Blake Francis injury status

1 - I agree, there is not a shortage, but can you get your first choice. And will you pay them what they want. The new coach will want close to Mooney money, or more depending on who they are. Look at Rhoades at VCU - he came in and right away was given 1.2 million because he knew that is what Wade and Shaka were getting before him. Now he is up to 1.5 million.
2 - 18 was just the number I had in the beginning of the year. In theory - I think this team could and should win 20-21 games. That might only good enough for the NIT, depending on where we land in the A10 standings and how we do in the A10 tourney. Point being - no way Mooney gets fired this year, no matter what. Team would need a losing record for this to even be considered and that is not happening.
3 - Your right, with that improvement his name should be popping up. Cue the billboard please - maybe those people who did the billboard can market Mooney to other schools.

There will never be a shortage of excellent basketball coaches who would absolutely love to have this job. Ever.

We can agree to disagree, but if the coaches were so good, they would be coaching in the NBA or a P5 school, not at Richmond.

Disagree, we pay coaches very well and they reside in a marketplace that is not cutthroat like any NBA job and probably 95% of P5 jobs. Sometimes the grass in not always greener.

So all good coaches go straight to P5 and NBA and never land at a Richmond level? I normally agree with you ur2k but that is a strange theory.

I don't think anyone would try to say all good coaches go straight to power schools or the NBA. But I think it's fair to disagree with the statement that there's no shortage of excellent coaches out there who would love to have this job. How would you know if they are excellent or not? I think the point is, most of the sure things right now all ready to go P6, if not there already. Sure, there are some mid-major coaches out there who would like to take a step up to Richmond, but I don't know if I would go so far as to say never will be a shortage of them.

Bob black just said he’s out indefinitely - fractured sternum.

Meanwhile ESPN is tweeting about Francis ...I think...

Worse case is if ribs separated from the sternum. If so he's done. If it's just a hairline and doesn't need a plate 6 weeks maybe? In any case it's very painful. Hurts to breathe.

Heartbreaking for Blake and the rest of us. That’s 18 points we can’t replace

Does anyone know if Blake has any additional injuries to his heart or lungs because of the broken sternum (breastbone)?

So philly bob black said it was broken? Silver lining is if it came from Bob it might not be completely accurate.

The two main beat guys - JOC & Noah - did not report broken yet. And their info was recent per spider bball. If bob is getting different & more info than them it’s a problem and I’d be upset if I were them esp JOC.

But the way we handle media & radio etc under Hardt has been disappointing. Really not trying to nitpick it’s just things I’ve noticed in last couple years.

The main news is Blake. I hope he heals quickly and maybe it’s not quite as bad as Bob said.

He said exactly that on Greg Burton's show a bit after 5:30 today, also said that the trainer said that it was an injury that is often seen in car accidents.

Thx. Not disputing he said it. But as we all know he’s given out wrong info before such as the schedule. Mainly just strange they wouldn’t give that same info to our beat reporters if he’s giving that kind of detail publicly on radio. Sometimes they use Hipaa not to give out info this early in process. Clearly not w Bob.

Athletes recover more quickly. Wishful thinking probably but never know.

Worst part is now when we are under .500 in conference there will be yet another excuse to keep Mooney.

No, the worst part is a guy that sat out last year transferring who worked his butt off all off season to get ready to play at a high level this year suffered a very painful injury, and cannot be on the court playing the game he loves right now. This really stinks for him.

Hope Blake can come back as soon as possible. Dude is a warrior out there and this team is gonna miss him badly for however long he is out.

I suspect the preliminary diagnosis is some sort of hairline fracture, but deferring any specific announcement until the specialist confirms. Noah hears that and reports both sides of possibilities while Bob reports the not-so-final diagnosis. I think info they got is probably very similar, just their reporting is slightly different.

I was just talking to a colleague who had a bruised one in a car wreck. He said it is very painful for an extended period of time and very limiting on any physical activity because even breathing heavy hurts. He said his bruised one took 8 or so weeks to stop hurting like hell and another 3-4 til he really was able to return to any sort of physical activity. Of course, he's 49 years old, not 20 and won't have access to the type of rehab stuff Blake might (although it sounds to me like it just plain old rest thats the key thing).

So it sounds like best case is we get Blake back very late and probably somewhat out of shape. I think that means even if we get him back he's a 6th man on return, playing lesser minutes and perhaps very limited minutes to give JG a few minutes here and there and maybe provide some instant offense when needed. But he's looking at a decent period of no real physical activity which will hurt him even on his return.

No. I think the rule is you cannot play in more than 30% of your team's games to be eligible for a medical redshirt.
