Chris Mooney should go after an assistant who has been a big man, and has coached big men successfully.
Winiecki is an interesting one...obviously has the UR connection and lots of experience. Also seems to still be in Richmond and looking for opportunities after spending time with Stan Heath and Orlando's G-League team.
Wonder if he still has the appetite for the grind of being a college assistant at this stage of his life or if he's ready to move on.

Mooney would never hire Winiecki, who was also up for the job when Mooney got it. Brownell fired him because otherwise he was going to get fired himself after being terrible at Clemson for so long. His hand was forced there.
I dont think he was a real candidate though. So not sure that is factor, but somewhat along the same lines, it's maybe just having served under Wainwright. There is no love lost between Mooney and Wainwright, Ole Jer made some comments about Moon after he was hired that were not well received. Tho we all know Wainwright jilted Winiecki when it came to Depaul staff so maybe that connection means less or enough time has passed. As SF noted Winiecki is apparently back in Richmond and he did call a Spiders game on TV last year. Perhaps there is a relationship with Mooney idk. I'm certainly not opposed to Winiecki on staff he has experience, but I don't see it happening either.
Quick Winiecki anecdote. I ran into Wineicki during his coaching tenure at OTB on Broad, must have been the Derby. btw is that OTB still there? Anyway it was then that I realized the AD Vassallo stuff was a mess and that us not getting him due to admissions was very real. And there's no way I hit the trifecta box or anything like that either. Memories!

Joseph was an awful head coach but he wasn't ready for that role yet and it wasn't fair for him to be thrust into it the way things went down. Should be very good in this role for us. I also am stunned that someone with apparently no connection to Mooney is actually coming aboard. Amazing!
I like this hire. Give Moon some credit. Hope MOJO comes in with some good ideas and shakes things up.

We’ve posted the jobs, so it looks like Mooney won’t be trying to wing it with only one assistant.
