i watched Yale and Wichita State play, and tallest player may have been 6'8 but they played
great team defense. So do we have to have 7 footers? No, just fundamentally strong
players who know how to box out, put two hands on the ball and most of all, move your feet and
cut off the dribbler. Greg Marshall plays in your face defense that is smothering against a big
Arizona team.

In conclusion we have a team made of big guards and forwards who are quick and do the above,
then I think we would be very successful.

Love the Shockers D. At one point 15 mins left n the 2nd half Zona had something like 25 points.

loved the Baylor players explanation of how Yale out rebounded them -- basically -- they went up and grabbed the ball with two hands, and pulled it down, they got more of them than we did so they out rebounded us

I watched Princeton play Tech, and even though Princeton had a style and players similar to our system, Tech ended up pounding the ball inside and winning that way. If you think back on all the times we lost in the NCAAs or lost an OOC game to a Power 5 team, we ended up getting dominated inside by one or more opposing big men. That is part of why I think a European type of big (a Sabonis or Karnowski type of player) would be a good get for us and would fit our system of play.

There have been a few times in our program history where we won despite the presence of a dominating opposing big man (Barkely at Auburn, Ezeli at Vanderbilt, Robinson at Navy, JaJuan Johnson at Purdue, etc.) but few and far between.

I'd be open to having tall guys that played sound basketball.
Yes, Mo I would prefer players with length that give us a presence inside. But the point is if we were not that fortunate to have that than
I want our players to have the fundamental know-how to box out, hustle for rebounds and be able to secure the ball when they get it.
Second point is we had players this year who could jump and had length, but I feel lacked good fundamental positioning and boxing out
skills. If we did that well then we may have gotten more over the back calls instead of losing out to an offensive rebound.

Kee, no disagreement here at all, for can go back and look at loses to Mount St Mary's, Kansas, Duke, etc... in the NCAAs and in all cases we were dominated inside. The recruiting issue
comes to available big men with size and skill. May be Europe, Australia is the only area we can draw from since the USA market may be too competitive. Again the key point in my mind
is having your players trained to do a better job of moving their feet, boxing out and securing the ball, regardless of height

I agree partially, did you Domanatas (whatever his last name) tear up Seton Hall. It's amazing that European big men seem to have the skill so many US big men don't. Seton couldn't deal with his height.

European big men practice moves and FT's. They also know where the basket is behind them, like TJ does, most in U.S. have to turn around and find it. Also US bigs are determined to put the ball on the floor to set up for the "ShowOff" play.

TJC plays a lot like a typical European big. To me Sabonis has the skill, the size, the athleticism, and "attitude" to be a dominant player in college b-ball. Doubt he will last 4 years at Zaga, the NBA will be calling.

And the answer from Stephen F Austin is
5'9"
5'11"
6'4"
6'5"
6'7"

Yes, not over, but...

SFA is reminding me of Crocodile Dundee as they tell WVU...

"That's not a steal, THIS is a steal..."

# 0 , Thomas Walkup is the kind of redhead we need. 33 points, 19-20 free throws, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and 1 block. Not to mention a bitchin beard.

Not bad for a 6'4" center ;)

Can't argue. Lost my argument about rebounding to fan2011 and now have lost my height argument to you. Maybe I should pick a fight with tbone, he seems pretty feisty lately.

The SFA fighting "Kendall Anthonys"...
Wow, SFA was really good tonight! The best team defense I have seen all year. Looked like 5 Khwan Fore's of varying heights all over the floor. They rebounded extremely well also even with smaller players.

Maybe you shouldn't bet against these guys in the first game...

Generally speaking, I'm a lover, not a fighter. But I've been a bit dyspeptic this week.
