Mens - A10 1st Round - Wednesday 3/12 11:30 AM - USA network

Don't think I'd call that a "very open look"....it was a heavily contested 3 over a 6'10 forward. Not a great look at all in my opinion.

agree to disagree. clean line of sight. shot not affected. aren't going to get much better in that situation. he hit more closely contested shots in the game.

I dont think I really want any of our non-Dusan guys driving into size at the rim, either. we don't have many finishers.

I like D’Entremont (zero time until that Loyola game) but it was telling he was only 1 to try for rebound w game on line when O rebound still gives u a chance.

Probably bc he played 4 years where it wasn’t coached out of him.
Yes, a pathetic display.

Emotional postgame with Hunt talking about his efforts to get back on the court and Walz talking about the leaders he's had like D-Lo and the improvements they made over the year, even if it didn't show up in the results. Walz also took ownership for not doing more to slow down Bailey.

Mooney as usual with no real answers but insisting that we improved over the course of the season.

Here are the teams we beat this year along with their records to date:
Mount Olive (12-18 in D2)
Florida Tech (6-22 in D2)
Ball State (14-17)
VMI (15-19)
Maine (20-13)
GW (20-11)
UMass (12-19)
Duquesne (13-18)
Fordham (11-20)
LaSalle (13-18)

Combined record: 136-175

We beat two teams with winning records all year. Maine is actually in the America East title game, so we are a giant stain on their season.

The worse part is that None of us are surprised with yet ANOTHER game lost in the last 5 minutes.
Is Hardt even alive? What the f××k does he do other than sending out emails begging for money.

Love Mike Walz. Such raw emotion and I'm sure most of us have felt the same way about the end of a crappy team season at some point many years back during out athletic journeys. Sure hope (and do think) he will come back for senior year.

Embarrassing. 5 game losing streak to end year. 59 point combined loss to VCU. Etc etc.

Maine coach is on the RADAR btw. Even tho a loss to us this year usually means firing or retirement

Painful climb toward the 1,500-win mark for the program. Stuck on 1,499 for at least the next 8 months.

Anyone remember if we tried to get Kochera when he transferred from W&M - pretty solid contributor the last 3 years and we might have gone better than 1-2 against his old school

First half - commentators kept saying wide open 3 when Davidson lit it up. All season long. Horrible philosophy by Mooney.

Also made mention of small guards covering their much taller players. Another horrible philosophy of Mooney.

Etc, etc, etc.

Just glad the season is over. Mooney really makes it painful to watch.

I am not aware of us having been involved with Kochera. We certainly should have been, and I think GKiller said so at the time.

Good memory. I might have to take it easy on your Wicked viewing party!

Yes I was on Kochera. like bobby buckets I can spot guys we should take instead of Davidson. It's a worthless talent.

Also, do know who told me Kochera wouldn't play here?....VT4700. said he wouldn't beat out Roche.

that was the comparison I was doing in the last few minutes - Glad to see Jason graduate a Spider but assume Roche was picked by our staff over Kuchera - Kuchera was CAA rookie of the year in '21 while Roche was Southern rookie of the year in '22 and both had 3 years eligibility left in the spring of '22 - both around 6'5 etc - have to think Jason w/o many of the injuries would have had closer #s at Richmond to what Kochera did at Davidson ...

They should have shut down Reid Bailey and forced the rest of the team to beat us. Bailey had 25, Kochera had 22, and Laput had 11. No one else was even close to double figures for Davidson.

here's a very good high res video of final play...tho missing the inbounds.

We run too much of our normal O motion imo. The shot is not a bad one given the situation, it's makeable, but it's contested very well and not easy with Artis size and that length coming at u. Plus he's off balance.

But the biggest takeway is what i mentioned b4 that I saw live & u can see it clearly here. seconds left and Walz 1st instinct is to retreat, u can see him rocking back. I like Walz he's our best returning piece imo, that instinct is too ingrained by Moon philosphy. And Tanner and Tyne stand there watching too. No move to go rebound a potential miss when there's enough time for a put back or get fouled, in an elimination game. we talk about their effort....that's either lack of it OR u r coached out of instincts. Only D'Entremont our D3 player is looking to rebound.

Also did we have like no fans at the game in DC? even the "real fans" bailed. Although I think our board are the real fans. Even behind bench in our section there is nobody. Davidson has lot more. Maybe some on other side idk. i get it Wednesday matinee. I actually watched the game in a casino sportbook on a giant screen. There was 1 other person in there when it started! I figured it would be empty. & with a 11:30 start on Wednesday a lock to be up there center court. That was all glorious. But not for in person. You'd think a little more than that. not noticeable to the ivory tower anyway.

It felt to me like Roche suffered a bit from substitution fatigue where he’d miss a couple shots and then not be able to get back in the game. I also think the CM system didn’t suit him great, it’s reads to me that CM wants a certain number of passes before anyone shoots and I suspect that too often Roche passed up a more open shot earlier in the distribution and instead took contested shots later in the clock.

Purely anecdotal but just what I felt like I saw a lot of the time. And not just with him, but I think it worked against him more than most.

Always looked to me that he struggled to get open

This is what struck me too. We are "one of the best programs in the country" but we are playing at 11:30 Wednesday in a cavernous NBA arena in front of a bunch of DC-area school children who were offered a field trip to see college basketball. Look at the uniformity of the blue and yellow colors worn in the audience. They are school kids.

There are literally 2 rows of fans behind our bench and half of them probably had tickets comped by our travelling party.

Home for dinner at the house on the Wednesday of Championship Week with the season over. "One of the best programs in the country".
