Box outs, or lack thereof.

Not sure if I'm making a fair observation or not. Would welcome differing views. We were so dominated on the offensive glass, that normally, there's no way, we could win. I saw no attempt to ever box out ASU rebounders. With a 3 second rule in place, it's confounding how many times, ASU had a rebounder in superior rebounding position. And this is not new, has been a problem all year. I don't see a downside to boxing out potential rebounders, so why don't we do it? Or is it that we try, but our efforts are so feeble, they don't show up on tv. Other teams can certainly box out our guys.

But it was nice to see how the game ended. Terry made two defensive rebounds, was fouled each time, and made all 4 free throws, to ice the game for UR.

TB, I agree with your assessment. i was yelling at the tv for a box out for most of the second half. I have to believe we are just poor at it. I seriously doubt Mooney doesn't believe defensive rebounding is important. I just think its a matter of determination. When we focus on it we can do it, but when we bring the double team on a drive or post up in the paint our smaller guards and forwards are in terrible position on the weak side and get dominated on the glass. If we give up that many offensive rebounds to Miami I don't think we win tomorrow night.

I alluded to this in another thread. Thank goodness the lack of boxing out & rebounding didn't burn us last night. I had visions of the game we lost at GW earlier this year when GW had (I believe) 19 offensive rebounds. I think rebounding is just good fundamental basketball. Maybe I'm just too old school.

Great game, great win, bring on Miami! I'm expecting another physical game.

5'6" Kendall Anthony had to end up boxing out #11 Goodman near the end so TA could get a rebound. I truley believe after 10 years of the same that it is not taught or emphasized. We just do not box out.

Kits kind of infuriating. I wonder if we do so much switching that we end up outside instead of inside.

We also often are not on the weak side of shots and lose a lot of rebounds that way.

I wouldn't read too much into the disparity in this game, AZsAu is apparently a very strong rebounding team. But it is clearly an issue, whatever the reason.

We have moved up from 347 to 340 out of 351 in total rebounding.
