It is game day. This team has character and strength. They have survived COVID, near death experiences, and broken bodies. They have grown strong. The day is here. Seize the initiative. Break the barriers within you and step beyond. Greatness awaits as you overcome.

Anyone know if Francis is playing? I assume Golden is out for rest of NIT, but thought Francis might have had time to heal.

Per Bob Black and Chris Mooney, Golden is definitely out for the rest of the NIT. Francis may see some action, but it will be limited. Francis is still in a great deal of pain. Bob Black noted that it was a deep bone bruise. Golden could make his injury worse by playing. Francis would not make his injury worse just by playing.

It is redemption time for these guys. It is little consolation but they have a chance to at least do something special together as a team. They are traveling to Texas, playing a big name SEC school. We need Francis to give us what he can. As spiderman says, he is a warrior.

Pulling hard for these guys. This would be another feather in the cap and we should take what we can get out of this year. Two wins against the SEC would be a solid accomplishment.

Go Spiders!

Big is the key word.
I believe they are 6th in the NCAA in inches on the court per minute...

Didn't spot Blake in this...doesn't mean he's not doing the walkthrough though, obviously.

I agree with above about Francis. If he can't play normal minutes, then don't play him at all. Let others get the minutes and get into the flow of the game.

If this was the NCAA - I would have different opinion, but given this is a scaled down NIT event, I think better to give other guys the minutes at this point and see what you got moving forward.

It is up to Mooney and Francis how much he plays and what contributions he could make.. Tough to imagine him not wanting to be on the court even if it is for limited minutes,

I don’t really understand this sentiment. We’re still playing. Are you saying that you don’t think Francis can help us win more than the guys who would replace him, or that you would rather practice for next season than try to win tonight?

Is a 75% Francis better than 100% Wilson or Dji is I guess the question. To me, if Francis is not healthy enough to start than he is not a healthy enough to play.

yeah, I agree with this. I don't know the percentages, but you play the guys who give you the best chance to win. if Blake at whatever percentage isn't as effective as Isaiah and Dji, then don't play him. I don't see how limiting Blake's minutes or bringing him off the bench would be better for his effectiveness either. he's ready to go or he isn't. it's not about gutting it out. he took a bad fall and he may not be able to go.

Trap seems more ready to develop guys and see what we have. I'm not ready to do that. play to win. clearly Isaiah and Dji are developing in practice. they're looking better and better. Matt and Sal are looking better too. this is a big challenge for them.

I did not think Mooney handled Grant's injury very well. Grant gave it a go, but was clearly very ineffective on the defensive end against St. Louis, but Mooney did not adjust.

For that reason, I would not want a hobbled and ineffective Blake to play. I'd love a non-hobbled, and effective Blake to play, but that looks to be out the window.

Agreed. If he's not healthy, don't play him. If he can help us, for 15 or 40 minutes, play him. I'm not interested in spending time and effort to be in a postseason tournament if we're just going to use it as a glorified practice for next year. (Which I don't think we are doing.) Play to win, no matter what.

Agree. And if he's healthy enough to play, I'll take his minutes and potential over not having him in there. His value added seems more than others taking his minutes. Do what we can to win.

Strangest Box Score I've ever seen.
Francis isn't playing and has an offensive rebound.
While Weir is 0 for 1 from the field.

Going to be a tough game for Cayo. Miss St. is too big/strong for him to really bully his way down low. They’re forcing some bad shots instead of giving up easy bunnies that Cayo usually gets backing someone down.

We are not playing well at all. Luckily, so far, Miss St. is playing worse.

Playing harder defense than we have in a long time. Jake is his old self again without Blake on the court. He realizes that we need his offense. MSU is not a very good team. This is a game we should win, even without Grant and Blake. So far so good.
