Coaching incompetence

Hardt's email today says this about our basketball season:
"While the team’s results have been uneven, its work ethic, preparation, and attention to detail have been steady, and the most important stretch of the season — which ends with the A-10 Championship in Washington, DC, site of UR’s 2022 Atlantic 10 title — is yet to come."

I guess that's another way to say: "We're 5-14 against D1 competition after giving another extension to our CFL."

does consistently bad mean uneven?

Even would make more sense.

He came out of hibernation? Thought we had another six weeks to go.

Nothing Hardt said is factually incorrect. On the other hand, it’s a bunch of feel good fluff. This is about all he can say. He’s not going to admit to an implosion this year following last year’s success.

True. For Q, Hardt, and Mooney it’s just another year and on to next year. Nothing will change within admin and in the program. Only hope is that redshirts, recruits, and what we pick up in portal is better than this year.

Hardt is a complete disgrace. Incompetence to the highest degree. What a line of rubbish he id drawing. Does he think UR supporters are falling for nonsense like that? Making such a childish statement shows how little respect he has for the fanbase.

Hardts going to stick to the same mantra no matter what. He is very happy to be at a small school with very few rabid fans where he can just hide in his office.
How do you know? How many rabid fans does a school need to steer the AD. ? I refer you back to
soccer and the Bobby Ukrop fiasco.
One rabid fan can make a lot of noise.

What are you talking about???
And also, thanks for bringing back up the thread about moons incompetence. You are your own worst enemy.
I wasn’t bringing back anything. I was just asking a question about your statement that we didn’t have
enough rabid fans. Which you seem not to want to answer,
I didn’t know that I should be concerned about my posts.

New addition to the coaching incompetence list: having a walk on be one of your best players yet you keep him glued to the bench until the last couple weeks of the season.

Thanks for the bump Annapo!
Well, billboard, maybe you’re sharp enough to realize that my question was an aside from all of the other statements on this thread. Apparently, 23 isn’t. He just wanted to start trouble.

Fwiw, I don’t really understand your question/point either.

Are you suggesting that our AD is movable by some small but loud contingent? Or a specific individual if they’re influential enough?

I am suggesting that a very wealthy, rabid fan, who has done a lot for our athletic department in anonymity, could
indeed affect Hardt’s thinking. 23 suggested that we don’t have enough rabid fans because we are a small
university so Hardt feels safe doing nothing.
I wasn’t trying to start anything. I thought I was just continuing a conversation started be 23, challenging
his premise.

Yep everybody else just wants to start trouble but poor little ol Annapo, the mildest fan of the poor little ol Spiders (but the BIGGEST fan of professional loser Moonie) is totally innocent and never starts anything.

I wouldn't say most of his work was done in anonymity, in fact quite the opposite. But you are correct, that a certain rabid fan has Hardt's ear. I think he has more than his ear though, I think he owns him in his entirety.

The few remaining fans can be described as rabid. The rest of the former rabid fan base has been anesthetized by the current state of incompetency. We really don’t know what the fan base could be. We do know what it once was.
To this point, I know a good handful of alumni who were some of UR's most rabid fans that have thrown in the towel completely. I bet we all know a few as well.

Among my core group of UR friends who live in town, I know of one who still has season tickets and maybe two others who still attend a decent number of games a year. It was probably 10 a decade or so ago. Life gets in the way, of course, but if we were consistently winning, I'd say three-quarters of that group would be attending a bunch of games.

I've been to one half of basketball at the RC this year myself. In 30+ years before now, I've probably never been to fewer than 5 games.

what about the "we'll just get new fans". wasn't that the strategy of Philly Bob and Matt Smith? That's real dicey when u look at student attendance over the years. u r more likley to be a supporter or go to games post college if u went to them in college. we've had our moments for sure but overall it's trended down.

And judging from student attendance this year, they are not creating new fans from our current crop of student. Will be interesting to see if the students show up for the VCU game en-masse. They haven't been showing up all year.

I think the Davidson game they honored all of the student athletes on the honor roll/deans list and so the student section was fairly full, but the vast majority left after half time. That was a particularly pathetic lack of support for your fellow student athletes, regardless of how bad the team is.

Noted. I actually think you’re in agreement then. I don’t think our fan base is particularly”loud” and I believe that 23s point was that barring Hardt listening to someone like PQ, not much is going to happen with our current coach.

PQ is no loser. He didn’t get to where he is by just accepting average results! He is a competitor and will do all he can to be successful. My guess is he is tired of Mooney’s love and Hardt ! Hope we can expect things to change soon🏀🕸️🕷️

As you well know, I have no problem starting trouble.
I hope they fire Mooney and we’ll see how little you know.
You and your buddy never have answers . Fire Mooney, fire Mooney, fire Mooney and then what?

hire someone that hasn't proven to us over a 20 year period that they suck?

Also this proves that you think the results of the past 20 years are the best poor little ol Richmond could ever hope to achieve which is truly pathetic.

Did you say these things the last few years as we won the A-10 Tournament and followed by the A-10 Conference Championship?
You probably did, in your little ol’ brain.

Jordan King was an anomaly in Mooney’s recruiting in the portal. CM needs a few years with
most players to develop them. I also question the recruiting ability of his staff which falls under
Mooney’s leadership. From first to bottom feeder, now that is something to be proud of. Let’s face it
in Mooney’s 20 years in the A10 UR has been for the majority of the time a lower half to middle of the pack
team with rare glimpses of te top four.

The regular season championship was fools gold and the A10 tournament win was a once in a lifetime miracle run fueled by a bunch of 5th and 6th year players that were only allowed to exist in the first place due to covid. You want to talk about all the other years or just focus on 2-3 out of 20? We all know the answer to that though. Head back in the sand now, go on.

There are those who look at body of work, and there are those who justify or rationalize based upon pockets of time periods. We all know who on this site cling to short term gold. Additionally momentum is a consideration. After winning reg season last year, we have regressed terribly. Is that an anomaly, or is it part of CM’s long term picture?

I just can never get over this thinking. Every single year, there are any number of programs that make coaching hires and bring in a great young coach with a proven track record in a smaller program and they make an immediate impact. Hell, how many times has VCU done this very thing, during Mooney's tenure and immediately zoomed right past Mooney.

Yes, we could make a bad hire, but we have everything else lined up to be successful, great conference, great facilities, MBB is our flagship, wealthy sugar daddy donor. All of these great things to prop up a guy with a .55% winning percentage over 20 years. who is basically a .500 coach.
