Is this a double banner year. A Kenpom Top 100 banner and 3 place in the A-10 regular season. So much better than an NCAA tournament banner.Third in the A10, best recruiting class in years...all you need to know - don't be sore give him 5 more!

Hate to burst your bubble but Mooney isn't getting a contract extension. Now if we win the NCAA tournament and he wins a game or two in the tourney this year, maybe that equation will change, but right now the his odds of any contract extension are slim and none. Slim will remain out of the building until he delivers an NCAA bid.
If we win the NCAA tournament I'm guessing he'll get an extension.
Really? I won't say I'd be shocked but I would be flabbergasted. With a capital F. I don't dislike CM to the extent that others do, but I side with the belief that our trajectory doesn't warrant extending anything until we start making the NCAA with at least a modicum of regularity.I would bet he gets an extension if any of the following occur.
1) COY in the A10.
2) Win the A10 tourney
3) Make the final four of the NIT
I also tempted to say he gets an extension if Cline wins POY and Buckingham gets ROY. Or if we just make the A10 finals. Based on the recent articles and administration believing the future is bright I have a feeling they will give him a short extension - maybe 2 more years.
Somewhere else.If he wins the NCAA tournament he will get a lifetime contract.
While a Mooney skeptic, I give him good marks for the changes he has made this year resulting in the teams performance , especially the A-10 road record(versus prior years disasters) but we need keep this in perspective. We are 2-7 against top 100 teams with both of our wins coming at home(RI- STB). I wish him the best but am not convinced he's our best choice especially based on his 12 year record and his contract. As far as him moving to a P5 team, I can't imagine a fan base who would be excited about his hire based on his performance here.Well then, let's start our runs in the NCAA with this year. While many are looking at which teams we don't want to play early, I would think that every other team in the tournament does not want to play Richmond. Sure, we could lay an egg and lose but we are playing so well right now. We have only lost to 3 league teams and been great on the road. Crush St. Louie on Saturday and we go into the tourney with a lot of MO. GO SPIDERS!

Dark side of the moon remoteAnd the only leverage Mooney has is if a P5 program comes sniffing around and as 9 legs says, the chances of that are pretty damn remote.
5-13 is a losing record and doesnt mean you get a contract extension.
As to Inexperience in the A-10
Team/Experience/Bench Minutes (rank out of 351)
VCU 210/88
SJU 223/298
SLU 228/337
DU 230/257
UM 249/262
UD 300/247
GMU 335/345
UR 340/331
That's a lot of teams with players trying to learn what to do.
My predictions: Mooney is right to say we have a young team... (we will continue to be cyclical, lets get real it's U of R basketball). Next year we will win 20+ games, go to the NIT and all will be right with the world (not with this board). In two years we make the dance. So either sell your tickets to some new fans or get on board and turn that frown upside down.....Heard it here first!
I'm not disagreeing with you, I only want to point out that winning 20 games is not all that it used to be. Most teams are playing 32 to 35/36 games a year now so winning 20 isn't a whole lot better than .500
If you go 20 and 15 and go to the Nit then yes I consider that just a little better than a .500 season. We've been there too many times recently.Going .500 is only 1 game away from a losing season. Are you saying you consider a 20 win season only marginally better than a .500 season?

This is the kind of math you learn at VT.If you go 20 and 15 and go to the Nit then yes I consider that just a little better than a .500 season. We've been there too many times recently.
Personally, I prefer 22-11 or 24-12 by May 1...I don't know about you guys, but I actually really enjoy watching our team win and do not enjoy watching our team lose at all. Adding 5 wins to a season (15-15 to 20-10) makes it much, much more enjoyable for me. It makes a huge difference personally.
By May 1? So that includes A-10 Tourney and any other postseason. My point was that 20 wins is no longer a significant total. 20-13 is a NIT bubble team.
As to 22-11 or 24-12, I believe we would have to collect a couple of forfeits for that to happen.
And ....alas....my dream has always been for the Spiders to cut down the nets after winning the Final Four................guess I'll just keep on dreaming.................
I hope you know that every board is like this, it isn't just ours. I could only imagine what the vcu board is like right now with their delusional fans!If that happened this board would have to shut down...wouldn't be anything to complain about.....
