Where do you get the 142 I've seen two numbers one 185 the other 213? Regardless we have no post season hopes
That 142 post was from a year ago.

We're sitting around 220 right now.

URI probably has a 35% chance to win the auto-bid, followed by Davidson with ~15% I would guess. I would put our chances closer to 1-2%

Don't go all math on me.... I will up the Spiders to 37%. 1-2% phooey!

I use that site for one of my vices. It has worked out pretty well for me $. I think that chart looks pretty spot on given where we are in the season...except for SBU which seems a little generous from eye test...but that is what their fairly strong algorithm spit out. If UR continues to win, it is fun to watch that number for a-10 champ go-up and dream “what if?!?”and depressing now and if UR starts losing again.

Sorry Mooney fans, been on vacation had to listen to the broadcast on my phone, had no time to bump.... so here it is, bump!

Remember cyclical, and we are in the early stages of a cycle.....bump ditty bump...

This thread life may surpass Morris twins Kansas fight and the "potential signing" of the player we thought we would get but he went to a different school, left there and I think played a year at Kansas? Fortunately for me I have forgotten his name.

I can't let you go on forgetting Andrew White III.

One would think it would be "impossible" to forget his name, but I had managed, and then you helped me "remember". I will start working on "forgetting" again, but knowing his name I recall seeing him visiting the Robins Center during a game along with his dad.

He just got another two years. Need to see results this year before that. Also getting a 10 year deal only gives less motivation.

From the UNI game notes...

• Wednesday will be Chris Mooney’s 500th game at Richmond. Mooney will be the 19th active D-I head coach to coach in 500 or more games at his current school. Next in line to join the 500-game club is UNI’s Ben Jacobson. Wednesday will be his 470th game coaching the Panthers.

• Mooney will be the 14th active head coach who has coached at least 500 games and won at least 55 percent of them at his current school, joining Randy Bennett (St. Mary’s), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Mike Brey (Notre Dame), Scott Drew (Baylor), Mark Few (Gonzaga), Leonard Hamilton (Florida St), Tom Izzo (Michigan St), Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Bob McKillop (Davidson), Matt Painter (Purdue), Bill Self (Kansas), Roy Williams (UNC), and Jay Wright Villanova).

Mooney will get an extension after this season that will likely take the term of his deal to 5 years, maybe 6. Under normal circumstances - I would also say a raise would be in order, but given the fact that the athletic department was begging for money to the tune of 750K earlier this month - I don't think it will be in the cards this year for Mooney.
What is more likely to happen is I could see his name popping up for other jobs - but will be the key factor is how much are these other schools willing to spend to not only fire their current coach (and likely pay out the rest of the contract term) but also hire a new coach. Wichita State is an interesting case - they are a program that has become a regular in the NCAA tourney recently. Yet - they now have to pay Mashall 7.75 million over the next 6 years and pay a new coach, likely around 1 million a year if they want anyone respectable for their level and expectations. Do they have that cash? What are the optics of using money in that way now that we have been through a pandemic? It will be interesting to watch.

Wichita was paying Marshall $3.5 million a year. They can afford to pay his buyout plus a couple million a year for a new coach and still come out ahead. Of course, they need to have a similar level of success under a new coach in order to sustain it.

Mooney once said "you don't run from happiness".
but the timing could be right for him now with a strong season last year and a ranked team now. while I'm happy with our pipeline, we do graduate a ton of talent this year ... assuming they don't choose to come back for the extra season. so we'll see.

tough to turn down a big job. it doesn't work out for everyone, but Beilein and Shaka are a couple of examples of guys who "ran from happiness" and succeeded ... and made the kind of bank that sets your family up for generations.

I agree - Mooney has a good deal at UR and gets paid very well. But looking at our roster - even though I like Burton a lot, next year is a rebuild year, and maybe the year after as well. Weir is having issues and can't even suit up and Wilson is limited in minutes likely because of what players are ahead of him and he is not ready. So next 2 years - a lot of inexperience on the roster with Mooney and as we have seen in the past - those don't mix well with Mooney and success. He does well with an experienced roster that has spent multiple years together. Like we saw with our back to back NCAA appearances and like you are seeing this year and last year. Roster full of junior of seniors who played a lot together since frosh/soph year.

Agree that IF he were looking to leave, this could be a year to do it, but I just don't think it's a real possibility. And if it were, Wichita is the last place he would go, even for $3M a year.

Where is the belief that none of our seniors are going to return coming from? Many players stay for 5 years -- including 3 of our seniors. Why wouldn't Gilyard want to break the all time career steals record and go back to the NCAA tournament in a normal year? Why wouldn't Cayo want to have a dominating season and another trip back to the NCAA tournament? And why assume none of the 5th year students wouldn't want to continue their graduate education and play more basketball on a great team? I would expect 2+ of them to return.

because they can get out there and start earning some serious dollars playing professional ball. not that difficult to understand

Well, the European leagues will be calling. And while those paydays are not the NBA they are still no joke for a kid out of college. In the Spanish League the majority of players make between $250k-500k. Same goes for Turkey as well. The Italian league is in the $180-250k range. German league varies a lot between $100-350k.

Another year in college sounds great, but these guys would be turning down a payday abroad that could seriously help them and their families.

they certainly could come back and work on their masters if they want to. I'm just not expecting it. I don't see this group of seniors benefiting basketball-wise from the extra year as much as a kid who had been buried behind players. these guys are all multi-year starters.

Having those seniors return as you mentioned assumes the NCAA will let them? Right By my understanding right now Cayo, Gilyard, Golden, and Francis. I could see Sherod being granted an extra year because of the injury, but that is 50/50. The NCAA is not going to suspend this season - because they need and want the money of the NCAA tourney. It may result in only the bigger names and schools with money surviving enough protocols to actually make it - but I don't think they care about that. They just want a tourney - no matter what.
I don't think Wichita State is a good fit - just a good example of a school paying their current coach 7.75 million NOT to Coach. And now they got to hire a new one. All while in the middle of a pandemic when money is supposed to be "tight".
Only reason I could see Mooney leaving is if he gets an ubelievable offer. Something close to 2 million a year for 5 years. He could take that job - and even if he fails he can retire and say this is it - and have an extra 5 million in his pocket he would not have at UR. But I think if he plans on coaching longer term - I think he sticks around UR and this is his spot for years to come.

Mooney isn't going anywhere. Even if he were to be sought by another program, Mooney isn't leaving Richmond. He's got a nice gravy train going here and he knows it, he isn't built for the stress of a BCS program. He knows that too.

The only reason Mooney would entertain other offers would be to increase his leverage here. Hardt would be wise to call any bluffs from Mooney on the extension. We all know what a fat and happy Mooney looks like and it does not lead to a healthy program.

If he rebuilds the roster after this year successfully, I would then be on board for a further contract extension discussion.
