not after Longwood, Hampton, Oral Roberts, Duquesne or St. Bonaventure was I as frustrated and discouraged as after tonight's loss...don't get me wrong, I was plenty embarrassed after those losses too, but not like tonight...

the Explorers were a 5-14 team we had "owned" at the Robins Center for years...but when they finally caught up with about six minutes left you could begin to see our trademark collapse beginning to occur...but with help from LaSalle we did just enough to still have a chance to win with a minute remaining...

instead we had three hapless possessions that were almost comedic...if you didn't see them in person...take a look at the video clips of the final minute...

what is the record for air balls in the final minute?

what is the record for most consecutive home losses at the Robins Center?

how long can we go on like this?

Go Spiders!

Think we can all agree that if our fans were just as good as those in Iowa that we would have won this game. Unbelievable really that the fans are ruining Mooney’s legacy as the winningest coach EVER!!!

I don’t know which emojis, if any, can display the appropriate level of sarcasm (unless there is a moving van emoji)

That’s even worse than it looked in person. There were 12 seconds on the shot clock when Golden took that shot. What a lack of awareness from him and coach

To be fair, it’s hard to argue that we’d get a better shot off than that. I mean, we should, but there’s a lot of evidence that we wouldn’t.

I wasn’t able to check score until late yesterday. When I did this is what I found. Read the highlights copied below. From the AP. Smh. I don’t know what else to say. It’s just Richmond basketball right now.

La Salle was 11 of 21 at the foul line but Richmond was unable to gain ground, missing 10 of its last 11 field-goal attempts, the drought lasting more than five minutes. The Spiders took all their last five shots from behind the 3-point arc and four were airballs.

The Explorers made 6 of 8 from the line while Richmond had consecutive disorganized possessions, Grant Golden air-balling a 3 as the shot clock expired and Jacob Gilyard launching an airball from 27 feet immediately after a timeout.

That video is awful. Looked like we had no plan in the beginning, then we had no execution when there was a decent shot to take. So many of our players would not get any time on a decent team. Gustavson is not ready for all of these minutes, nor are our other freshmen and grad transfer.

it's not is he ready but who is, we don't have the experience/skills on the bench so give Andre the minutes, it will help him get the experience he needs. My bet is he will be a valuable asset to the Spiders.

I feel the same way about Solley.

Definitely had an open shot that he COULD make and it turned out to be the only shot that drew the rim.....I also think he shot it as a response to the crowd that was just about as panicked as the players. Too bad he didn't take another second to get a balanced shot off, since there was plenty of time.

Am on board with what you said.

Here we go again. This many years into Moon Man's tenure, and we are young and thin...AGAIN. Recruiting misses and too many D2 types. Repeat & repeat.

you may not think the recruits are A10 quality, I think it's more CM has never been able to develop players, they come in and leave no better and sometimes worse than they enter the program.

The problem is we only have 3 A10 level players RIGHT NOW in Golden, Gilyard, and Cayo. And each of them have their limitations. Gilyard is the best of all 3, but the problem he has is his size. He can only do so much and when teams focus on him and know he is going to try and score - they make him drive into the lane where his size becomes even more of a factor. Golden is good - but not an all league player right now. Cayo is playing great given his limitation is he can only make layups - but I will give him credit, he plays aggressive and within himself. He is not out there shooting 10 three pointers a game, he knows his game is driving and getting to the rim - but like last night at the end of a game, this one dimension is very easy to stop.

So let me add this. I think we do get a combination of A10 level recruits as well as too many players over the years that aren't. Will agree there are cases where Mooney hasn't developed some of the players, and in some cases the recruits themselves weren't A10 caliber players from the git go and weren't going to develop.

We've seen enough players transfer to D2. This would be a combination of those who 1) didn't want to sit out a year so they could play immediately and 2) D2 was a better fit for them coming out of HS, i.e. - recruiting misses.
