We have our first transfer pickup - DePaul G David Thomas (previously played at Mercer in '23-24). 6'1 G, should have 2 years left.

Averaged 3.7 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 15 minutes/game this season, but had solid numbers as a freshman at Mercer - 11.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Career 36% from three and shot 40% on almost 3 attempts per game his freshman year.

I wonder when he had time to visit or if he visited. DePaul played yesterday and Thomas played 28 minutes and had 11 points.

Here’s a highlight tape from Mercer. Couldn’t find one with DePaul.

ha what did I tell u yesterday - often we get guys that r not publicly known.

I wouldn't focus too much on public reports, although we can't dismiss visits.

crazy that he presumably visited while still playing at Depaul. They did have a big gap between the Crown tourney but still.

Impressive season for a freshman coming in at any level. but why so little role at Depaul who is the worst power conf team traditionally...like close to every year. red flag?

Their coach probably just forgot to put him in.

Some interesting get to know David items on Mercer's profile page:

Also got a good number at Depaul:

His 24/7 recruiting profile shows an offer from LSU, then GA State, Tenn Tech and Mercer?

we ignore red flags here!

That would seem to be the case. Would have thought if we had additional guys entering the portal they would have put their name out already.
So looks like one from portal plus another to come from portal plus 3 freshmen, rest of scholarship guys, and 2 walk ons? That’s the makeup? Not looking too promising next season.

I’m in Chicago and my buddy played at DePaul. he’s heavily involved with the program (was a top
50 recruit to Miami and transferred to DePaul for 3 years in the 2000’s ) and said “he’s ok, nothing special” we shall see. He knows lots about hoops. Maybe Mooney found a diamond in the rough lol
Yep hard to tell with this guy. Funny how I see articles where he was listed at 6'4, but he does not look that tall on highlights. Depaul lists at 6'1. So probably a 6 footer, but does look strong.

Did well at Mercer, but not as much at Depaul, so maybe the A10 is more like Mercer? I mean Aidan Maheny was all world at St Mary's then not so much at UCONN and Big East.

Seems worth a shot if we do have 3-4 more slots - but the way moon operates those probably will not open up until after our targets have signed elsewhere.

Wait, what? He did not start and averaged 3 points per game on a DePaul team that was 14-20, 4-16. 39 assists, 39 turnovers. Seriously? Another reason to be optimistic.

Could be a diamond in the rough or possibly impact player, but what you posted certainly should make us wonder. The assists to turnover ratio is concerning. On the face of it, he doesn’t look like skill level of Bigelow or King.

I'm going to rush out and renew my forever season tickets because of our "sensible" approach and because this young man might be a diamond in the rough. It does happen every 7 or 8 years! (See blind squirrel...)

If Mooney wants to test the limits of how much rope Queally is gonna give him, this is a good first step.

We better have additional spots. Otherwise, we should probably just start the 3 freshmen and 2 redshirts. If only 1 spot left, we need to add a proven 3 point guy, give him the green light, and let him make 100+ 3s.

I concur welcome back. Have u thought yet about a different coach picking the players? Spitballing.

I assume at least 1-2 of the freshmen will be redshirting. Same reasons from this past season. But Moon can still run the nextbestclass narrative even with a couple shirts.
