JMU to the Sun Belt?

Davidson and Duquesne... Both seem to be a little more interested in football lately, though I know that's all relative to their situations. But the Dukes actually showed nicely a few years ago in the playoffs and have been there more often than us since 2015.
Bring back A10 football!
Or can the A10 trade them La Salle and Fordham (in all other sports) in exchange for sponsoring football?

Fordham
Rhode Island
Richmond
Duquense
Dayton
Davidson
Villanova
Delaware
William and Mary
UMASS
Georgetown
Elon

Completely impossible considering only 3 A10 schools offer the full FCS allotment. UMASS is decaying as a FBS indy, Duquense I think only offers 40, while Davidson and Dayton are essentially d3 programs offering no scholarships so they would have to upgrade. And some of the other teams are full CAA members. America East would have to start football for something tectonic to happen so well just be in a weakened CAA with JMUs departure. I wouldn't mind being in a conference that looked like this once every would shake out.

The CAA just needs Richmond, W&M, and Delaware to get back to being perennial top 20 programs. Add that to Villanova and that gives us 4 really good teams. Throw some of the other teams that are solid most years (Maine, New Hampshire, Elon) and and we are fine. But we are not even close to doing our part.

Let’s be honest the CAA needs us to be the team that picks it up in order to carry the league. The CAA has been the best when we are at our best. The league has been run by jmu and no one else has really competed with them. There is no reason for us to be where we are and with jmu likely leaving it’s time to rise up and take over this league. This next coaching hire is gonna be critical.

Tech to the CAA?????
At the rate tech is going right now they may not win the CAA. I was talking with some of my friends this past week and said to ask themselves this question; if tech was in the FCS would they win a national title? My vote is I have no idea, I wouldn’t trust them to beat NDSU or jmu right now. The fact that that’s an answer is a fireable offense for Justin Fuente. In all seriousness this Richmond needs to rise up in the league, no excuses.

I had to look. He said the following:
“So, there’s going to be some transition, there’s no doubt, because believe me, you’re not going to be playing Richmond anymore. You’re going to be playing some good teams."

I mean I hate to say it but he ain't wrong. Maybe 6 years ago that would be an insult but certainly nothing false about that statement unfortunately. He also was spot on calling out the NCAA not making FCS more attractive and causing teams to jump to FBS.

It came across as "the schools that will be in the sunbelt had so much better teams during my time at JMU than Richmond during my time at JMU" to me...

As soon as JMU announces it's leaving, it becomes ineligible for CAA championships. Not sure how this would impact football, or whether they are going to be able to negotiate a soft landing that will allow them maintain their eligibility for the entire school year, but that will be fun to watch...

Never seen that happen to any other school in a different sport...

JMU has already lost the conference title, because it lost to Villanova. Villanova would have to lose 2, before JMU can claim the title. IMHO, the CAA should let JMU compete for the conference championship. JMU can't win it.

The Pukes will get an At Large Bid if they can't be conference champions. I doubt they care.

Might CAA have more than just a JMU backfill issue on its hands? Kind of surprised Elon and Charleston would do it considering they just moved from SoCon to CAA less than a decade ago and JMU leaving doesn't hugely change the calculus, especially for CofC which doesn't have the football angle. But if it happens, CAA will be down to seven full members.

Actually makes sense for those schools to cut travel costs. It’ll keep happening.

That's a big part of why the CAA wanted to expand and go to divisions...Charleston, Elon, UNCW, W&M, Towson, and potentially UNCG would be manageable and probably similar to SoCon footprint.

Hampton and Howard mentioned as possible candidates for CAA expansion. Howard leaving the MEAC may be the final nail in the coffin for them as a conference unless some CIAA schools move up. As much as I would hate to see the MEAC collapse the thoughts of Hampton and Howard in the CAA entice me for a few reasons at least over adding more north eastern schools. Easy road trips for fans and families. Great traditions at both schools and would be interesting to see how they would do in a conference that is more attractive to potential recruits. Hampton was once a very strong program, if they could return to their late 90s/early 2000s form that would be huge for the CAA. Howard is a strong academic program, in DC with larger endowments than many CAA football schools.

Keith Gill living high on the hog. Sun Belt comes out of this better than any Group of 5 conferences. And he’s on the men’s selection committee! (1 reason we don’t want to be near bubble but solidly in). meanwhile our prize was Hardt the Regatta Captain. Gill looking at Richmond & John Jabba Hardt laughing haha suckers!

the “east” side of sun belt is a pretty good landing spot for jmu. Don’t think they could do any better. The west I wouldn’t want much part of but even in football they might rarely if ever play them. With 8 teams on each side u got 7 built in regional games. Frankly at some point the Sun belt East should break away and add couple more teams.

Bring them in for the bands. No other reason necessary.
Felt that was an obvious perk but yea Robins stadium games would be festive with the bands there. Just think if they were in the CAA there would be a chance for them to become solid programs being able to recruit in a stronger conference and help contribute. Personally I think what makes college football great are regional games that allow fans to travel and allow for festive atmospheres. Loved going to the 05 playoff game and winning @#2 ranked Hampton in the playoffs. I knew then Clawson was something special.

C-USA looking to stay true to its name as it wants to bring in independents to backfill...Liberty, UConn, and New Mexico State.

JMU's board has just approved moving to the Sun Belt, so now it goes to the state.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. Pretty sad that 2015 will likely be the last time we ever beat jmu as a conference rival. I would have never believed that if you told me that back then. Thanks a lot Huesman. Not sure when jmu is going up but I’m sure it’s soon so we’re not likely to beat them before the move.

For any of you that attended that 2005 game at Hampton, that was the first night of Spider, “Moo Da Chains”. So sad that has been lost since our train wreck this year. At Villanova this year we came alive with new parents until the collapse with 5 minutes left. Took me two weeks to get my voice back, and have never strained it since that game.

I wonder if the CAA will do to JMU what it did to Richmond Basketball, when the Spiders announced that they would be switching to the A-10 after the season.....

We have nothing in common with these large state universities: Delaware, Rhody, Maine etc. While everyone is jumping conferences, we should align with mid-Atlantic/southern based schools similar in size & mission. How about a FB only conference : UR, W&M, VMI, Elon, Citadel, Furman, Wofford ? Add one or two more ?
