Nc central predictions/game

The concern isn't just attached to one half of a game. We tend to make teams look good shooting threes. This happens all the time and to think its coincidence is just looking with rose colored glasses - - - teams shoot well against us because we don't defend well! Last year we were 263 rd in the country in defensive FG%. 263rd!!!!
And 2 years ago I’m sure that stat was much better. I’m not judging this team based off of the first 20 minutes of the season, or based off of last year

So 2020 was better. 92nd. And 2019 we were 288 and 2018 we were 331. So in our best year, we were 92nd and in 3 of the last 4, we averaged being 294th. Thats this same team. Which year looks like the anaomoly?

I wouldn't want to judge off 20 minutes either. Can we judge off 4 years? Because that tells a pretty bleak story about our defense. So when I see it for 20 minutes looking the same against a vastly inferior opponent, I get frustrated as hell!

We have been very good defensively against the 3 the past 2 years.

We held them to 60 points, below 40% from the field, 35% from 3, had 13 steals, and forced 21 turnovers. I will take that every game no matter who we play.

We have zero bench how is it that possible???
Judging by this game big concern indeed. Let's try to just forget about this one and see what happens Friday against Utah St. As much as I have had my complaints about Mooney in general still counts as a W.

About the bench stat wise, 7 points and contributed 7 KOs of the 11 total for the team. Talented starting 5 but can't get by like Bonny last season playing most of the game considering GG's necessary rest and I believe coach will guard against Nick getting too many minutes.

Also disappointing that Jacob had to play 40 minutes. Positive about the bench was 57 minutes played equaling 28.5% but against this weak opponent can't say that counts for much.

Better second half, but still a lackluster performance from this team tonight. I think the issue is that we have all been burned to many times believing in Mooney coached teams. I sure hope this year is different, but the NCAA drought speaks for its self. And what we saw tonight was typical of our teams since Kevin Anderson left. That said, I really hope this year is different and that we finally make the tournament. Prove you can do it Mooney.

Here's Bonny and their stats. Really only went 7 deep but though a blowout were down 10 in the 1st half. Reason Adaway didn't play tonight ..... St. Bonaventure guard Jalen Adaway is suspended for tonight's opening game vs. Siena for minor NCAA rules infraction.

Good news:
1) The student section was full. Guess opening on a Tuesday night was a good idea, not as many distractions for students.
2) 10 players played. Only scholarship player that didn’t play who could have was Randolph. He wins the award for most enthusiastic bench player. Spiders could use some energy.
3) Tyler Burton had a nice looking form on free throws. Could tell he had been working in that area.
4) It was the first game.

Bad news:
1) Spiders have lots of work to do especially on defending 3 pt shot.
2) No good promotions in game program.

My observations:
1. Great stat line from Jacob
2. Bench depth was good but performance was mixed
3. Obscene number of Flying Dutchmen. Why god why?
4. I’m no expert but our defensive rotations just seem continually off. Way too many wide open guys.
5. We should never be down to NC Central (or equivalent) by 14, and certainly not in the first half. I think that’s inexcusable.
6. Glad to get the win.

Jacob put on a masterclass. His performance tonight made me buy all-in on believing in making the tourney this year

It looked to me like they were settling for jump shots, instead of driving to the basket. Once they readjusted, they did very well.

I was there last night but thought that I had bought tickets for a basketball game not a roller coaster ride. I would normally want to attribute it to first game jitters but we have how many hundreds of game experience on this roster?

We are going to get thumped when we play a legitimate team.

Don’t mind the slow start. I mean they are old men and it’s going to take them a while to get loose. Would like to see more from the bench though.
Thought the same thing about age, haha............ Hear a lot about being one of the most experienced teams, but how about ranking of average age of starters?

I feel you but we didn’t have a decent scouting report on this team. Past teams would have folded.

Just one thing worth noting, last year UCLA won the Final Four despite being down 7 to Pepperdine in the first half of their second game of the season. And then they needed 3 OT’s to win.

Sometimes good teams have bad games. Sometimes they only have a bad 15 minute stretch. Drawing a conclusion for the entire season off the first half of game one is pretty sorry

Totally agree!!

One question about missing Francis, is who is going to create the shot on this team when time is running out. Francis was the dagger man when it came to creating a shot. I don't see anyone currently I would say fits that mold except possibly Burton.

There is a craziness/weirdness to this season with so many factors that may work in UR favor, which leads to expectations. So can’t fault the guys for ultimately getting a W, but the performance didn’t give me warm, fuzzy, inspired feeling that I think we all wanted.
Agree and had the exact same feeling after our first two football games this season, both wins.

He was also good for way too many missed shots=turnovers
This is my reaction too. He was certainly willing to TAKE the shot, but it didn't always lead to the right play or winning play. Honestly, I preferred then, and prefer now, the ball in Gilly's hands.
