Mens - Duq @ RC - Wed 2/5 7pm ESPN+

We should be up more than 6. Feels a little uneasy going into 2nd.

Soulis looked good but still think we could use at 4 esp when Duq was hammering us on the O boards.

Spider23 will like that we weren’t tough on the guys post vcu & decided not to watch the tape yet.

Think Tbone gotta be right about the small hands.

Hope the Spids can get another W and break the losing streak

So we aren’t looking for 2 losses and a Mooney record?

B. Artis shaken up and Tyne 4 fouls…might have to burn Kirby’s redshirt to get through this one!

We were lucky we got that weak call against Neskovic when up 4 or this would be a bigger gag. Could have called travel on us w like 12 secs too up just 3. Some good things tonight but man our end game continues to stink. Maybe only matched by the end of half possession.

Wow, we have a 28-3 record against Duquesne now. If they were our arch rival, Mooney would definitely be coach for life!

Duquesne sucks, pass it on.
Good to get a win as desperately needed. Thought we did some good and better things tonight. Not to take away from a win, but Duquesne definitely sucked and probably the weakest D1 team to come to RC since Maine earlier this year. Duquesne a far cry from even the likes of say…Davidson.

Takeaways :
1 ) Spiders still not good at end of game situations. You gotta know we have 3 timeouts left when you get trapped against the press.
2) Play Soulis ! Most impactful 9 minutes I have seen by any Spider all year.
3) Notice we are better team when Tyne is sitting

Tyne has digressed from last year. He just does not play smart and a point guard needs to be mentally sharp.

Certainly sounds like GW3 will be done for the year. Nothing official, but Mooney think he's going to be out for an extended period.

Feel badly for the prez. Never really got a chance to get enough mins this season to show us his ability. Had potentially one breakout game kind of, yet Moon only really gave prez breadcrumb minutes in games that followed. This while we needed more out of our guard play. Here’s wishing him speedy recovery and more playing time next season if he returns.

The last few minutes of this game was a perfect encapsulation of what not to do against the press. Inbounding straight to the corners, Walz tossing the ball up in air, picking up the dribble immediately after crossing halfcourt, saving 3 timeouts for who knows what....

Thankfully we had built up just big enough of a lead and Duquesne stinks, or else that would have been added to the long list of collapses.

Props to the guys though for bouncing back from the embarrassing loss last weekend. A real team effort last night with contributions from nearly everyone.

Happy for you guys getting a win and especially the posters at the game! Didn't turn on game until just after second half started and for a change continued to watch until the end. Didn't look like a full house though?

Do we even work on end-of-game scenarios at all? It was like a masterclass in how to blow a 10-point lead with 1:30 left last night. Jesus. Just ridiculous. Another clear sign of coaching incompetence, and considering how often it happens to us, you'd think it would be the first and last thing addressed at practice every single day.

Happy for the W for the guys because they sorely needed one. Just really ugly. Yes, we won. We shot well, which is an anolomy for this team. The victory was more about what Duquesne offense was not. Duquesne has no formal offense to speak of, just a bunch of big guys sloppily throwing the ball around.

I think people will look at the box score and see Soulis scored 8 points and be like wow, that was impressive. His manner of play was less though in my opinion. The 3 pointer was desperation and fugly (but it went in) and he has a very low release point and generally played pretty tight on offense. Now, I do think he did some good things on defensively and I like how he set himself up lower than Walz does in our offense set (near the FT line) which I think opened up our passing lanes better. This is more where Grant/TJ operated versus where Walz sets up at the 3 point line.

End of the game closeout was atrocious. Tyne was particularly bad. But one positive thing about this team is they are a really good FT shooting team (first in the league, I believe), so you do feel confident about us hitting our FT's to close it out.

I thought Soulis looked very good, especially for a 1st year big man. looked comfortable scoring inside. blocked 3 shots. dove on the floor. and while the 3 was forced at the end of the clock, it looked pretty smooth to me.

S-man, you always grade on a curve. He seemed very robotic to me on offense, took a hook shot from the foul line as his first shot that had zero chance, the 3 was a prayer shot, his form was terrible, but yes it was forced at the end of the shot clock. That was a prayer answered.

He hasn't played much yet, so I'd like to see more and he didn't play poorly. His skill set just looked very raw to me.

In fairness, Eight, we are usually down at the end of the games, so we have much more experience with that scenario. But yeah, that was a shit show last 2 minutes. Throwing the ball to Walz in the corner, why in the world would he even be there in the first place. That is not where you want your non-balling handling center to be positioned in a full court press situation.

And how about that end of first half play we drew up...
