I don't see this impacting UR in anyway as Mooney I believe is safe for at least 2 more years, if not 3 and would expect he puts together a winning season in that timeframe. But interesting to see some of the rumors and happenings around college hoops and some of these could have an impact on the A10.

The shocker in my opinion is NC State and Keatts parting ways. This year has been a down year for them, but overall - he has been at NC State 8 years and they have made the tourney in 3 years, with a final four run just in 2024. I would think that final four run alone buys you 3-4 years after it occurs. He has won 20+ games in 5 out of the 8 seasons, and in 2 years made the NIT. So clearly looks like something behind the scenes happening in NC State. But that will be an opening that will likely get some looks and 2 coaches from the A10 high on the list for probably every major program will be VCU's Odom and Mason's Skinn. Odom will likely get a lot of calls. Skinn will likely be on the list of some programs - but probably a 3rd or 4th option if the search gets that far. But we could see some coaching changes in the A10.

this is deja vu from 7 years ago when we sucked for 2 years. fast forward to today ...

we sucked this year but Mooney has a bunch of years remaining.
we lose 20 games next year but like in 2019, our youth shows a ton of promise.
we show major improvement in 26-27 with a 20 win season.
we make the NCAA's in 27-28 and extend Mooney to 2033.

You literally just ruined my day.

Worse. That’s probably the ceiling.

25-26: very young. 5 freshman. Why we redshirted 2. Reset. Got extended 2 more years, 4 left after this year. No pressure. We can have another 8 win season next year no prob.

26-27: just show progression with previous year youth

27-28: don’t need to make ncaa. Just be sorta close in UR admin mind. It’s hard out there.

I'm not shocked. NC State was gonna fire him last year, but they went on a miracle run in the ACC tournament followed by a miracle run in the NCAA. So, they couldn't fire him after that. But this year, he laid a turd and NC State hit the firing button as Keatts reverted towards his mean.

Unlike our administration, NC State is able to see that a 3 week miracle conference tournament run and NCAA run is a one off and not building the program to be consistent NCAA team. We should have done the same thing in 2022, when Gilly and squad pulled off a miracle run in the A-10 tourney. We should have paid him for the accomplishment but not hamstrung the program by signing some big extension.

And at some point this sh*t has gotta stop with Mooney. He is not safe for 2 more years if he continues on this. I think next year if he pulls off a similar result to this year, we are going to move on. The fan base is tired and looking at Mooney he is tired as well.

The difference is the NIL factor. Even if we have a bunch of great young talent next year, that means probably half of it leaves for greener pastures the following year. And if the 28 members of our Spider Collective pony up more cash this offseason for transfers who end up sucking and we have another losing season, that gravy train is pulling into the station and deboarding

Keatts earned an automatic 2-year extension to 2030 with the Final Four run last year, but NC State was still willing to eat it after this year's disaster.

Thanks for the clarification. But again, you don't sign a coaching contract that you don't have the ability to get out of. We could get out of ours if we so chose too.

Yep they viewed as fluke. Tho a great fluke no doubt. He's also going to get paid what he's owed according to contact. This isn't some guy who gets fired with no severance. Can't feel too bad.

After final4 I could see being safe for 1 more year there but look at his results in acc last 7 years....8th, 6th, 9th, 15th, 6th, 10th, 16th. And there may have been some things going on behnd the scenes too idk.

And I'm not even taking issue with Moon extension after our own improbable run. Bottom line we won and won NCAA game too. But the extension this summer was management malpractice (Hallock and Hardt).

But I disagree about Moon not being safe after next year no matter what. I don't see us eating 3 years like a real program would. But I hope u r right.

I think Keatts had just a dramatic season difference that it grew a lot of concern due to fact he should have
drawn in some top notch recruits and transfers. Losing to Miami was the straw that broke the camels back.

FSU just hired a 34-year-old NBA assistant coach who's never been a head coach and never assisted in college to a 5 year deal.

also of note, Penn fired their head coach. while it's not Princeton, some might say that job would be a great fit for Mooney should he decide to get back in the Ivy someday.

The fact they can fire a men's basketball coach there would surely scare him away.

I would bet that Odom waits a year or two at VDU. He would be a better fit at UVA than NC State. Wasn't his father, Dave Odom, an assistant coach at UVA under Terry Holland?

If they don't keep Sanchez, they will get Odom
UVA's AD is on Hardt's level in my opinion. But UVA should absolutely conduct a national search for a new job, just not hand it to Sanchez, who has done nothing to distinguish himself either this year or in his stint at the head man of Charlotte.

There is no way if they conduct a national search, that Sanchez would be their top choice. But again, their AD is kinda lazy like Hardt.
