FCS schools are required to sponsor at least 14 sports, while FBS schools are required to sponsor at least 16.

Of course, with another antitrust lawsuit or a blown-up NCAA that too could go away, but that's the rule for now.

Just another avenue or reason for these schools to break off from the NCAA. Why are you forcing us to sponsor so many sports when we can't financially do so? Let us sponsor what we feel is appropriate given our financial position at our University - that will be the argument put forth by some lawyer.
