If I start the thread, will that help?

NCAA medical committee recommending against allowing fans...

Given these considerations, coupled with a more unfavorable outcome of COVID-19 in older adults – especially those with underlying chronic medical conditions – we recommend against sporting events open to the public. We do believe sport events can take place with only essential personnel and limited family attendance, and this protects our players, employees, and fans.

Mark Emmert just announced the tournament will be played without fan attendance.

And here we go...no fans allowed. Essential staff and limited family only.

I wonder if they are going to close off the conference tourneys starting tomorrow as well. For those screaming hoax, do you really think the NCAA would forgo tens/hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue over a hoax. No, this is serious. We aren't all going to die or anything but it has the capacity to overwhelm our healthcare system quickly and that needs to be prevented at all costs.

This is total bullshit. Buses and trains are running, grocery stores are open, airliners are flying. There are thousands of places more crowded than sporting events. I almost don't even care if we make the tournament or not.

I guess if you dont have a fallout shelter you're gonna die...

Rick, I love you man, but this is just the tip of the iceberg. It is a large public venue with thousands of people. If one person walks with coronavirus (and they might not even have symptoms yet), how many people could they infect and then how many people could those people infect.

I would urge you to look at what is happening in Italy. Some of their hospitals have gotten overrun in a matter of days and people are being triaged and not given proper care because they don't have enough doctors and beds.

This is what can happen if this things get out of control. I don't like this reality right now either, this sucks for players, fans, and everyone but this simply has to be done now to protect public health and hopefully get in front of this before it spreads to the point where we we can't control it.

Ricky is an old school alchemist with no science background except maybe an elementary school course of earth rocks.I can only guess what color hat he wears.

Gotta figure NIT will be canceled.

Postponing the tournament would be interesting. I have to say that now I’d much rather make the tourney next year than this year if we could only choose between one.

Screw it.....I'm going.

I just won't bring this:

Words can not convey the absolute absurdity of this. And its a month long tournament.

Just cancel it for god sake.

Imagine the FF without any fans? Its comical.

I know... no politics

MOD: BUT YOU COULDN'T HELP YOURSELF...

I just realized if they postpone it for one month I might actually be able to go...

Championship Game 5/11

What has just begun is the media generated hysteria. You are very right we are in a very dangerous place right now not at all from the virus but from this hysteria. Of course, there will be more cases and as that happens of course the media will create more and more hysterics and more and more people will be frightened and more and more "orders" will be placed to close things, and more and more businesses will shutdown and the economy will collapse even more.

We are only at the beginning, but not of the virus doing any serious societal harm, but the hysteria. If you don't see that 97, I dont know what to say.

I have been to every final four since 2009 when UNC wiped the floor with everyone. Will be very sad to not be able to attend this year and have that streak broken

Also in sports news. The first professional player has been confirmed to have contracted coronavirus. A player for Juventus in Italy is confirmed to have it.

The A10 Commissioner has said that the conference is currently having a meeting regarding the A10 tournament status. Would not be surprised to see it also played without fans

I did not know that the internet was littered with so many infectious disease experts. All I know is if Wal-Mart is giving paid sick leave to their employees there is no reason not to take an abundance of caution (Not panic). Our medical system is at risk of being overwhelmed and as much as this f!#$#ing sucks. I say this as a Spider fan that planned on going to where the NCAAs sent us should we have made it.

So what exactly is the plan to slow down/stop the virus? Keep everyone with it self-quarantined until it is no longer transmittable? Haven't change anything with my lifestyle, yet! All I know Walmart's anything medical supplies shelves are bare.

I think thats a given. Do u think anyone is willing to go against mass group think? Not a chance they decide to play w fans.

I guess that makes u happy Plydogg. Nw all of your fears are confirmed since one athlete has gotten it. Congrats!!

Sadly for you though, he wont die but likely will be back on the field in two weeks completely healthy.

This is an incredibly inappropriate thing for you to say. I know we don’t see eye to eye but this is just such an incredibly awful thing to say.

Since there will be no fans at NCAAs, I wonder if there is any advantage to playing conference tournament without fans. Maybe it would give players time to adjust???

Also hope it stays at no fans vs cancellation. Would definitely be bad luck if you get in to a cancelled tournament.

Of course, if they cancel fast enough maybe there isn’t even a Selection show and then all the bracketologists can claim perfect brackets (joke font).

Give "Pardon the Interruption" the credit for this thought - one of the things missing will be when the packed arena gets behind the underdog. Remember well in Cole Field House when 15 seed Spiders knocked off 2 seed Syracuse and the cheering for the Spiders became more widespread and louder the closer it got to the end of the game.

True... it won't even seem like a real basketball game. Just cancel the damn thing.

I wonder if We will be told if anyone contracts the virus at any of the many conference tournament games being played today. Of course no one will care. It doesnt matter what actually happens, its the fear of the possibility that matters most.

The NBA has suspended their season
after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz tested positive for coronavirus.
