CBS Sports Rankings

i'm not offended by those rankings. there's probably a bit of a shampoo effect for teams who were either good last year or have been historically, but it's not crazy.

Maybe Fordham will surprise one of these years...

I've got my lantern and pitchfork and am on the road to the CBSSports.com headquarters. Anyone know where that is, BTW? Could take me awhile otherwise.

We need to go out and prove it on the court. I would rather be ranked low by these rankings that do not count - to motivate the team. Not that I think they need added motivation, but still we need to prove it on the court.

Spider23, I'm with you 100%, rank us 351st, and let's win a national championship.

I agree that these rankings don't mean anything, however, there are a couple of things I got from them.

1. It seems that there is a lot of inconsistency in how "experts" seem to view our team. For example, we are not in Lunardi's first NCAA bracket. However, in another article, we were projected to win the A-10. CollegeMadness has us #43 and this article has us at #64. Yes, none of this matters, but why such variability? I think it's that our team is not one that analysts focus on as much, and so depending on their familiarity with Richmond and the A-10, they have a different perception of how good we are going to be.

2. It's reaffirming what we already knew, but our OOC schedule and even regular season schedule is very good. Possibilities for an at-large bid certainly exist.

On a related note, any word on that last OOC game? Are we sticking with just 30 games this year?

Let's take this from media perspective based on last year. Lose KO and Zo and have basically 5 untested first year players being eligible. MW had one game against Duke that showed what he could do, but his stats were not earth shattering for 2 years. Deon and Trey are anomalies on offense with only SJ, Terry and TJ proven scorers. We are at the stage as a team of "prove it or show me". That is OK with me for I rather have these guys play with a chip on their shoulder vs over confidence.

Agree with what is said here. When one adds that UR has been an infrequent visitor to the NCAA tournament under Mooney, the facts make the lower predictions logical and reasonable.

The mix of talent, experience, and what we believe are higher level newcomers should make this an NCAA year for the Spiders. Recent history and common sense would tell those who can see thru the blinders that attainment of that goal is not a certainty.

As stated by others, prove it on the court. Hope that there is a bit of a shoulder chip, could help win some close games.

This is the year we have all been talking about and waiting for, plus with the departure of Havoc at Broad Street Junior College, we really should be an NCAA team. Our recent history has us getting close a couple of times without the cigar. Hence, the pubbies all have us sitting around the bubble instead of being solidly inside it. We just need to let our play do the talking. If we have a decent OOC performance, and win 20 or more games before the NCAA's, we should be in.

Thanks, urmite. Looks good. Would be nice to knock off the Mountaineers to advance to the championship game of the Las Vegas tourney. Roll Spide! OSC

If we can come out of OOC with 3 losses, we will be in great shape.

It depends who those 3 losses are to, but generally agree. We can not screw around and lose to a Stetson or Longwood though and we have to get at least one signature Top 50 win.
