Our season is over

I actually played on a very good high school team coached by a former Spider and I actually have three state rings as a result. Maybe it is time for me to pick my head up and continue to support us. I'm just stating my honest opinion, which is that we put so much into that game over two weeks and didn't get it done. Our defense is flat out just not very good and we're not going very far with that.
Dude get a grip. We're a top 10 team that lost to another top 10 team in a one possession game. What's this we stuff, what number are you wearing. You're not on the kick coverage team, are you?

well, just keep it to yourself. everyone has disappointments in life, some that mean a ton more than a game. some quit, others keep going. need to keep going, no quitting

This team will not quit and they didn't quit yesterday. They will come back next week and win big before taking down the Tribe.

V_T if you are a Spider fan or not is not important. However any fan of any school who thinks our season is over need look no farther than my aviator. It was taken on the day we die hard true Spiders established in our hearts and mind that the drive in us will never call it over until a week or two after it is over.

I remember that very well. I was in 6th grade at the time watching the game with my dad at the old champps sports bar in stony point. I kept saying it was over when we were down 20 to 7 and I thought it was over when we lost to jmu that year too. Reason for optimism but I just don't think this team has it in them.

VT, understand your dismay but not like we lost to URI. Spiders got beat by a really talented, well-coached team. Defense and special teams are troubling but next 2 opponents do not have that kind of offensive talent. Expect some defensive changes in scheme based on UD & WM offenses, neither of which have talent of JMU. Sadly, I have no hope for special teams and am baffled how DR can allow such poor performance to continue for years. Should win next 2 but UD will be tougher than record reveals.

VT we will win Saturday and start the winning again, Never give up; on the Spiders. Remember 2008 when we lost to JMU and from there we never lost another game that year. Let's get behind the Spiders and give them our full support and beat Delaware Blue Hens.

We are not the 08 team this year, people need to stop making that comparison because it is a very stupid one.

Yes, they are different teams, and I agree that the 2008 team was better. But this team is damn good, too. I'm not sure what your endgame is here though. Did you expect that we would beat JMU and go on to win the national championship, and now since we lost to them by 4 points, you think we will go out in the first round of the playoffs?

We're down to our fourth-string RB and missing an all-American safety and we still could have won Saturday. There are only a handful of teams in the country as talented as us. We will have to play one of them eventually if we keep winning, but there's no reason we can't beat one or several of them then.

cannot believe that people are still conversing with this guy. please let him talk with himself in his rubber room, no windows, no scissors

Competition has gotten much stiffer since 2008 most notably outside the CAA.
Where were Sammy,NDState,JAX State,Chatty,EWU even Citadel back then.
The App State,Montana of 2008/9 are not nearly as talented as today's top teams.

Not being able to make stops at key times is going to be our undoing. Also lets be honest, Lauletta as great as he is will have one of his games where he loses his head and can't keep the ball away from the other team. If we were fully healthy, especially with David Jones I think we would have a great shot. The guys playing for him back there are just god awful. We either need to make some changes defensively in either scheme or personnel.

I read the mention above here about the players crying in the locker room after the game. To me that tells me that these players are running through those brick walls for these coaches. They put every bit of their hearts into that game on Saturday to the point that they were so emotionally spent, the tears flowed. I love that. I want that effort heading into the most important game on our upcoming schedule - the next one.

I hope they keep it up, because that kind of effort has the chance to pay off in the ultimate success in any given season.

If there's a player in that locker room that thinks our season is over after that loss, I hope he leaves the team. That's a coin flip game against a team that will get #1 votes. We have to know if we execute better they're very beatable. There won't be a team in this year's playoffs we can't beat if we execute.

App State was then what NDSU is now; multiple repeat champion, seemingly invincible at home. The competition was just fine back in '08.
Did anyone doubt we could beat JMU in the rematch if they had held serve against Montana?

We would've beaten them so badly in the rematch. We were a buzzsaw at that point in the season.

This is quite possibly the stupidest title to a thread I have seen on the board. We are 7-2 and will very likely be seeded in the playoffs. Absolutely absurd.

The smoke is starting to clear for me and I'm starting to realize how stupid I have been the last few days. We still have a great opportunity and front of us and it's all up to our guys and how they handle the loss last week. I think I'm done with the negativity.

You need to consider the source. It was the JMU troll who said that.
I'm not a jmu troll. I talked to one of my buddies on the team and he gave me that information. He also said that the team won't let us down next week.

Wait - so he said they knew their season is over but also that they wouldn't let down?

No he I made up that our season is over. I came up with that out of my own frustration and opinions after Saturday's awful loss. He was the one that told me of the players crying in the locker room but also said that I would not be disappointed with this coming Saturday.

As of yesterday, we were packing up and getting ready for spring ball. Today we are going to make a run in the playoffs. Let me guess, we are going FBS as of tomorrow.

Why don't I just keep an open mind and see what happens.

Just stay away from roving packs of JMU fans at the local 7-11 and you should be ok

As I recall, FRS said he was attacked for wearing a Spider shirt at a Harrisonburg 7-11

VT is a 18/19 year old kid who wears his emotions on his sleeve. He said the smoke has cleared and he's seen the light. Let's cut the kid some slack.

VT, why don't you post a picture of you and your dad to end all the troll comments. We know what Brian looks like.

There's a picture floating around somewhere of me holding the national championship trophy after the team arrived back.

So, you go to VT, but root for the Spiders instead of, you know, the school you attend.
You were close to playing D1 football, but instead opted for VT and no football. No D2/D3?
You have 3 state rings and played for a Spider. Greg Lilly didn't win 3 rings while you were in high school, and Frank Rocco isn't a Spider.

I've got answers to all your questions. I root for the Spiders because as I've mentioned before they have always been my team from the moment I was consciously aware of football. Yes I do root for Tech because I go there. I was not close to playing d1 football, I didn't have the talent that my dad did and very few do. I absolutely would've be a Spider if I did have that talent. I wasn't really interested in playing d3 football because I had just come off a really bad shoulder injury my senior year and I just didn't feel like having to play non scholarship ball. Many people feel the same way I do about that. I chose VT because it is a great school and will put me on a great path to success. Lastly I played for the former Huguenot academy in Powhatan and was coached by former Spider fullback Mike Henderson my freshman year before he left to take the job at Freeman.

Cool. I know Mike. He's really turned DSF around.

He also would have zero tolerance for "OMG we lost a regular season game to a top 5 team our season is over."

Absolutely so. He was the best coach I've ever had in any sport I played growing up. He's a man of great character and has an unbelievable football mind and is a master motivator. I remember some of his fiery pre game speeches. What he has done at Freeman is remarkable, he took a stagnant program to a level where the go 9 and 1 or 8 and 2 like every year. I also was not all gloom and doom when I played because I knew there was something I could do to fix the problem. Being a fan is different because I can only speculate what is really happening.

Injuries killing us this year. Just not much depth in 1-AA. Special teams is a joke.

Guys, the season is over. We just got our 8th win to lock up a playoff birth but the season is over
My bad guys. I created this thread, it's stupid. Just like how my Hokies choked one away today to Georgia tech. We're in great shape, go beat the hell out if the Indians next week and we'll have a great seed. Not to ever cheer for an injury to someone but schor went down today and I heard he's done. Man how would I live to get another shot at the pukes!
