I have a feeling Grant will be getting a decent amount of time next year. I think Wood and Cline each get 30 minutes a game next year which leaves at least 20 minutes to split between Grant and Friendshuh.

very possible CM expects Grant to be an immediate contributor. would explain the lack of urgency in filling another big spot.

Thanks for the post. Drove from Ellicott City to attend the Goretti game. Had the pleasure to talk briefly with Grant prior to the game: a nice young man, well spoken, polite and can really play basketball. It was a memorable experience. Look forward to Grant donning a Spider uniform. OSC

38 rebounds in 3 games??? Staff will have to red shirt him to have time to break that bad habit.

Wow, those are some awesome stats for Grant (and his brother) over the past 20 days! At first I thought that Grant's numbers were dipping a bit, but he seems to be getting stronger as the season progresses. Could we have three incoming guys (or even 4 if Andre joins in) who average over 20 points and over 10 rebounds per game? Nick and DeMonte seem headed towards 26/27 PPG and 10 RPG and Grant now looks like he is sniffing 20 and 10.... Andre is also improving as the year goes on, so watch out... The sky could be the limit if we an close the deal with Andre Wesson. Great fun could be less than a year away!

Here is a brief look at the Golden boys. Grant gets a rebound and dribbles down the court. Both Grant and Bryce are in the video. Sorry for the random shot. Just had my iPhone and took a couple of 10-20 sec clips. Next time will try to do better. OSC

You can see Grant and Bryce walking back up the court after Grant is called for the charge. OSC

That is a lot of expectations to put on a freshman big man. When is the last time a freshman big came in and made an immediate high level impact for us? Geriot is the only one I can think of and that was partially because the cupboard was bare.

Cupboard has fallen off the wall now. He will play, if for no other reason we will need his 5 fouls.

someday you might learn the difference between the posts that get deleted and the ones that can remain

It would be a lot easier if there were some written guidelines. I, for one, cannot tell where the line falls between that which is allowed to be posted and that which is prohibited from being posted, or why a post that falls into the latter category is deleted.
Is it tied to a yawn by certain other posters? Or, is something that the imaginary 12 year-old might find offensive?
You'd think that a lawyer might get this.

Yawn is the signal to delete the post above it.

Mo, yes that is Grant. Unfortunately, I just happened to record at that time. He had actuallly been playing really great. This was the longest of two clips. I do think that you can see his mobility for a 6'10" guy and you can see Bryce as well. OSC

Listed in the article at 6'10" which is what I've seen him listed in similar articles at, so bigger than his VC or Scout profile. Another interesting note, like RunDMB, he was injured his junior year so may not have garnered the interest he might otherwise have gotten.

I said it before, I think GG will be the surprise of this freshman group and get a lot of minutes next year at 4/5 opposite TJ.

pretty awesome article, right? he sounds a lot like TJ, a great high post who can handle, pass, step outside and shoot, and also bang inside. I know we haven't had many bigs who are ready to contribute early as freshmen but Grant might be the one. If Paul's also ready to be a piece, then we're really in much better shape than I was thinking not long ago.

goes without saying that I'm hoping Bryce joins in a couple years to rekindle the high/low game with big bro!

Agreed. Sounds like a high basketball IQ guy. Watching De'monte play, he definitely has a high basketball IQ as well. And then throw in the leading scorer in Virginia basketball history.

Still need to make sure our final 2 scholarship go to players who can play, but even I can't find fault with the first 3 members of this class.

Agreed, they all look pretty solid. No one knows how guys will work out until they actually play for us, but none of these guys feels like a reach or like we were settling for a system guy.

I do agree we don't want a couple of warm bodies filling the other two spots. I think the coaches need to claw and scratch to fill those open scholarships with guys who are going to set a major tone for future recruiting.

I hadn't really thought much about it, but if we don't land Wesson and or Ford/some other target what's the chance that schollie just doesn't get filled. I feel like with a good class already in place that would be a better option than a reach who transfers out next year.

We get three more schollies next year anyway.

While I'm not a fan of offering guys that we think there's a decent chance will transfer, I can see some logic in taking a chance on an under the radar guy. I'm not a fan of having multiple projects though. I would like to think we have enough capability to get players who can legitimately play and enough class not to open a revolving door to guys we push out due to insufficient skill/talent.

if we don't land Wesson or Ford, I'd think the pickings would be slim from guys that aren't committed and we haven't been really involved with. at that point, I'd be most interested in transfers like the NC State brothers. won't help next year but neither would most late committing freshmen. I'm still doubtful about the whole grad transfer thing.

Let's see how it plays out but seriously we can just keep leaving scholarships open. It should be a bare minimum qualification of the job to recruit 13 scholarship players who have a legitimate chance at playing in the league. CM has not done that each of the past 2 years now, whether that be via roster filling with guys who can't play at our level or giving schollies to walk-ons.

In no way shape or form, should he get a pass this year. As K, pointed out we have 3 scholarships to fill next year, as well, so if he can't get 5 players this year, what makes anyone think he can get them next year. Wade brought in 5 players after he was hired last year about this time, this isn't rocket science if you know what you are doing.

97, pretty much humbly disagree. Most programs, including Duke, seldom fill all their scholarships. Why would you when only 8 or 9 players ever see much action? It is best to have a free schollie or two in case a much sought after transfer or de-commit becomes available. OSC

Nobody in the A10 has 13 A10 quality players on their team.
