RPI. Good teams have been following that model since the final 4 miracle that was assisted by the refs and teams not ready for the hacking onslaught.

I was unaware that VCU barely beat other teams during the F4 run, with the help of the refs. Or are you saying the refs did all the work to have VCU beat Purdue by 20?

I'd argue that the first 2-3 Shaka teams barely had any "havoc"

The "I'd argue (about anything on the UR board)" is a correct statement.

How did we ever survive this stretch against VCU back in the old days?

Danny Kottak played from 77 to 81 with Ed Sherod, Ren Watson, Kenny Stancell and Monty Knight on the Dana Kirk coached team.
The 81-85 JD Barnett team consisted of Calvin Duncan, Mike Schlegel, Rolando Lamb and Mike Brown.

JMU and UR had very good teams in those ECAC South days. Later came your incredible Dick Tarrant teams.

VCU alum and fan here:) I promise not to troll (maybe) because my wife is a Westhampton gal.

AA we see she brought some class into your life ;)
She sure did. I can still be a Spider hater like my UR friends that hate on my Rams. It is all part of the rivalry :D. You know...the schadenfreude thing.
My wife is not into watching sports but I still have to deal with Spider mail. Some of you see me on my home turf so do not get the impression that I will flood you with black & gold rigamarole. I did after all have Pete Woolfolk at my bachelor party and I covered the Johnny Newman led team that beat Barkley's Auburn Tigers. So there is respect (somewhat...)
Anyway, I just wanted to point out that VCU had some very good players during the time period that was highlighted in the above post. I still cringe if I hear the name Kenny Atkinson or have a memory of the Hey Winiecki you're so fine you blow my mind! Hey Hey Winiecki chant :)

did we really do that? Yikes. I might have hated the Spiders back then, too.

Winiecki wasn't any good until his last year. Monacan boy, and I never heard any one at UR sing that, ever. I did hear several young girls sitting behind me that used say after the announcer said "Greg Robbins" "Yummmm". Mimicking the Red Robins commercials.

I heard it many times when I was sitting on the floor under the basket shooting video of the games. I have friends that played football for UR and they would do that chant in the Rowdies section.
Wineicki scored over 1,000 points and grabbed over 500 rebounds so he was pretty good in my opinion. He was playing behind Pete Woolfolk most of his career so his minutes were minimal. He still used his minutes to be efficient.

Mike was very good his last year. Unstoppable inside. He got strong!!

And he knows how to coach the bigs- http://www.clemsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205528958

The 6-foot-8 Winiecki has had a major impact on Clemson's frontcourt players since day one of the Brownell era. In 2010-11, he coached Jerai Grant to All-ACC Defensive Team honors. Grant led the team and was third in the ACC in blocks per game. He also improved his scoring average from 7.2 points per game as a junior to 12.4 as a senior under Winiecki's watch.

Winiecki was instrumental in the development of 7-foot-2 center Catalin Baciu, a senior in 2011-12. Rarely used prior to Brownell's arrival, Baciu accounted for 68 percent of his career points his senior season alone and led the Tigers with a .581 field goal percentage.

Below is a thread from December 2012 about WSU's "war chant" since they didn't really know the lyrics. In the thread you'll see the, talking about how they stole it from VCU. For them it gained popularity during their 2013 NCAA run.

They did not play it when VCU visit Koch Arena in 2011, or when we played them in the NCAAs in the spring of 2012.

I can't disprove your neighbors daughter playing it in 2005 though,

don't matter
they both got it from HBCU bands who have been using it for at least 30 years

BTW: Texass has backed down from the HAVOC fight
