GMU game thread - we win at home

Sounds like I was lucky to miss this one. Mooney coached teams don't normally finish well.

Probably another coincidence, or maybe bad luck.
When a team consistently digs holes and plays from behind, it takes lots of physical and mental energy to scratch back. Things have not gone our way except with few exceptions in this recurring scenario. Sloppy play or breakdowns at the end should surprise no one. Of course bad interior defense, wide open 3’s, and critical misses at foul line set up much of the need for comeback. And in the end, it wasn’t going to happen…again. This unfortunately has been a team persona this year.

Not sure about that.
Next season will be Zay’s 4th of 29 games or more and none were 2021 (the Covid year I believe).
He has one. Just checked with my source 🫣 I thought he got a medical redshirt and Covid yr. But he has 1.

Didn’t know if there was a strange medical exception. Did he miss 2018-2019 & 2020-2021 from medical?

There's a difference bt not having tickets available and a sell out...the former seems to be our situation most times vs actual sellouts.
Well, giving away free tickets helped the stock of my tickets go up. Anyone who still wanted to go after the freebies were given out paid a premium. Sold my tickets for $75 each.

Had to be Mason fans.

Malpractice Mooney must have jumped Thomas' arse after playing Noyes 20+ minutes last game. Another game like the last one would make it crystal clear that Noyes' playing time had been mismanaged all year. Can't have that.

Guess we shouldn't expect to see him in the A-10 tournament either.

For a team with a lot of experience, they were terrible all season at end of game situations. The one that worked (Roche 3) came off a busted play. It was hard to tell exactly what happened today, but looks like MFG just lost the handle

I couldn’t see what happened live, but it looks even worse than I thought. An unforced turnover - yikes.

Plays like that one at the end of the game kind of define you as a team. CM teams have a troubling history of not executing those, and today was certainly an example of that.

The one thing you can’t do in that scenario is give GooMoos the ball back with time to make a play. Yet we did.

Rats..I should've held out for more!!!!

Goose scored 8. He went 3 for 3 and had two FT's. He is shooting 48% from the field and 37.5% from 3. He is one of our best players this year.
I don’t think he’s one of our best players on the year but he certainly wasn’t the reason we showed poorly yesterday. I think he also had four steals.

So if we scored 2 more baskets in regulation every game, what would our record be?

Anyone have any ideas how we could have done that?

Just read O’Connor’s column on the GMU game. I have great respect for Burton- as a player and young man. His comment regarding the late game miscue with Grace where Tyler accepted full responsibility is pure class. It’s the second time I’ve read quotes from him about his performance and his willingness to accept ownership for what he considered was his poor play. His teammates must love playing with him and the absence of a “super star” ego.

Because Goose played 37. 37! 🤮
:) Watched on TV and Spiders got back into game from 1) CROWD getting LOUD and 2) Goose SINGLEHANDEDLY disrupting the GM offense. That said over the long haul more offensive was needed from the 2 guard(s) for this team to do as well as we expected.

Last season we had other starters who provided more points than this squad to combat Goose's limited offense. Off hand I might compare Goose's career production to that of Trey Davis. Though years from now fans probably will think a lot more positive of Goose's play with "Goose, Goose" etc etc while Trey being a guy who couldn't shoot a lick.

PA, after Wednesday's performance we all expected more time for Noyes but for some reason never materialized.

Thanks for the heads-up. It was a good article. I pay $1 per month for the digital version (I may be overpaying).

can you summarize what Tyler said about the last turnover? My impression upon watching it was that he cut to the ball far too early and when Grace did his usual spin dribble toward the corner, Tyler was already there causing the jam up. It was a very loose spin dribble by Grace but usually the corner guy waits and at least fakes the backdoor cut to keep the defense honest and set up the handoff.

That said, the failure to use the previous 10 seconds to run normal offensive motion to force the defense to defend allows them to basically find Tyler and try to deny him the ball knowing it's coming to him. Same old same old.

Does anyone recall from the Syracuse game if Peter Thomas was the one who designed that disastrous final play of regulation? I feel like I remember that being said, though I may be wrong.

regarding lineups and scoring, Goose played great final 10 minutes, deserved to be in there every second. Randolph had some great energy but also some mistakes albeit aggressive mistakes. However Goose 8 points, Marcus 5 points, why the Noyes backers are targeting Goose is silly for yesterday's game. But if you want more change on the wings maybe Goose at PG and play Roche more in an off/def. sub rotation with Marcus, and find more time for Noyes in first 30 minutes of game? I don't argue with sticking with the 6 guys who brought you back though, but I like Roche in there on last offensive set as a threat that has to be guarded and pulls defenders toward them, potentially creating openings for others. I actually like he and Tyler as an off ball pick action for one another that could cause defensive mistakes and get one of them an open shot.

don't worry now that we know Buffalo Wild Wings opens early in Brooklyn for next March, the athletic staff can take the next 12 months off. All is well.

I skipped the game and took a weekend trip to the mountains with the family instead. Looks like I made the right call.

We only have a chance against bad teams and even then it's a toss up. Sad state of affairs.

Next season will be worse, the beat goes on.
Inquiring minds want to know the following:

Where will be projected next season by coaches and media?

Will we finish 4 years in a row below projected expectations?

Will we finish higher or lower than a 12 seed like this year?

I’m assuming next year we can bypass starting a Top 4 Seed Thread?

11, yes, lower, correct.
