No, they just randomly decided to fire him a month before practice starts, for no reason.
Unlikely, but perhaps he could. The other question is would he be eligible before the spring semester?
That and the likelyhood he would have to be here Monday, makes it more than unlikely.

Bring back Karl Hobbs - much more entertaining and apparently benign. Probably Hajj Turner - associate head coach - as interim?
Really shady move by the GW brass of waiting until after kids are locked into classes for the year. They knew they were going to can this guy a few months back but wanted to avoid a mass exodus of players so they slow rolled it. That is my view. I'm sure others will not agree but something smells here.
The outside law firm they hired (after the Post article came out) just finished their investigation with unfavorable results for ML. The truth apparently, was worse than the article. GW had to fire him, especially before the investigation was leaked.
Apparently it isn't yet over and buyout attempts are not going well. OSC

I think they probably felt compelled to let the independent counsel investigation run its course. It definitely sucks for the players but I suspect they felt they had lower litigation risk if someone outside looked through this. This is one of those no win situations.
This entire situation was shady. GW had to know this was going on for a long time and frittered around hoping it would go away but it didn't. Don't understand how people like Lonergan (i.e. Assholes) get in the positions they do.
Anyone else feel that what is considered "abuse" today might be different than what it was 15 years ago? Lol Or even what might be considered abuse at another program, at Duke for instance.
I don't think they can this guy if the accusations aren't compelling. Generational comparisons of what's acceptable rarely mean much, things are viewed through today's lens, not what may or may not have been acceptable in the past.
Because he wins basketball games and is a great coach. There is not a coach in ncaa basketball that doesnt yell, scream, and demean players for poor performance or non conformity.
If they wanted to fire him for PC reasons they would have just fired him when the original article came out. They hired an outside firm, found out even worse stuff was going on than was reported in the article, and simply didn't have a choice.
At some point, can we just start calling out assholes when we see them, please? Lonergan got fired because he crossed a lot of lines that decent, normal human beings do not cross, period, the end. Spare me the PC, wussification garbage.

If you are a coach, and there is any chance that you have "blurred lines" in your understanding of what is appropriate and what is not nowadays, you need to meet with your athletic director, your Title IX person, and you need to read the NCAA manual. Ignorance, it has been proven, is no defense for inappropriate behavior.
