Mens - @ GMU Wed 1/8 7pm ESPN+

I don’t like some of this foul calls, free throws are the difference in this game and there is a huge disparity

They have more free throws because we struggle to play defense and when you struggle to stop penetration and keep your man in front of you, you end up fouling a lot!

Didn't see what happened to DLo anybody notice on court? My feed froze too for a minute.

They said foot injury for DLo. And ruled out for game. So quickly isn't the best sign.

there you see the problem on defense. Right by AP on perimeter, no one even looking to help - - all out of position and chasing and they get an and 1!

From what I've seen Nesko and Tanner have no chance out there preventing their guy getting to rim

Just watched back the footage - I think he hurt it on a drive around the 4:30 remaining mark in 2H. He played through it for a minute or two but you can see him hobbling and not putting full weight on his left leg.

we showed some good fight tonight, but we just don't have the players. Its going to be a long season still! And forget about how long if Hunt is out!!

Section 9 Grumpy again - AP has a turnover quick in the beginning of 2nd half - Mooney mad - sits him and we don't score for 7 minutes - great job Coach - prayers for Delo's foot

We are so poorly coached. Defense is horrible and end of game execution is insane. Nice long losing streak headed our way.

Late-clock situations are such an indictment on the mooney offense. Absent a Jordan King type player, we just run a normal offensive set like robots and show no sense of urgency to get an open look. Tough to watch.
Yep ugly. And agree with Philly, we have perimeter defenders that would have their parents calling me if they had been on one of my middle school travel teams :). Our players at the end is Walz holding the ball 40 feet from the basket.
Hope Hunt is ok.

They had no idea what to do on that possession down 4 with 26 secs left.

I like the O'Connor guy from the Goo Moos. Weird hair but effective, well rounded player.

We are very bad defensively……Guys blow by our perimeter guys on every closeout. AP and Neskovik together is untenable defensively. Neither one is athletic, neither one seems to have an idea what we are doing on defense and it doesn't look they even really care to try on defense.
Yes, nailed the key issue on defense. The plan this year is to out score the other team…..except Richmond doesn’t have the offense either.
down 5 why is B Artis taking a tough 2 pt jumper like that?
Good question. See next response.
Unfortunately Tyne and White are both poor shooters.
And not afraid to keep shooting and missing especially White. Of course, Mooney thinks White is the key to making this team “even better”. Has to have given him the green light and it earns the Spiders the big L.

Richmond having a shot to actually win this road game (with the insane foul disparity) shows you that you don’t have to be good to be competitive in the A10.

Nice try Spiders.

They were also much more aggressive than us, and that leads to foul opportunities.
This. GooMoos came out after halftime and went inside to their big guy every time. Then they pressed. They took control of the style of the game, even if they were bad enough to let UR hang around despite UR only scoring 1 point the first 9 minutes of the half. All of GooMoos points during that 9 minutes were at the rim or at the FT line. Aggression. UR doesn't play with it.

UR started turning the ball over against the press and reverted to missing 3s and the tone of the game changed immediately at the start of the 2nd half. I texted a UR friend early noting that while UR was winning, they were getting badly outrebounded again - a sure sign that if 3s started missing, things would go south.

Meanwhile, Moon played "I'm content/good enough" basketball from the last minute of the first half when at the 1:00 mark we got the ball with the easiest, simplest, most obvious opportunity for a 2-for-1 to end a half...and promptly allowed the team to run 27 seconds off the shot clock before shooting, leaving GooMoos 33 seconds and effectively the final shot of the half. Just run the offense 15-20 seconds and shoot at the 40 second mark!!

Are we sure he went to Princeton?

That was just an awful display of an unprepared team - that’s a reflection on coaching and strategy. Wtf were they doing waiting to run the “offense” in that situation when you need to score quickly?!

Liked the Skinn interview post game - he talked about strategy adjustment at halftime, what an interesting idea.

Things I don’t understand:

How UR goes 0-fer for almost 8 minutes.

Why CM doesn’t think it might be worthwhile to take a TO and manufacture a bucket during aforementioned 8 minute stretch.

Why UR has no urgency to shoot down two scores with 26 seconds on the clock.

I mean wtf.
