Hamlin

UR should have given time for the legal system to sort this out. Don't punish on accusation (indictment) rather than conviction. Did not the Duke lacrosse "rape case" teach us that? Wasn't that a slam dunk too in the early stages?

Not speaking to whether I or you believe Mr.Hamlin is guilty or not, but the process. As we speak, Mr. Hamlin is as innocent of a crime as you or I.

IIRC, the Duke LAX players who were accused of raping the stripper were expelled from the school, and were then reinstated when the accusations were proven to be false.

If one of our rivals had a player who was arrested for the same thing, and he wasn't expelled from the school, we would all be complaining about how soft his punishment was, and how if that happened here, he would be tossed out of school.

yep. what UR does to him is not even in the same neighborhood as to what he faces in court. also, in the duke case, you had an out of control DA with an agenda, along with a duke faculty who did convict without due process. they should have been held accountable too but were not. that was a very unique case there based entirely on race and not facts and the folks there should always have a black eye for what they did.

To be analogous to the Duke Lacrosse case the Duke players would have been caught in the act with the strippers. That did not happen and was a false accusation. In this case an individual was caught in the act of receipt of a package that contained an illegal substance. Guess the only defense is he could claim he did not know what was in the package, but considering the "street value" that defense would on its face present a weak case.

Why is he not facing Federal charges? One is not supposed to use the interstate mail system to ship illegal drugs. Also, the last time I heard, possession and distribution of this substance is against Federal law.
I wanted to follow-up on this. Marijuana is Schedule 1 drug. "Schedule I drugs are the most dangerous drugs of all the drug schedules with potentially severe psychological or physical dependence. Some examples of Schedule I drugs are: heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), marijuana (cannabis)."

Also, "the use, possession, sale, cultivation, and transportation of cannabis (marijuana) in the United States under federal law is illegal"

For those of you who like to read, I recommend "It's Not About The Truth" by Don Yaeger - the best book written on the Duke Lacrosse incident. In my opinion, administrators should have been disciplined and 88 faculty members should have been reprimanded. Let's hope our leaders never screw up anything that badly.

FWIW, 3 ounces(not pounds) may be a big deal in VA where it is a felony to possess more than an ounce, but in many of the more enlightened states that have legalized recreational marijuana, two or three ounces for recreation use is permitted. Hell, DC allows two ounces.
3 lbs is an entirely different matter.
Just sayin...

Saw this coming, I know someone who works in the campus mail facility, got all the details last week. What he did was really dumb...
Did he have it delivered at the campus post office? Were the arresting officers our favorite Keystone Kops? If so, it is pretty sad that he can't outwit those guys.

Really don't think we want alleged drug dealers outwitting law enforcement.

It seems like there is an immediate rush to judgment here. What proof is there Hamlin requested that this box be mailed to him or for that matter even knew what was in it?

I suppose somebody could have sent $15K+ worth of pot to him without him knowing, but that seems awfully unlikely.

The judicial system will sort it out but it is kind of like having the "get away" car found in your driveway. Not that it couldn't happen, just fairly unlikely.............................

By now, they have his cell phone and text messages. They also probably have his admissions.

If he is guilty then let's hope it is just him involved vs other team mates. Just wonder if the shipper was under suspicion and they were
following his shipments or if post office uses drug dogs or what. When you ship something ilegal through the USPS how do they catch
illegal items? Just curious since I use UPS.

did he by chance hang out with Mo and other vcu hoopesters?

no matter what they say for public consumption (no pun intended) , behind the curtain, am sure they are all holding their breath, as are we.

Ha Ha Medical Stuff but mostly equipment, no medications. Stonewall had a specialty medical rental business at
one time and shipped daily.I just wonder how USPS and the DEA work together to catch drug shipments.

I had a DME client in that field. I was wondering if it was something nefarious.

Charges certified against former Spiders' tailback Jeremiah Hamlin

A judge on Wednesday certified felony marijuana distribution charges against Jeremiah Hamlin, a former University of Richmond tailback, who waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

The charges, which include felony distribution of drugs near a school, will be considered by a Richmond Circuit Court grand jury in March. Hamlin and his attorney, Craig Cooley, declined comment after Wednesday's appearance in Richmond General District Court.

Hamlin, who came to UR from Jacksonville, Fla., and Fork Union Military Academy, was arrested on Oct. 29 on campus by UR police. UR announced on Nov. 6 that Hamlin had withdrawn from school.

Hamlin, 5-foot-10 and 221 pounds, carried 31 times for 115 yards in seven games last season as a sophomore. He was the third tailback behind seniors Jacobi Green and Seth Fisher. Hamlin was projected to be UR's top ball carrier next season.

As you well know, Craig Cooley is a top flight defense attorney. Also was a pretty good tennis player back in the day.

I thought his first choice was unusual, I felt it may have been a family or friend conncetion

Craig was the defense atty when i sat on a murder trial jury in henrico a while back and did an outstanding job, in my mind.

Craig Cooley is usually named one of the top three defense attorneys in Richmond. Hopefully, he can earn his hourly wage helping out this kid. Then it is up to Jeremiah to git'r'done once the whole thing is settled.

am just plain lucky, did my time inside the joint, learned and moved on
