RECRUITING AREAS

Charlie Fisher enters his second year as associate head coach at the University of Richmond in 2015 and his first as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

“Charlie has a very impressive resume and background, having spent over 30 years at a variety of different levels across the country in college football,” commented head coach Danny Rocco at the time of Fisher's hiring. “He most extensive time was at Vanderbilt University and most recently he was the quarterback coach at Penn State University for the last two seasons. We are very excited to welcome Charlie and his wife Julie and their family into our program.”

Entering the 2015 season, Fisher was promoted to offensive coordinator and switched to the quarterbacks coach after overseeing the wide receivers in 2014.

In his first season in 2014, Fisher helped Richmond have the first pair of 1,000-yard wide receivers in program history. WR Reggie Diggs had 85 receptions for 1,157 yards and seven touchdowns, while WR Brian Brown totaled 79 catches for 1,089 yards and four scores. For their efforts, Diggs was named Second-Team All-CAA, while Brown was named third-team all-conference.

Fisher comes to Richmond after serving as the quarterbacks coach at Penn State for the past two seasons under the direction of former Nittany Lions head coach Bill O’Brien. At Penn State, Fisher coached freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg to 2013 Big-10 Freshman of the Year honors and senior quarterback Matt McGloin to a Burlsworth Trophy in 2012.

With over 30 years of college coaching experience, Fisher has produced 54 All-Conference honorees, five national award nominees and eight All-Americans. His most extensive stay was at Vanderbilt University from 2002-2010 where he worked with the 2005 SEC Player of the Year Jay Cutler as the passing game coordinator. Fisher served as co-pass game coordinator his last five seasons and the wide receivers coach the final seven years.

Fisher is no stranger to the FCS, as he helped Eastern Kentucky win a national title in 1982.

He served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Temple (2000-02) and was the receivers coach at North Carolina State (1998-99), helping develop Wolfpack and NFL standouts Torry Holt and Koren Robinson. Holt was the 1998 ACC Player of the Year and the No. 6 pick in the 1999 NFL Draft, while Robinson was the 1999 ACC Rookie of the Year and played eight years in the NFL.

Fisher was head coach at West Georgia from 1991-98, earning a 67.9 winning percentage and leading the school to its first Gulf South Conference championship in 1997. Former New York Giants wide receiver Ron Dixon was among the players he developed at West Georgia. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Lenoir-Rhyne from 1985-91.

A 1981 graduate of Springfield College, Fisher played quarterback and wide receiver from 1977-80. He also lettered as a shortstop in baseball. He earned his B.S. in physical education. Fisher earned a M.A. in sports management from Eastern Kentucky in 1984. He served as a graduate assistant at both EKU and Ole Miss.

Fisher and his wife, Julie, have two sons: Brian and Brett.

Coach Fisher may have one of the most interesting and crucial positions on the staff...

he replaces Coach Streeter at the helm of the offensive strategy and works to develop a reliable and effective starting QB from the group of much less experienced returning QBs...

success against both of these challenges will probably determine to a large degree our chances to compete for a CAA Championship or FCS Playoff bid...

Good luck for a great season...
