I saw Blake Francis get injured in the game. It appeared to be a broken collar bone. In the post game, Coach said it was his upper chest area. When it happened it looked like he was in a great deal of pain. The guy sacrifices his body so much.

From my vantage point, right behind him in the stands, it looked really bad. All we can say is get well. You are the heart and soul of this team. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

The good news is that it doesn't appear to be a broken collarbone - that would have sidelined him for about 6 weeks (maybe more). I would assume he will be in pain and somewhat limited against Davidson if he plays.
The only good that might come out of this is maybe this is a spark plug for Gilyard to return to the old Gilyard. Last 2 games he has been pretty quiet, but we will need him to create offense for himself and others against Davidson. I think at times this year it has been difficult for him to decide when to be aggressive and when to be a distributor and let Francis get going - but with Francis sidelined or not 100%, we can just put him in full attack mode.

Hearing its a bone bruise....likely out vs davidson but maybe coach will expand at the show tonight.

Those hurt for sure. Took weeks for mine to heal when I was 19. You can function but it hurts like hell.

Well hopefully it is not too bad, but agree with K - I have heard and seen of a lot of athletes quite limited or not available for long periods with a bone bruise. Like everything (a pull/tear) it will come down to the extent of the bruise I am sure.
Good news is if he does have to miss some time, Mooney is super good at adapting, and adapting quickly. wink wink.

Hopefully we are ready with some Woj bombs against Davidson.

Appeared that Collins dove onto the floor into Blake. Don't understand why the refs are reluctant to call fouls in loose ball situations?
Agreed. It's one of the reasons why I hate when they just let things play out for four or five seconds in those kinds of scrums. Not to mention that the guy for SLU who got the ball traveled by rolling over, but of course no call.

Yes was "puzzled" that after the play stoppage SLU was awarded the ball out of bounds. Makes one wonder Just What Was Being Reviewed on the monitor. These "reviews" appear as "going through the motions"..................

No, that is a real quote from Jabba on his ESPN Richmond interview following his trip with the boys to Barclays. As Jabba has stated before, in Iowa they just come and cheer, no matter back to back 20 loss seasons.
Are you saying his quote was about fans, and not coaches or players?

CB, was this a real quote or did you catch me with my sarcasm filter not functioning properly?
The actual quote may have been "The Great Ones Adjust" so pardon my error if that's the case.
But yes, Hardt said it and he was referring to Mooney.

Good to see you, Mo.

Correct. I have heard Hardt say this more than once.

I believe the full quote is "As a meat and potatoes guy I can tell you Bob that programatically the great ones adjust"

I can tell you, adjustments are not Mooney's strong point, and they come slow and basically way too late. I have reached the point where I am cheering for the guy, and hoping Jenkins and crew can just keep grabbing some stellar transfers (Blake, and I believe Crabtree will be as well) and pick up on the normal recruiting with supposedly more admin support and then practice facility. I really don't want to see who Hardt comes up with if he ever has to replace Mooney. I think Mooney can do pretty well if he has really good players. Hoping this team is good enough, but starting to see a trend where we may not be. Go look at that link of that old URI game I posted. Two guards just making dominant plays, and throw in Butler, K Smith and Harp and Geriot - really a team full of strong willed and clutch players. I would like to see Golden and Gilly step it up just a notch and play like that team night in and night out.

Well Nathan Davis at Bucknell is 7-10 this year so I don't even think Jabba could hire a consultant to hire the same guy he hired at his old school.

Moot point because the Spiders are an NCAA team.

Yes, I was all for Nathan Davis, I will say good ol' 97 warned that we need to see what Davis does with a full cycle of his own recruits. Still not ruling him out as he has a very very good track record including D3, but yes this season is a concern for Davis. As you say, moot point.

"The consultants love him."

Mooney doesn't need to make the NCAA this year. If the Spiders win 18+ games - the narrative will be the team improved by nearly 50% with wins over Big Ten, ACC, and SEC teams. We have everyone returning and the future is bright for Spider Basketball.
But this is a good point - the 2nd part of this equation when firing a coach is who else is available? and can you hire them?
Liberty is currently 18-1 and coming off an NCAA bid last year - could see McKay name pop up - problem there is Liberty has the money to pay him if they choose.
Yale is looking good in Ivy League and made NCAA tourney last year - if they make it again this year, I could see coach Jones pop up a lot as well.

With that kind of dramatic improvement, Mooney's name should be popping up!

Big Hat No Cattle Hardt may indeed have that narrative (even tho privately he's said otherwise). The real narrative is how can a very high achieving selective school justify paying the highest priced employee of the university millions year after year only to consistently not reach your goals in 9 straight years. You ask your constintuency to pay 60k a year and gonna play us like that? It really says you don't care about standards, you don't care about achievement, and the stated mission of the school and athletic program is fraudulent when you have a large 9 year sample.

Moot point because this is a NCAA team. NCAA or bust. Go Spiders.

Here's the problem with your scenario:

An 18 win season would mean we go 8-10 in the A10 this year. Nobody cares who is coming back next year if we don't even break .500 in conference this year.

There will never be a shortage of excellent basketball coaches who would absolutely love to have this job. Ever.
