There is no doubt there was good fortune involved. Dukes being without their leading scorer was the first factor in UR’s favor.I disagree with the assertation that we got lucky….
That was big W….Down by 8, finishing on a 12-2 run to close the game. That is clutch.
The possession arrow being in UR’s direction on the inadvertent whistle was the second factor. There is no doubt the DU player walked and turned the ball over, but that has nothing to do with why the Spiders got the ball. The last foul by Quinn was also a bit fortunate as his hug was not deemed to be flagrant. I am not implying that it was, but it could have been ruled as such as it is a judgement call. Interestingly, there is no such thing as an intentional foul in the current rule book, only flagrant fouls. Last, it was fortunate that Clarke blew his FTs and that his intentional miss had a better chance of breaking the backboard than Spider fans hearts.
All that being said, the Spiders did have to play clutch basketball and outscore DU 12-2 as also pointed out. So I am not saying the reason the Spiders won was luck, but a number of things were fortunate.
