Raising all boats

Yes, and I remember the exuberance following our wins against Morehead and Vandy in the 2011 dance. Seemed like everything was paved for success for Mooney to have a ton of success. Instead, the A10 quickly figured out the vaunted match up zone, and either we aimed too high on recruits, or thought we were so smart we could win with less. In any event, I do like our current roster and recruits. I think we are positioned to be good next year, not great - hopeful that the next season we can get back to trying to win an A10 championship. I do think that if we can obtain an impactful big for next season it can make things very interesting.

I'm not going to count on an impactful big as a freshman.
Grace gets better and better with each opportunity but he's not likely going to replace Grant equally. nobody is. Weir is unknown but a good get. and there's Sal. I know some don't like Sal as the post. I think it might be his best spot next year. he's not a wing.

Hardt "goes nautical" in RTD talking about "rising tide" in his description of our #19 ranking and pride of the Spiders!

“Rising tide that raises all boats in our athletics regatta“.

Lol how long was he saving that cringey take. Tried to warn u about Hardt’s pretentiousness. & way to play to stereotype w the regatta. Let’s have Mooney speak more & Captain Stubing a lot less.

Yep, thinking more of a transfer at this point. I like Grace too, but I think his impact greatly diminishes as a 30 minute guy. Sal made one nice play at end of KY game, but otherwise really always looks a step behind.

Hard to replace Gilly/Francis - BUT I like our chances to be solid 1-3 next year between Wilson, Nelson, Dji, Burton and Crabtree. Really think that between those guys you can be productive at those spots. But 4/5 is the tough spots. I like Burton at the 3.

Really need Weir to be ready after this year. If so, and we are not counting on Grace for 35 minutes - I think that position is solid. If we can plug in a good 4 as a transfer we have a shot to have a really good "bridge" year, with big expectations again the following season.

My alternative plan is that Gilly/Golden/Francis/Cayo all come back for one more season.

Heck, I would just take Cayo back for one more and that solves immediate issue.

Ha! I was thinking more Judge Smails, but Love Boat it is.

Judge Smails definitely works too.

I can’t imagine anyone reading that quote and not rolling their eyes. Programmatically who says that.

But at least it clears something up. The yacht club sweater Mooney was wearing during UK game was clearly a gift from Hardt.

if we land an immediately available impact big forward with our last spot, then yes keep Burton at the 3. but until then, I'm assuming Burton becomes our bigger forward.

I expect Wilson and Goose to start along with one of many options to make up the 1-3 spots (Nelson, Crabtree, Dji, Dread, Randolph, or Noyes).
then Burton at the 4 and one of the 3 bigs in the post.

Mrs. Broccoli noticed that sweater, too. "Why isn't he wearing Richmond colors? What an odd choice for a national spotlight game." But fashion can be forgiven with a victory like that!

If we can't parlay this season into an immediate transfer with big talent, something is wrong.

what I'm still unclear about is the new transfer rules. everyone gets a redshirt this year if they want it. but as I understand it, it's only usable at your current institution.

I think they'll make an exception for the Ivy league which isn't playing and doesn't allow graduate athletes. so you have to let them transfer and play. so a good Ivy grad transfer is a good bet, but as always there's a lot of demand from the P5 schools for immediately available transfers.

We need a good passing big to replace Grant who can log 25-30 minutes a game. Is that player on the roster?

Our best teams have a player at the 5 (yes, the 5) who can facilitate our offense from that spot (Geriot, TJ, Grant). The offense is nowhere near as effective without that good passer.

Yes the "nautical" nature of the comments was unusual. Thought the club crew team was going to be moving to varsity crew! The Navy has had three USS Richmond ships. The latest made it through two World Wars and was decommissioned in December 1945. Hopefully Hardt's "Richmond" will have fair winds and following seas!

I hope the other boats in our athletics regatta are not taking on water now

I hope our regatta anchored by the USS Mediocrity is doing ok. I don’t know maybe pretentious Hardt can give us an update. The women’s team got curb stomped by their city rivals but Roussell only needs to walk down the hall to get advice dealing w that.

I just hope our leadership was able to eat a nice meal of meat and potatoes after the game today.

As Brent Musburger would say "you are looking live" at the UR Regatta.

Hey Gilligan did you eat the Skipper.

"don't worry the next time we face VCU a different result will happen". I can almost guarantee we will learn from this game. Mooney nothing is a guarantee. wake up everyone.

Cant lose at Costco if you don’t play there...(Mooney is good at finding the technicalities)

REGATTA update

“Are u telling me how to sail?! Are u telling me how to sail?!”

Hardt may look like the great John Candy but he’s definitely Richard Crenna.

this could easily be Hardt & Mooney bickering today.

extra credit if u can name the movie without looking it up.

I didn’t even play it and I could tell it was summer rental. And for no other reason at all. Promise. I swear. (Thanks YouTube)

well done chop & tbone. I just realized the YouTube screenshot has the movie title in it. Whoopsie. but I believe u r both a child of the 80s so u get full cred. Well at least Chop. The 80s truly the best decade of movies esp from this kind of genre.

I was torn honestly between Summer Rental and One Crazy Summer. Both w regatta themes.

u could make a horror movie out of the U of R Regatta.

Our regatta reminds me more of Joel trying to stop his dad's Porsche from rolling into Lake Michigan in a different 80s movie.
