2024 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - Elon Phoenix

Elon's stadium reminds me of what ours could be without the track. We could berm the College Drive end of the field.

Coleman looked sharp and used all his receivers. Nick draws a lot of attention and gives
a lot of open looks to others. Also OL the last two games has looked good and announcers
kept talking about their push. On defense I thought this was overall our best tackling game
and the front four put a lot of pressure on the QB and did not get pushed around.

One of the stadiums that the committee visited before building Robins. Wofford was another.

Solid game yesterday in most areas. Converted some short yardage situations and failed on a couple. First and goal inside the eight and settled for FG in first half and failed to convert on two 4th quarter third and less than two yards to maintain possession. Offense otherwise played well with some creative play calling. Drive to end first half and opening drive of second half were excellent. I continue to be impressed with the depth of quality talent on this roster. Our 5th DE, RFreshman, Hodges played great and will only get better. We were much the better team yesterday. We do have an issue with injuries mounting but hope to get most back from yesterday for Deleware in three weeks. Hopefully we can take care of business next week early in game and get our starters off the field.

Did they open their eyes when they were there and see they didn't have a track?
Can't answer that question as I was not on the committee. The only stadium that they visited that had a track I believe was Villanova. I agree with you that the track should have been moved.

Elon had a nice game day experience yesterday as usual. It was Family Weekend but lots of events going on all around stadium with a lot of excitement for a 1-3 team. Marching band and large dance team was impressive as usual. Their stadium definitely is a better football venue as many have pointed out due to no track. I also like their seating arrangement of a large home side to accommodate the majority of the alumni, home fans and students and then a smaller visiting side to take care of any overflow of fans. I think we lose a lot of our home field atmosphere with our fans split on two sides. That being said we are still the better program and team and that is what matters most.

CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week
CJ Fraser, R-Fr., CB, Richmond (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch)

Fraser recorded a career-high nine tackles, 0.5 TFL’s, a forced fumble and an interception in Richmond’s 27-17 victory at Elon. Making his fourth start, the freshman more than doubled his tackles total from the season. The interception was the first of his career and one of three turnovers forced by the Spiders in the game.

,Burn the red shirt! Ride the horse for the rest of the season!
Just a thought more than opinion, and I do not care what they do as coaches as long as the team is in the best position to win this year, but also in the future. Burning the Coleman redshirt puts Wickersham in a position to redshirt himself. The result of that if he/they choose to do so gives Spiders two starting level QBs with two years left each. Of course, Coleman could redshirt another year down the line, but then you have the same situation as this year. It is not my business one way or the other, but maybe Coleman was promised or wants a redshirt year, if possible, to obtain a master's degree. If Wickersham can lead the team to the playoffs, so be it. If Coleman is needed to get there use him and I feel sure the coaches will consider the options and needs to make that happen.

Having Wickersham for two years and Coleman three, gives incoming Jack Callaghan a redshirt year and two years as backup to Coleman if he does not win the starting job. Redshirting at this level of FB is huge, and Huesman is clear he wants to build the program from HS recruits and plug in needs via portal.

Statistics show they are both pretty even and Wickersham has the FBS game involved. Yes, Coleman might be a bit better on the deep ball, but as far as Wickersham being a run first QB, with the improvement in the run game of late, I do not see that situation being an issue of necessity in the future. Palmer-Smith is now 13th in the nation with 493 yards rushing. Good on him and the OL.
I also see a WR room that has made great improvement over the last two or three games and is now multi-threatening, not just one option that could get open.

I honestly have far more concern about Spiders getting healthier on the DL right now than who starts at QB. I have not heard if any of the three DL guys that went out injured last week are coming back. The two deep shows Spiders are down three DEs and a DT from previous two-deeps this year and Hoilette will not be back for sure.

Spiders need to win this game and be glad for a bye week to get healthy or get young guys ready to go in two-deep the second half of season.
