Forecast for VCU

I hadn’t seen this or the A10 scoring lists before. Two thoughts:

Gilyard and Golden are awesome. Love the confirmation.

It’s perplexing that we can have 2 of the top scorers in the league and have he record we have...
3....

Fire that guy please. Can't have 3 of the top 20 players in the league and not expect to have a winning record. He's not a good coach. He's not good for the A10 and he's certainly not good for RVA.

I'm happy to explain my post.

For the first part - In the 2014 tournament VCU blew a 4 point lead to Stephen F. Austin with 3 seconds left in the game. VCU blowing that game makes me laugh very hard whenever I think of it.

The second part - The last 4 times that VCU has made the tournament they have lost in the first round. That also makes me laugh.

For the third part - If I were a VCU fan and we were making the tournament every year I would be tired of all of the first round exits in recent years, that is all.
One can never get tired of making the dance. It's a big deal.

You're going full CNN on me here by winning the argument I never made. I said I would be tired of losing in the first round so many times.
Losing in the first round isn't such a terrible thing. I can live with getting to that 1st round game 8 of 9 years. No ________. Just the facts. Mods, he made me do it!

At least you served up Kansas for us in 2011. I was certainly wishing for the UR VCU matchup back then. Losing in the first round isn't such a terrible thing. I can live with getting to that 1st round game 8 of 9 years. No CNN. Just the facts. Mods, he made me do it!

Can't a guy blindly hate his rival in peace anymore without them trying to ruin everything for him :(

Then stop baiting me. Please. I'm a rival but I am not the enemy.

If you guys had won I'd be the first one here to say congratulations and good game. Sorry for the Kansas comment. I should be better than that. FIFY.

If my team didn't make the tournament any of those years I would probably be less incline to laugh. But I agree that success breeds increased expectations.

We beat Oregon St in the first round in 2016 but did lose in the first round in 2017 to St Mary’s.

So, been to the NCAA six times after the Final Four run and we’ve won a game in three of those years.

I guess getting a 50% at VCU gets you further than getting a 50% at Richmond

Can we just stop this! VCU has a program that I for one would love to have at UR. Unfortunately, not the case. Do I wish Coach Mooney could be the guy to take us there? Hell yes! But come on, it’s been eight years of nothing and these last two have been just plain awful. It’s time to move on, a new direction.

VCU was a "favorite," i.e. wearing home white in only 2 tournaments out of the last 9 appearances. A "W" against Akron, then lost to the favorite (#4 seeded Michigan, in Detroit) in the next round. The other appearance was your previously mentioned SFA game. Expectations have risen, but that's your only valid point. I'm not quite sure what the expectations are at UR anymore, but they have to be more than this.

Can we please take this vcu tournament appearances thread to the vcu board. For goodness sakes.

As Ronald Reagan would say "there you go again" Why can't you admit that Gilyard is the top scorer in A10 play. Will it kill you to say something nice about a current player or do they have to transfer first?

You're discounting all of the games played in November and December. What's next, say Golden is the NCAA leading shot blocker in games that happen on the weekend with a starting time of 6PM or later?

First of all I want to keep the focus on Gilyard who I think has a good shot at making first team A10 for the season.

If you want to compare players in the A-10 it is much more accurate to look at stats from games played in conference where each team is playing a similar, but not exact scheduled. T is why the A10 website updates the leaders in various categories in A10 play and why each team also shows in conference stats on their website. I would think the in conference stats are heavily weighted in determining who makes the all A10 team at the end of the season.

I think that’s fine, you may just need to say “he’s leading the conference in scoring during A10 play.”

I don’t think anyone’s contesting Jacobs play is noteworthy.

I am too. I’m also 100% confident that whatever they’re practicing in practice isn’t working in actual games.
They may not be practicing foul shots under pressure... we used to be required to step up to the line and hit two for two or the entire team ran shuttles. Something is wrong, year after year, players coming and going, and this continues.

Here’s the deal Choppin. You’re constantly using big vocabulary words,
Constantly? Examples, please.
making fun of people's grammar and spelling,
Constantly? Examples, please.
calling people liars (you called me one multiple times this week)
Once you stop making stuff up, I'll stop calling you out on it. Jussie Smollett really disliked being called out, too. I don't think I've called anyone else a "liar."
and I find you to be just an overall bully. It is time someone called you out.
I'm sorry you feel that way, truly. I'll just say that anyone that knows me or our mission would find that statement incredibly ironic.

You have a signature that insinuates that if there was a good basketball program there would be money flowing from you their way. That’s obviously not the case if you give close to nothing to the University and you don’t buy tickets. You should either eliminate your signature or change it to "Just shut up, give us other peoples money" It sounds like that would be more accurate.
Dude, I just explained my signature. It insinuates no such thing. Besides, I don't need to hint at it, since I've already been clear and direct about my stance to Hardt, IMG, this forum, my associates, etc. I'm not rubbing elbows with Queally, so I'm well aware that we're not being heard. But it's the only vote I have. This obsession with level of giving seems aligned with those who think if your seats in the RC are above the concourse, you're not a #realfan.

I'd be happy to talk to you about it at a football, baseball or lacrosse game. I'll even buy your ticket.

BTW, you still haven't liked the comment about Gilyard leading the A10 in scoring. Is that because it is only in A10 games?
No, it's because it was a poorly written and vague post.

I'm sure most of the forum is bored of this, and I'm going to move on. Disingenuous people really get under my skin (obviously) too much, and I need to let it go. I'm going to take a little break from you before I get myself banned. It's less than two weeks until decision time. Looking forward to listening to Black and Drew on the Ides of March.

P.S. Jacob is awesome.

I personally could care less about any post season awards individual players receive. I am a fan of Spiders basketball, the team. Only care about team success and it has been abysmal both years that the forementioned players have been on the team.

Getting back to the actual VCU game...I don't think I've seen it mentioned on this thread, but I loved seeing Julius stand up to that VCU player after they got tangled up (looked like JJ got hit in the head). I've been critical of him at times, but one thing I can definitely say about him is he does not back down. Wish the whole team had some more of that spunk.

Congrats to VCU on an A10 regular season championship. Wow, that is a program. It is really very very impressive how they hit a home run on the coaching hire time after time. Well done.
It is remarkable that Rhoades came to VCU had one rebuilding year and has them back to winning A-10 championships and getting at large bids. Meanwhile, here we sit in the 8th year of our rebuild finishing 10th in what could be a one bid league.

I don't like VCU but I respect their program immensely. I love Richmond but have no respect for our program.

And its just more facts that fly in the face of: "Well, who are you going to get?" Look across town, they brought in a new guy every year. They started the Villa7 thing, which put them right up front looking at promising coaches. Richmond just sits on its hands and plays scared. Or maybe it's just Queally pulling strings for his buddy. Same result either way. The beat goes on. Wait till next year.

I’ve never had so much respect for VCU and their program as well. Their front office has a winning mentality and so do their fans. They would never be okay with just “competing”.

See Bucknell.
