Mens - A10 1st Round - Wednesday 3/12 11:30 AM - USA network

Ehh, there's a reason we are always close to winning but don't actually win. More than coincidence at this point.
I said the same thing on the men’s lacrosse board where we tend to lose close games to the elite lax teams more often than not. At some point it isn’t a matter of luck, but just the better team rising to the occasion. Like our women’s team this year winning a lot of close games or even our men’s team last year.

Is kenpom not aware how hard it is to beat a team 3 times in a season. Kenpom of all people.
I don’t think there is any statistical evidence of this theory at all, haha. Kenpom is likely very aware that it doesn’t affect win probabilities

Well, this could go one of two ways. We’re first out of the gate so we can end this nightmare quickly, or Mooney is going to do just enough to give false hope and get another 4 year extension out of this.

I know it was a joke. See St Joes women's game thread. spiderstudent17 told me it was a thing. Also Philly Bob and Ungerer busted the theory out hard during the Goo Moo postgame previewing this game.

Also fwiw Mooney said it was going to be harder to win at VCU because we had beat them the 1 game b4, the PREVIOUS year. Have to check with Kenpom. but unsurprisingly that theory never helps us. 9-27.

100%. The fact that this has been put out in our media guides at games and by Bob Black is fricking laughable. They are of course trying to put lipstick on a pig.

And the reality is while we've had some close losses, we also had 9 double digit losses, including two 40 points losses and losses by 17 and 18 to 2 Quad 4 opponents. We were 0-9 against quad 1 and 2 teams, so we didn't beat a single good team all year. We were 4-9 against Quad 3 games, so we even had a 30% winning percentage against mediocre teams and 4-3 against Quad 4 teams, barely .500 against the worst teams in D-1. We had the lowest NET of any team in the A-10.

So, trying to spin this by saying, no we really were good, we just lost a bunch of close games is just a flat out lie, no matter how you look at it.

Plus it also ignores fact that losing single digit games is the highest probability across all of college basketball. Everyone has them.
