Lucas Taylor - 2021 Recruit

If Mooney lands Lucas, I might have to issue some public mea culpa hear about him. Those are sweet offers we are competing against.

Have not seen any sign that we're really in the mix.
Well, that eliminates any morale qualms at having to absolve myself and my previous statements about Mooney.

Seriously, though, I would love to have this kid on our roster.

We need the kids that love the idea of being part of the Gonzaga of the east. We’re beginning to find them, we just need them to say Yes!
Love your thinking here Annap. This has been a beef of mine for awhile. From the AD to Mooney down to the ball boys and message board posters, we seem have a very limited vision of what we can achieve as a program. Have to dream it and preach it to achieve it. Look at Gonzaga. Look at what VCU did for a freaking decade. Look at Dayton top 5 last year, look at SDSU top 5 last year. I think we are in a great position to make this type of move. According to 80's fan the recruiting restrictions have been removed, or loosened anyway. Queally stepped up with a beautiful practice facility. Unlike our 2011/2012 run, we are following up with nice recruiting classes so far. A little pandemic has stepped in the way, BUT every team is dealing with it too. It may just hurt us as much as anyone considering probably wiped out an NCAA appearance in '20 and if no OOC may kill chances in '21.

This is the type of player you have to sell the vision to. You want to come to Richmond and be the Gonzaga of the East, and be in the top 20 and on ESPN every season, and be a center piece scorer? Hope we get him. We really could use a shooter like this.

Is that you Danny?

To follow up my own post:

UR thinks small (don’t believe they realize it) when it comes to athletics. No question. Look at the results. Boast about facilities (they are excellent) and say all the right things – “committed to competing at the highest level and competing for championships”.

Fail to recognize that academic and athletic excellence form a powerful synergy that propels a school’s national reputation. Sets a school apart from the crowd.

Need only look 65 to 70 miles to the west to see how it is done. UVA is consistently ranked among the best public universities in the nation while also managing to rack up 24 national championships. Obvious distinctions are size and public versus private, but they have over many years recognized the synergy between academic and athletic excellence and taken the steps necessary to reap the rewards. Sadly, UR doesn’t make that level of commitment.

Totally agree with you KE. It also is worth noting that UVA has a higher graduation rate than Richmond AND their acceptance rate is lower than UR.

I will be honest when I originally looked it up I was expecting to see the opposite of that. Those numbers obviously only tell a very small part of the story but are very impressive in my eyes.

conference affiliation more than anything is what gives UVA that edge. plus it's not that hard to get into from in state. especially as an athlete.

I don't think he was saying we can replicate what UVA has done. They are an ACC school and a large state school. What he is saying is that we need to adopt their mindset about the intersection of athletics and academics and how a strong successful athletic program can lift the image of the entire university.

Our university leadership has for whatever reason not fully embraced that philosophy. That is a shame.

Lucas is almost certainly going to go P5, so I don't see any way we're in the mix, but he's announcing his commitment on the 9th.

The interesting thing about Lucas Taylor is no one really knows what his top schools are. There are multiple lists and stories listing different teams in each.

While I think he is going to pass on a few of the larger P5 team offers, I don't think that means he will pick Richmond. 247 Sports is predicting Clemson as his choice.

I saw a report today that said "with his decision to commit in the near future, Clemson, Cincinnati, Davidson and Marquette appear to be the leaders for Taylor, who is considered an excellent player on the court while also being a very good student off of it."

He has over 30 offers including, Cincinnati, Clemson, Connecticut, Ga. Tech, Marquette, Miami, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Xavier, Ole Miss, Arizona St., Vanderbilt, VCU and Richmond.

kid's a star. could see it from the 1st video. I'd say he's the most talented kid we recruited in this class. he'll do well wherever he goes.
